Getting Refund on Sales Tax
I recently moved to Oklahoma, and I've bought a lot of U.S. coins recently. It seems like sometimes I get charged sales tax and sometimes not.. Upon investigating this - Oklahoma has an exemption (710:65-13-95) from US minted "legal tender". I would estimate I've paid quite a bit in taxes specifically on coins I know are legal tender - I suppose it might be some catagorization error of the item on the part of the seller, but is there a way to enter a ticket and request a refund for some of this $?

·9 months agoFood for thought - one might imagine that SALES tax depends on SELLERS location, not buyers. Additionally I doubt Oklahoma state laws apply to states other than Oklahoma.

·9 months agoIf you paid $1 for a $1 coin, then you are correct. If you paid $50 for a $1 coin because it is 'collectable'- then you paid what you were supposed to pay.

·9 months agoIt depends on which category your coins were listed in, as to whether you pay a state tax or not. If they were listed in collectibles, you will pay the tax. As far as any refunds, you will need to contact your state tax authority.
