Fake coin !!!!
I purchased a 1895 S Morgan Silver dollar a little over a year ago. Today I went to have the coin appraised and found out that it was a fake and worthless coin. I did a search for the sales account and they are no longer an ebay seller and have closed there account. Just wondering if I have any course of action or who I should be directing this question to as I have found nothing in the ebay records on how to report this or make a claim. thank for your help.

·1 year agoAbout the only recourse you may have now is if you paid EBay through PayPal!
I purchased a 1916 D Mercury Dime, sent it off to be graded, received it back stating it was a fake! I jumped through all EBay's hoops contacting the seller and waiting, contacting them, etc., in the end I was told they would do NOTHING ( so much for their guarantee which means spit) because the sale was 31 days old! I luckily went through PayPal, sent them proof the coin was fake and they refunded my money!!
Sales of fakes is getting much worse on Ebay! Just today I saw the same Chinese produced fake 1916 D Mercury Dime sell for $ 1800 + on Ebay despite writing the seller telling him he was defrauding the buyer and writing Ebay several times that it was a replica coin! Their response: it didn't violate their policy! I guess as long as EBay get its 15%, they could care less if buyers are defrauded and cheated !

·2 years agoIn the ol’ days of eBay I was ripped off in the low THOUSANDS for counterfeit collectibles which included the cost to have them verified. I’m sure you’ll survive. Caveat emptor…..

·2 years agoYou have 30 days after you receive an item to open an Item Not As Described claim with eBay for a full refund. After that, there is nothing eBay can or will do. And there is nothing to report to them, either, especially in this case since the person no longer even sells on eBay.
PayPal and most major credit cards allow you to make such a claim, as a so-called "chargeback," for a refund of your money for up to 180 days after you receive an item.
A year has passed since you received the coin, and there is no way now to get a refund.
Having said that, though, I will note that credit card companies are sometimes flexible so you could try a chargeback, and the worst that will happen is that you will be told it's too late to do so.
I am sorry this happened to you.

·2 years agoLikely they did this more than once and ebay closed their account for them...

·2 years agoAt this point there isn't much if anything that can be done, too far past MBG or doing a charge back on your credit card. You are not alone.

·2 years agoThere is nothing you can do. eBay only has 30-day window. Most credit card companies give you 180 days. The time for appraisal was upon receipt, not a year later, at this point what exactly are you expecting? My only suggestion is to check with another party, just in case the first appraisal might have some funny business going on. Good luck.
