Does anyone know what this military item is?
Found with a lot of WWII medals. Looks sort of like one of those plates from an old credit card machine that got stamped, but I can't find anything like it (name is blocked out for privacy).

·8 months agoI think the USN stands for United States Navy.

OP8 months agoI am pretty sure it's not the name of a ship. I found the name online actually, his WWI draft registration.

·8 months ago# U.S. Navy Equipment Identification Plate
The image depicts a **metal identification plate** with embossed text, likely from a piece of **U.S. Navy equipment**. The abbreviation **"USN"** stands for **United States Navy**, and **"SN"** likely refers to a **serial number**. The rest of the alphanumeric codes (e.g., `C M 95874 P`, `5722219 1235 2-20 56`) could represent:
- **Serial and part numbers** for tracking and inventory.
- **Date codes** (e.g., `2-20 56` could mean February 20, 1956).
- **Specification or inspection codes** (e.g., "STERILITY 6160" might refer to a cleanliness or readiness standard).
- **B-2** could be a batch or model designation.
Such plates are typically affixed to military hardware, machinery, or components to provide traceability and maintenance information.

OP8 months agoJust another question, though, the part I have whited out is a man's name. Would that be on a equipment plate?

Wikipedia has many articles on US Navy ships. If it is and you find the article, a portion of the information could make your listing more appealing to the right buyer.
