·3 years agoYes, that is Gotheborg's reading of the mark, too. In Pinyin = Yan Wan Chen Chang. Like the example of "Royal Satsuma," it is Chinese but in a Japanese style.

·3 years agoDumb question, but is this Chinese for the Japanese market? With those panels and chrysanthemums, it makes me think Japan.

·3 years agoI have no idea. The Chinese did (and do) a fair amount of Japanese-style / knockoff / cali-it-what-you-will pottery. "Royal Satsuma," for example, is Chinese. At the same time, of course, much of the borrowing was in the opposite direction, in the long ago and historically.
I don't know much about any of it. I'm just good at quickly finding marks on various websites, where others seem to find it hard, or tedious, to do. I attribute my ability to it to years of bird-watching.
