Who still fills holes in albums?
i do...
the half cent on the top left doesn't have any coins because it still has it's original cellophane wrapper... the Littleton buff album is just for acid-dates... the Trade Dollar doesn't have any... the Crowns of the World on the lower right has just silver rounds, ASEs, and silver Maples... the Kennedy Whitman on the top right just has silver issues, including silver proofs from 92-01...
a couple are complete... a Jeff and a Franklin...
just for fun...

·9 months agoHola Mr Smedley...! Whilst grocery shopping yesterday all of a sudden Heron remembered owning two albums. Heron purchased a batch of coins whilst 'working' a coin expo. Heron had emptied the two albums. Had them sitting on end of rented table.
These 2 albums were dark brown with light tan color inside. There was no lettering in either album. Nada. Heron was of the opinion that these two albums were possibly some sort of 'generic' method of collecting coins. One album had some ordinary Morgen Dollars. The 2nd album had a batch of Walking LIb Half Dollars innit. Later in the afternoon, at same coin expo, a man saw the albums and asked what price. Heron explained that he had purchased the two albums in the early hour of coin expo and had not placed a price on the 2 empty albums. The fellow offered $4 each. Heron quickly said OK. The year was 1996. Heron cannot remember exactly where the coin expo was located, but believes it was Stocktown, CA.
Not that it matters a-tall.

·9 months agoDo you fill the slots with any coin you find that isn't road-kill, or spend the money on the nicest coin you can afford? Obviously almost all the coins are not in circulation today, but occasionally you might get a wheat cent.

OP9 months agoi don't generally go looking, but if a coin comes around that can fill a hole, the hole gets filled... recently i ran across a listing for a folder of IHCs, there was an 1871 in it... the BIN was less than the value of the 1871 so i had to get it... i didn't have an 1871 in any of my IHC albums, plus i filled some holes with other coins from the folder...
i busted a number of slabs that i had dupes of to fill some holes as well...

·9 months agoI only have one Dansco album for my ASEs. One of the early 90's has developed a very nice uniform blueish-purple patina around the rim on the front side. I have it stored in a safe.
I wish I could build a separate room onto my home so I could display my collection of coins, tokens and currency and enjoy them whenever. Hiding them for security reasons seems to defeat the purpose of collecting them.

·9 months agoKeep the coins in there for a few decades for that nice "porthole" toning effect.
