Packaging and shipping question for sending individual coins through USPS
I'm not a coin dealer or a business, just an old amateur coin collecter. I couldn't get a decent answer from my post office, and searching the USPS website is a little overwhelming to find an exact answer.
I'm looking for opinions on the best packaging type, least expensive, and trackable choice for shipping individual coins in 2" x 2" holders through USPS.
I'm not sure whether to use 4" x 8" or 6" x 10" Kraft bubble mailers, or 6" x 8" or 6" x 10" flat mailers. I'm also not sure whether to choose Priority Mail or Ground Advantage.
I appreciate any help, thank you!

·9 months agoThe Alt Heron mailed many coins since 1970. Heron had good luck with the padded envelopes. The coins were protected by a batch of small bubble inside envelope.
This method might be a few cents more than other methods but it sure was a good method for the Alt Heron.

·9 months agoESE can't be used as coins aren't machinable. They will cause the envelope to arrive postage due, or worse yet, the machine will tear the envelope open and the coin will be lost.
You have two options. (1) Ground advantage for about $4 with tracking, or (2) Non-machinable first class parcel, which will be about $2 but can't be tracked and you need to use physical stamps (or pay at the counter).

·9 months agoESE CAN be used with coins, but a plain white envelope is not recommended... use a kraft-type mailer...

·9 months agounless they are low value, bubble mailer and Ground Advantage...
at 10.86, expect 1 and 2 stars for shipping cost... that's basically double actual postage...

If you are expecting more accurate tracking, your best option is USPS Ground Advantage, using a stiff flat mailer-type envelope (rather than a paper envelope).
While the eBay Standard Envelope (ESE) does provide limited tracking, it is not very accurate, and is often non-existent -- whereas the tracking service associated with USPS Ground Advantage (while more expensive) is far more reliable, and more easily tracked by USPS.
Opinions seem to differ on the delivery rate for ESEs with coins; but I would vote on the safe side, with USPS Ground Advantage.

·9 months agoIf you use bubble mailers you may not use Ebay Standard Envelope Shipping. And will have to use Ground Advantage which costs more but has more reliable tracking.
There are different insurance limits as well.
You can read about ESE here.
