·2 years agoHola John999; el Heron has been a 'numismatics' collector and sometimes dealer at coin expos, and sometimes seller on eBay. el Heron began collecting interesting world coins in April 1946. Heron became a dealer of paper money in 1970. Selling interesting Latin American notes world-wide.
In Heron's opinion, the most difficult part of numismatics would be the grading of coins, tokens, & paper money. There are many numismatics people that can grade numismatic items.
Also, there are multi-millions of people that have NO idea what grading is all about. These folks can still collect items they want. Heron would not consider these folks to be 'numismaticos'.
In addition, there is the added problem of folks buying items that are
not graded. Sometimes a 'collector' can over-pay for items because they do NOT know how to grade coins or paper money or tokens.
Learning how to grade numismatic items takes time. Sometimes quite a bit of time. However, if folks know how to grade numismatics they will most likely not get cheated out of Dollars, or Euros, or Pesos de Mexico, or Pesos de Argentina, etc.
Yes, when we collectors learn how to grade coins and paper money, we can truly call ourselves numismaticos. This summary is an opinion.

·2 years agoNumismatics: the study or collection of coins, tokens, and paper money and sometimes related objects such as medals.
Newsmatics: a yellow or red box about 4-feet high, usually along sidewalls, or in front of buildings, that if you put enough coins in a slot, a door will open and you can grab a copy of the Daily Times-Gazette-Tribune.

·2 years agoHola Koindog, when el Heron was in the USCG as a Morse Code radio operator, he would mostly listen to news via stations transmitting in Morse. For practice. Sometimes Heron would buy a newspaper from one of the vending 'machines' per your description. When Heron was serving aboard the USCG Cutter stationed at St. George Staten Island he would travel to Manhattan Island via the large ferry boats. Heron would pick up a newspaper for free because the ferry boat crew were slow to clean the passenger compartment. Free magazines also. The cost to ride the ferry boat in 1957 was 5 Cents. Yes, 1 nitchel per ride for folks in uniform. Such a deal ey\
