I, Could only write how I, started I, think this could help with other's reply
That way NEW BEES AS IT WAS MESSAGED
To me, could get different types or ways I, started with someone asking me, if I, wanted to take A ride to the coin shop
16 years, ago I, took A ride their A mile away
The store was really cool Seeing all these different types of coins
I, might have bought A silver EAGLE then prices were around $12 to $15
Real no Chinese was heard of until EBAY
I, liked PENNIES UNCIRCULATED
Quarters UNCIRCULATED
I, wasen going to buy them BECAUSE I, had no books no knowledge no supplies
If you're going to get into coins I'd, recommend getting A LOOP 1st because when you see A coin threw A loop the details are clear That's it with supplies
Then it's the coins you like the most
The details of the LINCOLN CENT IMPRESSED me, Quarters were on state Quarters going to AMERICA THE BEAUTIFUL
From their all I, needed was rolls for free plus the main ingredient KNOWLEDGE
That's ware books come in articles & magazines
Once you start talking about coins the way they look with A loop Show some people you're loop that you should always carry
Then someone will give you A book A magazine etc
If you hide or never say I'm, trying A NEW BEE HOBBY CALLED COIN COLLECTING
Someone is always listening WITH advice
My, way was sitting in the kitchen ware the best LIGHTING WAS
Then I, started to GOOGLE KNOWLEDGE
While opening roll after roll I, got some coin tubes
Then I , sorted all the nice AU to BU PENNIES back into wrappers what are free from any BANK just ask you will receive
Going through rolls then was FUN 5 WHEATS PER ROLL nothing special
Now A DAYS, that's changing some people want to start with MORGAN SILVER DOLLARS not A bad way to start
Just have more Is kryptonite in your pocket
Some like HALFS
ITS A choice you have to make
I, liked the pennies because of the ERRORS the price & the COIN STORE
THATS THE WAY I, CHOOSE
1 Thing about coin collecting is you'll never stop learning THE mint has nice collections for A NEW BEE
I, DIDEN USE EBAY AS A TEACHER ONLY FOR THE HARD TO GET COINS THAT COIN STORES DIDEN HAVE
ITS WHAT YOU LIKE ITS frustrating AGERVATION ITS just like A normal DAY,

·1 year agoHola Moderncoins...! Some potential coin collector folks should study and research this hobby prior to spending mucho $$$. There are so many ways to collect, it is a good idea to research. During the past 60 years, mas o menos, Heron has talked with many coin collectors (and paper money collectors also). Some collectors zero in with the Birthyear collecting. Some collectors like to find coins or tokens or paper money that were issued during a specific time of war. Heron always liked finding coins or tokens of the 30 years war (1618-1648). This war was a nasty time for folks living in central Europa. However, wars stimulate the production of coins.
Many collectors will pick a specific denomination to collect. Heron knew a young fellow that collected only 2 Pesos notes from Latin America. He had quite a collection at age 22. Some collectors like Morgan Dollars. A great design and some interesting items to collect. Heron knew a fellow that collected only coins with CC mint mark. Some collectors will search for coins issued by a specific ruler. Such as the coins issued by King Geo III of Gran Britannia. Or coins issued by Napoleon I. (Some folks are not aware that there was a Napoleon III). And some collectors like to collect coins of a specific metal content. Heron collected Copper coins for many years. So, after a person has researched the coin collecting hobby, that person could very well decide on a specific segment of coins and tokens.
And not forgetting collecting coins and tokens issued by or for Islands of the world.

OP1 year agoHi ELHERON I, was looking at some philadelphia tokens MAN are they expensive I, TOUGHT they were GOLD only brass IT seems that every place back in the day, made tokens as advertisements THE only ones I, collected were the casino tokens because they are silver They want over $300 plus for 1 Theirs this guy MOUNTAIN MIKE who sells tokens graded bids

·1 year agoHola Moderncoins...! Yess..! Some tokens are really expensive. Some tokens were issued in small numbers. Then there were the usual 'losses' that reduce the number available for collectors. Heron has seen some tokens priced at $1,000 or more. Usually, the tokens called 'transit tokens' are low in price. Then there are the souvenir tokens. Most souvenir tokens are reasonably priced. Then there are some 'good for' tokens. Especially issued by saloons. And now some 'good for' tokens are made of plastic. Some casino tokens will be relatively low in price and some are high in price. A wide range of pricing for casino tokens. Heron has noticed that the 'lumber tokens' usually range from $30 to $60. Probably low mintage numbers to start. So, in the tokens area there are tokens priced at different levels.
The search continues and hopefully el Heron will be able to report another batch of Island tokens soon.

·1 year agoHola Moderncoins...! the Alt Heron was going to use a specific coin listing to illustrate one of the possible areas of coin collecting. However, there are NO Reichenau coins currently listed. Heron checked eBay and one other place . Did find an 1836 Bazen of Graubunden. This could be a possible substitute item. So, we must wait perhaps another few years for a Bazen of Reichenau to be listed. This points out a possible important part of coin collecting. When a coin is listed but not quite the grade desired, buy a lesser grade coin because a better one might never be found.

·1 year agoHola moderncoins...! Heron can think of several methods learning about coin collecting.. One of the methods would be for an interested person to visit a 'coin expo'. Walking the floor and viewing as many different coins as possible. Another method is to find a local coin club and visit a 'meeting'. Ask questions regarding collecting coins. These folks will be willing to answer questions. Next would be 'buy the book' before spending a bunch of Dollars. Study catalogs. Also use eBay as a source of informacion.

·1 year agoI have dabbled in coin collecting many years ago and think the local coin shop was my inspiration as well @moderncoins999 . Not only was I able to gain some good product knowledge but being able to get supplies and the ability to see examples of coins was fun. Back in the day, the Red Book was option #1 for reference and i am not sure if it still is what others use or not. Online was not an option and these days, I would not know where to start with all of the online options. Like stamps, there is something for everybody that might want to start collecting.
It is nice to see a post that gives the buyer/collector some insight in how to collect and where to gain knowledge.

·1 year agoI was suggesting (prodding) you to post something that may help collectors who may need guidance. I understand how to purchase and figured more experienced sellers would help add to the thread. Sometimes it is nice to have a thread dedicated with info to help buyers/collectors rather than just for sellers. It would be nice if others contributed to the thread in a positive way, but I can't control that.
