·1 year agoHola Moderncoins...! YES, it is now being reported to be a 5.2 Richter scale earthquake. However, the quake occurred about 30 miles, mas o menos, NorthEast of San Diego city. (our gracious host is located in San Jose, Calif. Not to be confuzzed with San Jose, Costa Rica. Heron spent a full day of study at the University of Costa Rica, San Jose C.R. Mostly at the book store. It is the place where Heron purchased a large batch of booklets printed in Spanish. Subject: Costa Rican Coffee plantation tokens. The booklets were on sale for 1 Dollar U.S.
It was an interesting day and the university students were very polite and helpful with directions and some translating)

·1 year agoRe: books and bidding...
There is a coin reference book I have been trying to acquire for the last thirty years. Usually sells in the $50-$75 range, but every time I bid on a copy someone snipes me. A couple months ago one came up on a non-Ebay auction site. Decided I am not fooling around any more. About thirty seconds before closing bidding was around $50. I placed a top bid of $150, putting the bid level at $60. AND WAS INSTANTLY OUTBID!!!! $160!!!!
Eventually everyone who is seeking this book will die off, and I can get my copy.

·1 year agoHola AGA...! Interesting story re coin book. The Alt Heron prefers 'bin' plus 'make an offer'. This has been working ok for the Alt Geezer Heron.

·1 year agoI agree with @koindog that it sounds like you were sniped. If you buy on auctions, there are many inexpensive sniping tools available to bid on items (without saving to watchlist) within the last couple of seconds. Be the last bidder not the first few that bid.

marnotom!
·1 year agoEven better, be aware of how proxy bidding works, be the highest bidder and it doesn't matter when you place your bid. (Granted, bidding too early can set off a bidding war.)

What is an "oups"?
What does "the big one A 10" mean ?
elheron-grande
·1 year agoHola Koindog...! It could be possible that the OP is referring to a possible earthquake at a 10 on the Richter Scale. The OP used the word 'jolt' in his short essay.
