Coin Help - Error Coin 1959 FDR Dime - Uniface or Single Planchet?
Hello there, I was going through a bag of old 1950's dimes and ran across this 1959 FDR that appears to be normal on the obverse but is completely blank on the reverse. I was curious if anyone has seen anything similar on a silver dime of this era. I am not seeing any similar looking examples online for this type of dime. Curious if it is worth looking into further or if it is just a common/explainable occurrence. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

·1 year agoYess...! Perhaps a student in metal shop had some fun using the electric operated grinding wheel?. Or maybe a 'garage' grinding wheel? Cannot think of any reason to grind totally. Just a 'fun' project involving the grinding wheel. Seems to be a fairly good grinding job...!

OP1 year agoI guess it would be fun, and they are probably laughing from wherever they are. I am glad I thought to ask before assuming it was something rare 🙂

·1 year agoit's possible someone had the intention to make a 2 headed dime and lost interest or got sidetracked...

·1 year agoHola Sr. Smedley...! After thinking about your suggestion of a double head coin, Heron believes that suggestion is probably the best one.
Heron believes it is not likely some one would grind down a coin just for 'fun'. And the grinding appears to be a really good job. Plus, with the modern glues available (such as epoxy glue) the 1959 Dime could be half of a double heads coin.

·1 year agoHola Citron...! Heron could relay a whole bunch of experiments conducted in Metal Shop. When Heron was in H.S. Numerous things happened to various coins. Mostly Dimes and smaller denominations.
Actually it was the coin experiments that made Metal Shop almost tolerable...!

By the direction of the tool marks, looks more like 5-10 seconds on a belt sander.
