Chinese Fakes!
It seems like every other add on eBay now is for Chinese manufactured fake coins, to the point one almost cannot view this forum as a safe place to buy authentic raw coins any longer. Does anyone know of a better on line venue for coin buying and selling?

·1 year agoMy rule of thumb for buying raw coins on eBay is from a seller that includes any defects in the listing, such as old cleaning, rim bump, small scratch on reverse, etc., and from sellers that have a 100% feedback and has sold 10,000 items, otherwise, I buy raw at a coin show where I can see in hand and with a loupe. I don't care about coins less than $10. I'm sure there are other decent sellers, you just have to find them.
Did you know that, if caught, a person counterfeiting Chinese coins will get a heavy fine and prison time, up to life. In extreme cases the death penalty. Counterfeiting American coins is deemed entrepreneurship.

OP1 year agoOne thing I learned long ago is that it does no good to complain to eBay about these Chinese fakes being resold on eBay by other sellers as authentic willingly perpetrating fraud making hundreds of dollars! Just last week I saw an add for a 1916 d Mercury Dime copy, I wrote the seller, and reported it to eBay! The absolutely useless fake sold for over $1800. Neither the seller, who undoubtedly knew what he was doing, or eBay, which I contacted 3 times, did anything to prevent the fraud!
The best one can do is only deal with sellers you have experience with, who you know are honest and reputable.

·1 year agoIf you are looking for fake coins from overseas, you can certainly find many examples of those.
If you are looking for genuine coins sold by legitimate sellers with a proven track record of delivering what was sold as reflected in feedback, you can find those as well.
Pick your sellers carefully.
