A WARNING about Counterfeit fake copied coins
There has always been those who will try to con the Innocent or uneducated with fake coins..even the Roman Emperors made 'official' counterfeits by having cheap metal plated with silver..but there seems to be more now on eBay than I can remember the last year or two...compounding the problem now is eBay is not proactive in controlling the scammers , to wit I have reported dozens of fakes, most of them blatant, to feeBay over the last 6 months and they have yet to remove a single one nor cause the seller to comply with their own policys. They have made it now difficult to report a Seller I'm sure you noticed too. And over the last 10 of my reports, some by phone, they begun to ignore me altogether because I have begun pointing out they violate their own polices.
Now to help anyone who may be tempted to bid on such fakes remember these caveats...rare coins are rare and expensive because they're seldom for sale ; if the asking price is very low compared to its rarity its a fake; do not bid or buy any coin worth more a $100 if it has no accepted certification; be shy of a seller that shows few pics, blurry pics, or does not show real life color pics ; and if the Seller has a (0) feedback or is shipping from China don't even think about it ; and You can reach me as kingofcoins to get help with fakes.

·1 year agoAnother note, the surge of fakes sold here and elsewhere online (I'm looking at you, Temu!), are going to eventually percolate down to the flea markets, yard sales, etc, and will plague (beginner) collectors for decades.

·1 year agoHola King of coins...! The Alt Heron is going to make several comments here regarding the selling and buying of counterfeit coins. A fool and his money are soon parted.
There is a goofy born every minute. People should practice Caveat Emptor. We have discussed this situation many times. There are many different opinions on this subject.
Heron believes in the education of folks that want to be coin collectors. And a lot of study is needed. Yes, there are sellers of counterfeit coins. There will most likely forever be some sharpies selling counterfeit coins. Heron believes it is up to the buyer to not get cheated on a buy-sell deal. Either learn how to detect counterfeit coins or buy low priced items. Usually counterfeiters want a high profit item to counterfeit. So, the first thing a new collector should do is RESEARCH. Learn as much as possible about counterfeits, and moving metal, and plating, etc. A new collector can also use this coin, token, & paper money chatting board for helpful information regarding counterfeits. There are some very knowledgeable folks waiting to help on serious enquiries.

koindog
·1 year agoMy guess is Alternate........as in serious and the real "me".
elheron-grande
·1 year agoHola Koindog...! Heron should have added info re Alt & Alternate. Alternate is a word, most likely a more modern word than Alt. Regards.
elheron-grande
·1 year agoHola Mr. Smedley... The word Alt means old old. Or in other words, Very Old. Alt is a very old Germanian word. And some days now, Heron really feels Alt.

·1 year agoHave you been taking your Geritol, elheron ?
elheron-grande
·1 year agoHola Koindog...! Yes, the Alt Heron has several substitutes for Geritol. Heron also has an anecdote re Geritol. When elHeron was stationed aboard the good ship Spencer, he kept a bottle of Geritol in his locker. It was a great hangover antidote, and 25% alcohol. However, one day we were having Captain's Inspection of the ship and crew. The terlit room was closed for maintenance. Heron was off radio watch at 0800 and needed a shave. So, Heron was standing next to his locker and splashing Geritol on his face. And then shaving his face. An officer came walking past and asked about the liquid stuff Heron was using to shave. Heron showed him the bottle of Geritol and said Sir, this liquid stuff is a great substitute for shaving cream. Heron never admitted that he actually drank the stuff...!

·1 year agoHow dose anyone research fake COINS
WITH PICTURES OR BOOKS
THE ONLY WAY TO LEARN ABOUT FAKE
IS do the leg work, or HAVE THE KNOWLEDGE
When the 2023 extra V PENNY ERROR was listed on EBAY 1ST it was purchased by many A legitimate ERROR that took almost A year, for A GRADEING COMPANY to accept
The write up was that A mint worker, done this with no proof
People bought the fake NEWS, same as A fake coin
No ONE checked MINT PRODUCTION
That was the answer
A VERITY of to many I, wrote it then
No one listened
Same as the NEW 1909 s vdb many fakes

·1 year agoThere are SO many fake 1914-D coins listed...Ebay needs to do something or it will kill the coin market on the site. Right now, I'd be very scared to buy and of the Key dates, or semi key dates, on ebay. Seems like it's getting worse and worse.
