1986 quarter error ?
This coin has many issues I don't see any scraps like it was damaged on the street or anything like that it looks all issues came from the mint any help would be appreciated ty in advance.

Some charities send out envelopes with pennies, nickels, or quarters inside. They hope you feel bad and send them money. When receiving these envelopes some people put them in their shredder to shred their name, address, or other personal information without ever opening the envelope. Maybe that is what happened to this one.
I wouldn't recommend using this in a vending machine. It might get stuck or break the machine and you'll be out more than 25 cents.
I collected coins for decades and never had the desire to buy a mint error coin. Seems silly to buy something with a mistake in it. Just because something is rare doesn't mean it is worth a lot. I am just one collector though and many other collectors do collect errors and pay a lot for them. In my opinion this is not a mint error. It just looks like an old worn damaged quarter.
Ultimately an item is only worth what somebody will pay for it. If somebody is willing to give you more than 25 cents that is their choice. I've seen many items that I thought would not sell end up selling for a lot. I've also seen items that I thought would sell for a lot go through with an ending bid of $1 or no bid at all. Not recommended for all, but I still like to list some items for a $1 at auction and see what happens. Just be honest and don't represent something to be something other than what it is. If you don't know you don't know.

·6 months agoHola wpt05...! The Alt Heron once listed a Durango, Mexico note that was torn apart at the center 'fold'. Heron did not try to 'fix' the note. Heron remembers the bidding went to about $12 (This was in the year 1999 or 2000). Apparently, the note was a very scarce note. The winning bidder was happy and that was a good thing.
Prior to eBay being invented, year 1959, Heron was in the USCG and repaired a TV set for a USCG member and his wife. The TV needed the 'tube' for horizontal 'hold'.
Heron used the tools that were stored in the garage of the USCG members rental house. Whilst searching through the tool box el Heron 'found' a USA 2 Cent piece.
It was in almost 'good' grade. Coin had a large 'bad' spot on Obverse. The USCG member gave that coin to Heron. In 1999, Heron listed that coin on eBay. Heron stated in the listing that the coin was in very poor condition.
Heron does not know why that coin sold at auction for $6 U.S. It is still a mystery for this Alt Heron.

·6 months agoi would imagine someone needed a type coin and didn't want to/couldn't afford to spend much... as i recall, $6 for an average circ 2 cent coin at that time was a decent price... in the last couple of years i've seen 2 cent slugs sell in excess of $20...

·6 months agoHola Mr. Smedley...! Thank you for the information re 2 Cent coin. Something Heron did not consider at the time. Someone perhaps needing a coin to 'fill a spot' in a coin folder. Plus the fact that Heron is not a specialist on USA coins. Heron appreciates the assistance. Never too late to learn about coins. Regards.

OP6 months agoNo need to be condescending this is what the community is for to ask for help. I use a loupe and and it's not for sale if I'm not sure I asked more better informed folks to help. I will not except abuse from anyone no one asked where do I find out to learn more. Keep your commandments to your self if you can't simply look at the coin and say no or yes. All the extra thoughts better left in your little brain. Use your social skills if you have any again I asked for opinions on a coin I did not ask what to read to learn more. Wow smh .I actually feel bad for you.

OP6 months agoI sell everything but again I don't need to be a pro this is why there are pictures to show what I'm seeing if I'm wrong it's fine I don't mind being wrong but folks don't have to buy it. But it be nice if someone or the company or the community disagrees with something I have up then message me or put a complaint in. But to attack someone for asking a question that's not cool. This quarter is in a change bucket because a few folks said it's post damage and I'm no pro nor will I be one and no because family and work I cannot sit in parents home or not go to work and hope some one buys my coin or anything else again I give all pictures and then any damage or issues of what I am selling and again if I'm wrong then just like someone did before message me and say that's not right I'll be more than happy to look up further details. None of my feedback says stay away from my stuff.

OP7 months agoThank you I'm not sure on this type of damage just wanted to make sure so a regular beat up quarter lol it will not be for sale I don't like if it happens to me for sure would not try that I believe in karma.

·6 months agoThat is A error quarter for sure IVE, seen it on Littleton coin errors DONT listen to the replys on hear about your coin They criticize people know it all yet couldn't answer simple questions Because they don't know about error coins/ or others JUST coins you'll never use or buy FOREIGN junk that coin stores sell for 10 cents they waste $ on shipping & ebay

·6 months agoHola Moderncoins...! the Alt Heron searches for those 10Cent foreign coins. Have not found any on eBay. Right now, on eBay, there are some Copper One Penny coins of Bermuda dated 1793. Price range is $199 to $2,200 Dollars U.S.

If I, learned about foreigner coins I'd, have searched the buckets at the coin store for early copper ones as for the quarter pictures on this post IT IS A RIM ERROR except its only worth A quarter Not even worth the 5 cent flip to hold

you never know what somebody will bid on...
i once listed a group of strangely colored pocket change... nobody bid...

·6 months agoHola Mr. Smedley...! Your post reminds el Heron of the many small coins (Cent pieces, Nickels, and Dimes) that the Metal Shop students would heat using the shop 'forge'. Many different colors could be created. Heron liked to watch the .900 fine Dimes turn light green and light yellow when 'cooked' at a high temperature.

OP7 months agoI will agree from 1986 yup. But the damage is it from the mint only because I don't see any scraps like it was dragged or ran over. I just don't want to sell something wrong.
