Seller asked to move transaction off ebay and cancelled it when i refused
Summary: cocomoss shared their experience of purchasing a handbag from a seller on eBay, who then requested to move the transaction off the platform due to high fees. When cocomoss refused, the seller canceled the transaction, citing issues with generating a shipping label and later stating the reason as 'out of stock/damaged.' Responses from other participants suggested reporting the seller and noted various concerns, including potential fee evasion by the seller. cocomoss expressed frustration over the lack of truthful communication and resolution.
I purchased a $1500 handbag from a seller and after I paid, they asked me to move off ebay because the fees were too high. They wanted to use pp instead. I told them no and that I would prefer to complete the transaction on ebay. They then messaged me that they are having a problem generating a shipping label and that they want to cancel the transaction and redo it. I wrote to them that they could easily use a shipping service of their preference without going through eBay shipping, as long as they uploaded tracking info to ebay. They cancelled the transaction anyway. Was it a scam?

They stated on the order page that the reason was 'out of stock/damaged'. They were not truthful about wanting to 'redo' the transaction because they have not followed through with it and have stopped communicating.

·5 days ago@cocomoss In choosing the OOS/damaged option, they were honest in that the reason does ding their account and ebay can be very unforgiving when it comes to that reason.
They wouldn't have been able to choose the "off ebay" option for the reason for cancelling as that's not one of the available choices.

·6 days agoI am sure they were truthful that they wanted to move transaction off eBay because the fees were too high. But even though they may have been truthful, they most most assuredly would have been scamming eBay out of their fees.

Go to your orders page, find the canceled order and report the seller with the reason you've stated here.
What reason did they use when they canceled? If they used "buyer requested," you can also report that.
Since you paid for the item before they canceled, you are allowed to leave factual and non-emotional feedback, along the lines of, "After I purchased and paid for the item, the seller wanted to take the transaction off ebay. When I declined, they canceled my order."
Based on the information you've outlined, it's impossible to know whether the seller is a scammer, ignorant of ebay policy, selling fakes and didn't realize that the bag would be authenticated or one of any number of other reasons.
But you were smart not to take the transaction off-site.
