You can lead a horse to water...READ THE MONEY BACK GUARANTEE...
This will get buried soon enough but sometimes after reading all the whining from other buyers about getting ripped off I just want to shout "READ THE MONEY BACK GUARANTEE".
If just one clueless buyer reads this-->read the Money Back Guarantee. With a very few (rare) exceptions you don't need to talk to customer service (human being). It's all automated, read and learn.
Have we deloved into a bunch of "I'm helpless and don't know what to do" people?
The buyers I see post here aren't illeterate (mostly) or they couldn't post here. So read your rights and responsibilities as a buyer.................sigh...............OK............I'm done...........................
P.S. I'm not a seller, a buyer only, so I'm not an angry seller mad at buyers.
Knowledge is power--------------------->

·8 months agoYou’re not wrong — eBay’s Money Back Guarantee covers most issues and the process is pretty straightforward if people actually read it. A lot of problems here would be solved faster by just opening a case instead of panicking or posting first. Knowledge really is power.

Problem is they were standing on the edge of the water after they clicked on the listing, they just didn't look down".
So I guess we will continue to have to use our digital buckets to throw water on those folks so they know the water is there. Too bad we can't just digitally push them in!!

·8 months ago@twk as previously stated, this thread wasn't about you. If you'll glance down the home page of this forum you'll see a plethora of posts from people whose issues could have easily been solved with the automated MBG process. This post is generally addressing that bigger problem. It would be better to post about your issues on the two posts you've already opened than to hijack this one.
To the real issue of the thread, I agree with @mudshark61369 . Too often I see posters berate someone for not reading the MBG without giving them a link to it. Sure, you know and I know that you can find it with a 10-second Google search. But it seems that if they found that intuitive they would already have done it. To me, including the link is the "leading the horse to water" part.

·8 months agoI often wonder if many of the buyers who have problems buying on Ebay, ever actually buy in a store, other than a grocery, Are their other purchases at thrift shops or flea markets.
Do the ever return purchases and know a store's return policies.
I know some Ebay buyers have are not aware of the changes Ebay has made to make this a safer place to buy. And the certainly are not aware of what items are inappropriate to buy unless they are used or for other reasons they should not expect a manufacturer's warranty to be in effect.
I do recommend chargebacks because they work, assuming the buyer is capable of communicating with the bank's representatives. Many buyers, including those who bring their problems here, cannot communicate.
Many buyers are still dealing with their disappointment with the purchases the way they were in Ebay's early days. Contacting the seller and getting anything but a resolution of their problem. Getting conned, delayed, otherwise taken advantage of.
Buyers see Ebay promoting the MBG and never click the Read More. It is easy to speculate on why. And insulting to say why.

I agree with you. I have advised some people on here that they have the option of a chargeback, but from now on, I'm going to clarify that I'd only do that as a last resort.
I have only done a chargeback once in my life (not ebay related), and although I eventually got the charge reversed, it was a hassle and it took weeks to get my money back. So, this is definitely not something I would advise people do unless they have no other option.

·8 months agoSo, we do respond to those here on what to do.
Unfortunately, we tend to give out that 'do a chargeback with your credit card' like 'water'.
And I really wonder how many buyers think of doing this before making a purchase so they can buy the item and then do a chargeback...as per someone here telling them what they can do in an 'if situation'.
I just wish some of us here would be a little more careful in saying this...maybe check out the buyer in feedbacks and what they buy and such before telling the buyer what they can do or might want to do.
It's like we are telling some how to be beat the system of buying an item and doing a chargeback before they buy the item.
soh.maryl
·8 months agoDefending myself here, to the best of my knowledge, have not ever suggested "do a chargeback" unless or T until it appears the buyer has either exhausted other possibilities or has simply let something drag on until that's the only possible option left to the buyer.
There have recently been a few posts here where the buyer apparently let it go for months, narrowing his options to doing a chargeback or nothing.

·8 months agoI find it fascinating that people will spend MORE time posting a thread about it than just reading it in the first place. It's only on EVERY listing on the site.
I get people taking pictures and sending me a message that the item I shipped them is 'scratched' yet they are actually taking a picture of the 'Back Side' where the 'other side' has a 'instruction label' 'part label' and 'factory protective coating that the owner removes'.
And these are 'car' people!!
twk
·8 months agoFWIW - this "seller" who should be booted, has been trying to get me to change the feedback if I want my refund!!! Yeah, I know - and I am not changing it as it is well-deserved. This obviously works for him as he has had many negative feedbacks changed.
soh.maryl
·8 months agoHow do you know he has had many negative feedbacks changed?
And you state you opened a case immediately. Usually the next step then is to wait 3 days for a seller response. No response or unsatisfactory one? On day #4, did you return to the case and ask eBay to step in?
BTW, asking a buyer to change FB as a condition of being refunded is also against the rules. Did you know that?
twk
·8 months agoon his feedback page there is a spot that says how many negatives have been reversed. I know I was surprised to see.
twk
·8 months agoI know that and you know that. I even have an email from him, through eBay system saying that he would refund my $$ IF I changed the negative!!
soh.maryl - this guy is so scary and conniving in things he says obviously meant to intimidate if he can't get you to feel sorry for him first. I sent a "report seller" to eBay and included some of his greatest hits.
I have read the policy and reread it and have no idea why I have not gotten my $$ yet.
soh.maryl
·8 months agoWhen did you open the case? When did you return to the case and ask eBay to step in?
eBay does not wait til the seller "puts money in" so you can be refunded. Unless there's been a recent policy change that I've missed.
twk
·8 months agoThat's what I thought. I thought eBay paid and then the seller had so many days to pay eBay if they had no $$ in their account.
toomuchstuffagain35
·8 months agoWhen ebay asked if you'd rec'd your refund yet, was a place to reply no?
twk
·8 months agoNo, that is what is confusing. It is still the same way today. I checked my original payment method and nothing has been received there either.
twk
·8 months agoNope - It only says "Have you received your refund. If not received in 3-5 business days you can ask eBay to step in." But - there is NO WHERE TO DO THAT and I have been all over looking for it.
soh.maryl
·8 months agoThe opportunity to return and ask eBay to step in should be shown in the case you opened. It should be there after 3 days.
Hope you did not find that answer offensive.
twk
·8 months agoI certainly hope you are not talking about me. I opened my case almost immediately. The first thing I got from eBay was to contact seller about issue, which I did. After no response eBay allowed me to open case.
The seller I am dealing clearly has problems in life and sent me a long litany of them including things about suicide, not being able to pay car insurance etc. that are NMP but never having had a case like him before, scared me.
The guy agrees to a refund, but here it is some 5 days, not including holidays, and I haven't gotten a dime.
The only thing on my return request is showing no money return and eBay asking me if I received my $$$.
So, I DO UNDERSTAND THE POLICY!!! But eBay does not make it that easy.

·8 months ago@twk
What you're describing is not a failure of the Money Back Guarantee or eBay making it difficult. It is that seller having personal issues. You need to just ignore them and continue to follow the procedure outlined in the MBG.
twk
·8 months agoWhich I am doing. I guess I am waiting now for the guy to put the money in so eBay can refund me. The seller accepted the return, didn't want items back so I am not waiting on that issue. I am waiting for the $$$ to hit my account and it has been 6 business days.
soh.maryl
·8 months agoJust noticed this: "The seller accepted the return, didn't want items back . . ." Doesn't that somewhat contradict itself?
twk
·8 months agoS - What I meant to say is they initiated a refund but didn't send a label to return them.
GEEZE LOUISE - Always make the person with the problem the bad guy.
You are looking for something that I didn't do. I thought you were going to help not tear me apart.
soh.maryl
·8 months agoSorry you did not like my message. Several of us were trying to figure out what you had done so far.
Can you show me where I implied that you were the "bad guy"?
twk
·8 months agoMarly - it is called giving a refund which has not materialized $$$ for me. Never sent label for return, etc. This whole matter is STRANGE. THAT is the problem. 7 Days after I initiated the "return" nadda in $$$$.
I am not the bad guy here, just looking to get my money back from a bad seller, plain and simple.

·8 months agoThe first thing I got from eBay was to contact seller about issue, which I did.
@twk
Well... this part ^^^ kinda gripes me, too. When nothing happens until the Return is opened anyway, why reach out first? ðŸ˜
jonathanbrightlight
·8 months agoI haven't had to do that in a while, but I believe that is offered as a recommended first step (and as a seller, I appreciate that), but it's not required. It's possible to just continue to opening a case, although I don't remember the layout of the screen to know how clear that option is.
twk
·8 months agoAgree. This guy wasn't even going to answer email UNTIL a case was opened. He has a reputation for ignoring buyers.
albertabrightalberta
·8 months agoGo back to the case and ask ebay to step in.
twk
·8 months agoAlberta, I have gone back to the case and there is no where to notifiy or ask eBay to step in. I read in the instructions that "a button" to ask eBay to step in would appear but so far nadda and it has been over 6 business days.
roccotacodad54
OP8 months agoNo I'm not talking about any buyer in particular.
jonathanbrightlight
·8 months agoI imagine you have the full support of many here, including myself and I imagine @soh.maryl . The only difficulty is that many posts here are after a problem is no longer able to be addressed via the MBG because they’ve waited too long or already wasted their chance like closing a return request.
pickapaper
·8 months agoI agree. It totally amazes me how many buyers do not seem to be aware of the Money Back Guarantee. Something goes wrong with their purchase and they leave a big red negative for the seller in which they indicate that they just "ate the purchase" and didn't try to or know that they could get their money back. And when a seller has "no returns", those buyers think everything is final and that they are out the money.
Equally as sad are those sellers, especially long standing ones, who do not know about the MBG.
I really don't know how it would be possible to educate either one.
