Won a bid, got notice, then showed I lost
I haven't done ebay for a while but now I want to get back to it. I placed a bid, was watching it and as soon as it ended received a message said congratulations you won the bid. Then a few minutes uses later the post said I was out bid. Is this a new scam that the seller does because he didn't like the low price?

If you bid in the last seconds of an auction you may get a "You're winning" message, and possibly a 'You have won" one. The thing is that the server may receive another bid still within the auction time frame after yours is recorded. Sometimes when the auction ends there will be a "we are determining the winner" message before a winner is declared.
On a listing page you will see for example: Ends on Saturday May 4 at 7:00pm. However, if you click on the number of bids in ( ) on that page, it will take you to the bid history page. On that page if there were bids placed before yours, under the first bid you will see that the auction started on March 28 at 7:00:25 pm. If you bid at 7:00 pm, there are still 25 seconds more left before the auction closes.
If you still have the auction on your My ebay page, click on its title you will see the ( ) number of bids and the final price, click on the number in ( ) to open the bid history page, you will see your full username, your bid amount, and the time down to the second when it was received. Above it will be a scrambled user name (a****b) the winning bid price and the exact time it was received.

There is no easy way for a seller to bid on their own auction. It can be done but rarely is.
What is more likely to happen is that the seller will end up cancelling the transaction if like you they have a low or no feedback as a seller, feedback number. Most experienced sellers starting auction bid price is for the least amount they will accept if there is only one bid. New sellers often do not know about the 21-30 day hold ebay will place on their first payments, so they do not ship or respond to messages, and may cancel the transaction.

·4 months agoNot a scam. This is just a case of eBay jumping the gun and declaring a winner before things are truly settled. Someone placed a last second bid which wasn’t synced up, from a systems standpoint. We will see that occasionally as a complaint.
