Why is item feedback time limit so short?
Why is the feedback time limit for an item so short? Ebay allows sellers to put up items with long warranties but sixty day feedback limit. At a minimum ITEMS should be available for feedback during the warranty period.
For example, I recently bought three digital meters and two USB chargers/meters from a user with tens of thousands of feedback and lots of item feedback (shortly after purchase). One meter failed after six power cycles. One meter failed after one power cycle. One USB charger/meter (which was only used for the meter, never connected anything to charge) burned up after only being plugged in six times. Thankfully I didn't forget it in the vehicle with the 12V outlet that stays ON full time. The other I loaned a friend and am going to tell to throw away.
I have purchased many low usage frequency items that fail after a few uses within the warranty period but cannot let others know they are not good. I don't even care about replacement or refund, I want others to not waste their money. This is unhelpful to the consumer. Don't get me started on the vast multitude of users who sell something like tool batteries with a five year warranty, then close up shop in a year and open a new identical account.....

·5 months agoI had the same experience with a seller of refurbished phones. After 2 months, it stopped working and now the seller won't even respond to me. I've learned my lesson about buying electronics on ebay.

Or those listed as 'new' but are already 2 or 3 years into their warranty period. I wonder how eBay considers a battery sitting on a shelf for 10 years but never used? I don't think they have a 'new, old stock' option when a seller wants to list one.
As an example - those 'refurbished' Dyson products. They don't put new batteries in them so how long they last when you get it is a crap shoot. They do offer a warranty, tho like most such warranties, it's probably another crap shoot.

·5 months agoLooked at my Amazon purchases, I can leave both feedback and product review on the transaction for about 90 days, after that only the product review. The two are not the same. Feedback, same as here, is on the actual transaction and product review is on the actual product. Most items on Amazon only have a 30 return window, which would be the same as eBay.

·5 months agoWARRANTEES are handled by the Manufacturer; NOT the seller.
Therefore, any 'feedback' you leave would be about the transaction completed by the SELLER and should be done within the time alloted.
Thankfully, because most don't understand that, the 'rule' is a GREAT rule.

" I asked about ITEM FEEDBACK period. Not seller. Not transaction . Not warranty. Not getting a refund. Feedback on the actual ITEM".
What you should be asking about is Product Reviews not feedback which is about the seller and the transaction. You can use the stars on a feedback form to rate the product. they are aggregated based on product identifiers like UPC or ISBN to help buyers evaluate items. They are primarily used on products from the eBay catalog.
As for having a longer period for leaving feedback, ebay used to give buyers up to 90 days to leave feedback, but too many were left for buyer damaged, abused, or misused items, so they shortened it to 60 days. AS others have written, all too often warranties are either not available from the Mfr. if the seller is not an authorized dealer, or the item was discontinued or superseded. Seller's offering store warranties longer than 30 days are not covered by the MBG after 30 days. If you buy an item with saying in the listing, there is a warranty and do not receive one with the item, or you try to register one with the Mfr. and it's refused. You can use the MBG to return the item up to 30 days after receiving it for being not as described.

·5 months agoSellers provide you a service. The service they provided you was complete. They did there part which is a positive. Now months later you have a problem with the item you purchased. Ok well that's not the sellers responsibility after 30 days. I would suggest buying local if you are having issues with electronics failing you within months. Also remember you get what you pay for. If the item is cheap chances are it won't last long.

OP5 months agoEbay allows feedback on the actual ITEM now. I asked about ITEM FEEDBACK period. Not seller. Not transaction . Not warranty. Not getting a refund. Feedback on the actual ITEM.
I can go on Amazon, Walmart, etc and leave feedback for an ITEM ten years after buying something if I want. I am not asking for that. However, there needs to be a longer time limit to rate the quality of an ITEM independent of everything else.

·5 months agoIt wouldn't be too helpful, if they started getting a lot of negative reviews on an item, they could just end the listing and start a new listing and those reviews wouldn't follow to the new one. Rinse and repeat as it happens over and over again.

Yet majority of your post talks about how the items you purchased was defective after many months. You received the item and it was functionable at the time of receiving it and within 30 days. That's the time to judge. Lets say you leave a negative feedback for a seller after 9 months which I know you can't on Ebay but hypothetically speaking that feedback would be irrelevant cause you are dealing with an issue with the product itself not the service in addition to a transaction which wasn't not current at all. If you want to leave feedback do it right away. Do not wait.

·5 months agoBecause ebay sellers are not required to guarantee products for five years after the sale. That's the manufacturer's job.
Feedback is whether or not the seller mailed your item on time - not for the manufacturer's production quality or lack thereof.

·5 months agoThe money back is for only 30 days after delivery. Unless sold by factory authorized dealer or the factory itself, there is no warranty beyond the 30 days allowed by eBay.

·5 months agoI think 60 days is more than generous. To me feedback time limit should actually match the money back guarantee time limit...so 30 days.
