WHY DOES EBAY TRACKING STATUS SAY "SHIPPED" WHEN THE POSTAL SERVICE DIDN'T GET IT???
I have been waiting and watching an tracking status of "SHIPPED" on an item I bought only to finally discover that the tracking at USPS reports it has not been received by USPS after 1 week and they haven't taken it to the USPS and it is not in their system yet!!!!!
WHY DOES EBAY ALLOW A "SHIPPED" STATUS AFTER THE SELLER PRINTS THE LABEL AND THEY HAVEN'T TAKEN IT TO THE USPS YET??????????????????????????????????
I CANNOT FIND A WAY TO CONTACT EBAY ABOUT THIS ANYWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

·2 years agoI dropped off a package at the post office on Oct 30th. I have a scan confirming I dropped it off. It has not received a single scan since then. The only proof I have that I dropped it off, is that scan I got at the hand off.
I could very easily drop it off and not get it scanned. So had I not gotten a scan at hand off, then what? That package wouldn't have ANY scan. Then, my buyer would be blaming me right now. My only way to show "hey, not my fault" is that scan saying I dropped it off. Thank god for that scan.
To get that scan, you either need to deal with a USPS employee or a kiosk. I have 4 post offices near me, 3 are physically open 24/7, 2 of which have a kiosk. I am able to get my drop off scans because of that, I have had many times where I dropped off while the post office retail services were closed. Some sellers are unable to drop off during retail hours and do not have kiosks at their respective locations. Double whammy.

·2 years agoSo you're leaving ebay because you don't like the wording ebay uses when sellers purchase shipping labels?
Something tells me that with the number of disappointing transactions you've had, you were looking for a reason to leave.
Good luck on Amazon! They have the same wording when a label is purchased. These are 2 of the emails I've received from them.
1. Your Amazon.com order #113-6258479-8176247 has shipped
2. Your Amazon.com order has shipped (#113-2630185-9167435)

It's customary for online venues to notify customers that an item has 'shipped' as soon as a label has been created, since the company has no way of knowing exactly when a package has been dropped off ... USPS being notorious for not scanning packages 'Accepted'.
eBay actually changed the wording of it's notification from "Your package has shipped!" to "Your package is being shipped!" ... that that doesn't seem to have changed things much.

Well, then you surely should tell them that ... as well as every other company that uses similar words to eBay.
OR ... now that you understand what the words in the notification really means, you could adjust your expectations. 🙂

I did tell them , and no, I don't intend to "adjust" to an alternate English language with different definitions.

I merely mentioned the option of adjusting your ‘expectations’ … since we have far more latitude in changing ourselves than trying to force others to change their behavior.
[I guess that shows that interpretation of English is trickier than previously thought.] 😊

·2 years agoIf you're not concerned with other companies I'm curious why you mentioned Amazon in your first post. But perhaps you really don't care about what they do, since you're going to them when they use exactly the same kind of shipping notifications eBay uses.

·2 years agoI am a smaller seller (10-20 sales/week). EVERY order is dropped off in person (stand in line and play Pokemon Go...there's a gym right there)....why? after a period 2 years ago that had 'no scans as accepted' for a couple days after I dropped some orders in the lobby hamper instead of checking them in with the clerk.......they eventually showed up at the destination sorting facility....
I have had some never get scanned then show up as delivered......
I guess what I am saying is, did you check with the seller and ask? Again, in my case, I always check the daily drop offs to make sure they show is "Accepted at Origin"...If they don't I contact the buyer to let them know I dropped it off, and the scan is not registering....
Try the seller....and take the stick-um of your ? key

·2 years agoAs others have pointed out, the shipping notification gets sent as soon as the seller creates a label.
Each seller has their own handling time and estimated delivery date that is clearly shown on their listing, as long as the item arrives by that date, no harm - no foul. It's also important to remember that postal scans are often hit or miss these days, especially origin scans. So the question here is; has the estimated delivery date passed?

OP2 years agoNo, the estimated delivery is 11 days from the purchase. which is another problem.

·2 years agoIf you haven't received it by the estimated delivery date, you can open an INR case ( item not received ).
you posted that the estimated delivery date is 'another problem', did you see the EDD before you purchased?
When it comes to ebay, there's the way things ought to be, and there's the way that they are.
No one here writes ebay policy, nor have we any influence in that regard. We just try to explain the nuts and bolts of it all.

·2 years agoThe estimated delivery dates are shown on every single listing before you make the purchase. If they're a problem the solution is to hit the back button, not make the purchase then complain about it.

·2 years agoOkay, so then why are you concerned? The only thing that matters is the estimated delivery date. I just had a package I received go from being scanned at a facility three states away to being out for delivery. Scans are not reliable and a lack of scans doesn't mean that a package hasn't been shipped.

·2 years agoThis is why i always wait to have my packages scanned and get a receipt. It usually takes a couple hours after scan for the PO tracking to read PO is in possession of the item.

·2 years agoEbay has absolutely no way to know when a seller actually ships a package. And they're not alone in marking a shipment as sent when a label is created. Many e-commerce sites I shop on do the same thing.

If you want to see if it's shipped, check the tracking.

·2 years agoAlthough some other sites do not consider an item to have been shipped until the first scan has occurred, Ebay considers an item shipped when a seller purchases a label, or marks the order shipped.
This is one of the features which exist because Ebay is solely dependent on revenue from sellers.
Sellers are advised when their shipped order must actually be shipped by when they mark it shipped. Some sellers don't follow this instruction.
You are covered by the Ebay Guarantee, but it may take longer than other sites to refund you.

Have you tried contacting the seller? You say it hasn't been shipped. Did
the seller tell you that?

OP2 years agoThe seller is saying he is "aware" of "delays" with the postal service which is a lie. Yea good suggestion.
