Why can orders be canceled before 7 days when the seller has 7 days combined shipping?
Summary: The discussion revolves around the confusion expressed by terrapincollectibles regarding why orders can be canceled before 7 days, even though sellers offer a 7-day combined shipping period. jonathanbrightlight and bonanza125 appear to have responded to this query, likely offering explanations or clarifications, after which terrapincollectibles engaged further by responding to their inputs. The conversation demonstrates a need for clarification on order cancellation policies in relation to shipping arrangements.
I pretty much exclusively buy in the sports card category, and combined shipping is very common since it makes sense to do combined ground shipping for items that are so small and light. When a seller has combined shipping, the auto-pay is set for 7 days in the future and your cart says you can shop with the seller until then. So if I bought something today, my cart would have a message similar to this for the seller: "Autopay will occur on June 12th at 7 PM. Show with this seller until then to combine shipping."
Why are sellers able to overrule this and still cancel after four days when the cart explicitly states the buyer can shop with them until this date? Surely a seller consciously choosing this option should set the date of payment to that date for non-payment cancelations and should supersede the otherwise 4 days buyers are given.
I am just frustrated as I am once again having to go through support to have unpaid strikes on my account removed and missed out on several auctions because of this. The seller I was shopping with normally allowed the full 7 days, but I am positive they used this to cancel an item that went for lower than it should have without having to face the strike themselves.

·2 months agoWhen an item is won through auction or through BIN Ebay expects the seller to ship off within the handling time stated regardless. If you don't then seller will get defect. It is the buyers responsibility to pay for the item and have the seller ship off within handling date. Ebay gives buyers 4 days to pay. My handling date is 1 day. If a customer wants to combine ship an item they much message contact me direct and work out an arrangement where they can purchase the item immediately and have the item shipped together. If not then the second item must be shipped separately. Which means double the shipping cost.

OP2 months agoThe handling time clock starts upon payment, not when the item is won or added to the cart with a BIN. There might be a disconnect here since it looks like you sell video games and not sports cards, but the way sports cards sellers work is they expect you to buy multiple cards over days and have policies such as an extra $0.25 per a card bought for shipping and handling over the 7 day period. These are consignors that sell maybe 100,000 cards a week and not smaller sellers that expect a message from people since it is not really needed in the sports card world.
The main issue is that if eBay is telling you that you have until a date to continue buying with the seller since they added 7-day combined shipping, then that should not be able to be superseded.
I had one seller apologize and had to help them through their settings since they had auto-cancel for non-payment on which overrode their combined shipping settings. I showed them how to turn it off, but it was annoying to once again have to go to support to have strikes removed and for the seller to need to make a custom order since eBay's system is so flawed.

·2 months agoThey can’t. If that option is enabled, they can’t cancel before the 7 days. It’s only sellers who don’t offer both combined shipping and autopay that will have the option to cancel unpaid orders after 4 days, and you won’t see that message on orders from those sellers.

OP2 months agoIt just happened again which is what spurred this question. An item was purchased on May 30th with a seller that combines shipping, and in the cart, I had the message about autopay on June 6th at 7 PM and to shop with the seller until that date to combine. The item was then canceled on June 3rd at the four day mark. I was explicitly told by support that the combined shipping does not supersede the seller's ability to cancel at the four day mark, which seems to not make sense when the cart explicitly tells you to continue shopping with the seller until that date. This is not a one-off and I need to go to support way too often for these strikes.
