Why are items marked "shipped" before they actually ship?
Why are items marked "This item has been shipped" when it's still in the seller's possession? To me "shipped" means it's in possession of the shipper being actively moved toward the destination. Why does that concept not apply in eBay world?
How does it even work when a tracking number is generated when it's still in the seller's possession? "A shipping label has been created" - what's the mechanism by which that happens? I've sold a relative handful of items, it's been years since I've sold anything - when I have the process has been - I pack the item and take it to the post office, they put a label on it, give me a tracking number which I messaged to the buyer.
I don't remember the last time a seller messaged me with a tracking number, it's always comes through the eBay system. Can you no longer do it the way I outlined above?

·3 years agoMost sellers create labels through eBay after the sale. The shipping notation and tracking number is added when the label is generated. It's marked shipped because it's not reasonable to expect every seller to physically go back into every listing and mark it shipped when it's actually handed off to the carrier. Nor can eBay hire enough people to follow around each of the millions of sellers to note when a package is shipped. And most sellers don't send tracking because when they purchase their label through eBay they know eBay will handle the notification.
Honestly, I fail to understand the obsession with tracking. Every listing shows the seller's handling time and the estimated delivery dates. Those dates are what matters to open a Money Back Guarantee case.

·2 years agoI respectfully disagree. I think it is completely reasonable to expect someone that is selling an item to physically go back into the listing and mark it shipped when it is actually shipped.
