White Goods Disposal Tax on used parts
why is nc residents being charged a flat 3 dollar White Goods Disposal Tax on used refrigerator parts . this makes no since even a used led light out of a refrigerator is taxed 3.00 on top of the already sales tax now. if you buy even a 4 dollar used led light out of a fridge in this state your taxed sales tax and a flat 3 dollar tax

·3 years agoI was charged three bucks on a coffee mug immersion heater. What is so underhanded, it didn't show the additional tax before I purchased the item!

Sounds like you live in a state (North Carolina?) where you think the state's taxation policies are oppressive.
You don't mention eBay in your post, but you posted your opinion in the Buying forum of eBay's Community.
Neither eBay nor any individual who posts on these forums can do anything about taxation in North Carolina.
Contact your state's legislature to change the state's tax policy, or even run for office yourself.
Or move to a state where the taxes are more to your liking.

·3 years ago@monroe67 - no, it sounds like @angwjea has a problem with eBay collecting fees they shouldn't be per the state's own guidelines and the eBay tax policy page.
Per NC Department of Revenue:
The white goods disposal tax is $3.00 and is applicable to all new white goods sold by a retailer or purchased for storage, use, or consumption in North Carolina. It applies to all new white goods with or without chlorofluorocarbon refrigerants and is in addition to all other taxes.

It's very clear this fee is *only* supposed to apply to new condition white goods, not used and not parts.
eBay has been doing the same with the California eWaste fee for months - it's only supposed to apply to new/refurbished condition but eBay is charging it on used and for parts condition items as well.

This isn't just a problem for buyers - any time eBay adds these additional fees/taxes in error, sellers are also paying additional final value fees that should not apply because the FVF is charged on the total including taxes and fees.
@elizabeth@ebay another issue to add to your list of eBay not correctly applying taxes and fees.

·3 years agoGolly. I can remember when the biggest issue with throwing out a refrigerator was keeping kids from being trapped inside it. At least then they did not charge a tax on every kid found inside.

·3 years agoWhen I was a kid (80s) we had a fear of abandoned refrigerators. That, and sticking a fork in a toaster, or wearing another kid's hat and getting lice. It was the trifecta of 80s kids terror.
