When the seller provides a tracking number that doesn't correspond to the order.
Dear all,
I have been an ebay member for 20 years and this terrible situation that I'm in is to a great extent unbelievable. In few words I bought a very expensive item from a seller with zero sales. The seller declared the item dispatched and provided a tracking number that has nothing to do with my delivery address. The curious thing is that I have messaged with 2 ebay agents, explaining the problem and asking them to check the tracking number in the dhl page. They refused to do it and said that they see no problem to it. I bought this item from Italy and my address is in Greece. The tracking number provided by the seller is for a domestic shipment in Germany. I mean that is so much easy to see the fraud here. And they just don't want to see it.
I have done a request of not receiving it, but what else can I do?
Thank you very much for your help.

·2 years agoIf you have filed a request 'Item Not Received,' you have done it correctly. Don' t communicate with any agents, most of the time they have no idea about anything, just follow the instructions you have received from ebay after filing. Ebay will ask the seller to provide the proof of mailing (tracking number) and if it does not show that it was delivered, you will receive a refund. Always follow the steps exactly what ebay says. This is how things normally work.

Because you are registered in Greece which does not have its own ebay site, you probably registered to use ebay from one of their European based sites possibly the U.K.(ebay.co.uk) or Germany (ebay.de) based ones. You have posted on the U.S. based site (ebay.com) where dealing with international shipping problems does not happen often. If you go to your home site's community and post your problem there, they may be able to give you the information you need to get a refund.
There are 3 things I can tell you that you need to know in this type of situation.
1) eBay agents cannot do more than check a tracking number to see if there is a delivered scan. They are not allowed to access to the address or package information (type/size/weight) on shipping labels, because of shipping agencies privacy policies, since they are neither the sender or recipient. You have to get that information in writing. How you can do that with DHL is not something I can tell you since almost no one in the U.S. ships items using that service even for foreign sales.
2) Buying expensive items from (0) feedback sellers often results in problems, usually due to their inexperience with ebay's policies, but more often these days, because they are scammers. If what you bought had a below normal price, you should not have bought from the seller. You should only buy expensive photographic equipment from sellers who have experience selling photo equipment.
3) You will probably lose the Item Not Received claim you filed, for the reasons given in #1. You may be able to get information on how to win an appeal, from members on your home site.
