What would you consider a "complete set"?
So I bought what was listed as a "complete set" of 8 mystery eggs where a complete set would be 8 eggs, 1 of each color.
What I received was 8 'random eggs' with some dupes.
The seller is insisting a "complete set" is 8 random eggs.
Who do you think is right?

·10 months agoSome sellers can be stubborn, I consider myself to be in that group however I have learned not to let those differences get into the messages between myself and a buyer.
It is really simple, you as the buyer are unhappy with your purchase.
So myself as a seller, as soon as you sent me the first message I would reply with:
I am sorry, please return the item for a full refund.
And that's it.
No going back and forth over minutiae, 8 random or 8 of each, doesn't matter, just return the items and I will issue the refund.
That is what I would do and how I as a seller would've handled it.

Sellers like this, and similar buyers’ experiences - like this - are why sales are down and customers leave the platform. 😞
Sorry this happened to you.

·10 months agoSeller is obviously confused between full set and full retail box.
If I ordered a Pokémon Mega Evolution full set, I would expect all 310 individual cards, not a box of booster packs containing random cards…

OP10 months agoOMG. This egg debacle can't be over soon enough. She sent me FIVE messages tonight all about how "everyone at ebay agrees with her" and I only got a return label because SHE 'opened a case' on the return.

·10 months agoFirst of all I agree with what you are calling a complete set.
Also I see you are also a seller, if you haven't already I'd block this person so they can't turn around and buy from you.
toomuchstuffagain35
OP10 months agoUnfortunately I don't feel right about blocking them while the case is still open, now that ebay has unilaterally decided for us that blocking them from buying ALSO blocks all messages.
And frankly, tbh, I don't think they're that ebay savvy.

·10 months agoOnly if you check mark that option.
I'm a seller and have a buyer that their package shows as delivered and the missing mail search with USPS got closed because it shows delivered. They are still asking me to get USPS to give them a refund.
I went ahead and blocked them from buying again and they can still message me.
wastingtime101
·10 months ago@momtoabeautifuldaughter . ID on your blocked list means they cannot send you a message through member-to-member messages, full stop.
If you are receiving communication from them, then it is a message within an INR, not a message through the messages system. Within an INR is one of the very few exceptions where communication can still make it through, but that's an INR response, not a message.
The check box you are referring to is about buyer requirements (unpaid items, locations you don't ship to, etc) and it has no bearing on whether people on your BBL can message you or not. Two separate things.

OP10 months agoI agree. The seller, unfortunately, doesn't.
toomuchstuffagain35
OP10 months agoSo the seller isn't responding to my request for a return label.
The return page says "If you have not agreed on a solution or the seller has not responded by Oct 23, you can ask us to step in and help." Well it's the 23rd now and the only option shown is "reply to seller".
Will I get an option to ask ebay to step in tomorrow or will they just close the case out as no response?
jonathanbrightlight
·10 months agoThe option to ask eBay to step in should appear at some point today, usually right around the same time of day that the request was opened. So by tomorrow it should definitely be there.

·10 months agoBy [end of day] Oct 23 which means you can ask eBay to step in on Oct 24.

OP10 months agoYes, the option to open a case was there this morning so now I guess I have to wait yet another 48 hours to get a resolution.
This has been nearly a month since I ordered them now.

OP10 months agoGot a return label from ebay and printed that off and sent them back through the PO today. I sent them back the same way they were sent to me, loose in a padded mailer, so I hope they make it.
Seller sends me a message "Next time make sure to ask about the colors!! You asked if you had a complete set of 8, they're are 8, thank you so much. I will send you a return label, and this will be appealed and overruled for having opened and devalued the products. God bless!!"
Also sent me a screenshot of a googled AI answer.........she obviously didn't bother to read the last part about "complete sets".

·10 months agoSeller will have the same problem when she tries to resell as a "complete" set.
toomuchstuffagain35
OP10 months agoWell she sold another 2 'complete sets' and I'm guessing either the buyers didn't know any better, were discouraged by the seller, or maybe got some of the harder to find colors so they didn't care? LOL
I'll just be glad when this fiasco is over. I've never ever had a seller this pigheaded before.
na_833338
·10 months agoIf a "complete set" is eight different colors and that's not what you got, then it's not a "complete set."
And if after contacting them to complain, they tell you that they had already contacted eBay and that you have no chance to win if you start a return, then they sound very much a seller that I dealt with several years ago. If they lied about the "complete set", then another lie about having already contacted eBay would be 'par for the course'. They will tell you whatever they think will make you go away (and keep your money).
I had bought what was advertised as a complete year of 1971 for a popular weekly magazine. What I received was missing three key issues out of the year. When I contacted the seller to say that it was incomplete they told me that the magazine was not issued for those particular weeks.
My reply back to them was that 'yes they were issued, because you can buy those individual issues on eBay right now'. That's when they told me they had already contacted eBay and were told the buyer could not win if he filed a case. They were wrong. I won. Some people will never admit that they are wrong, no matter how wrong they are.

Your title of this thread is "What would you consider a "complete set"". Your opinion is that a complete set is one of each color, which posters have both agreed and disagreed with.
It really doesn't matter what other people consider a complete set. You are not happy with your purchase so return it.

OP10 months agoI did open a SNAD return. So far the only response from the seller has been a message in the dispute that they "spoke to ebay and I will NOT be getting a refund".
That's why I was wondering if ebay is smart enough to see what I got and what was listed was different.

If you opened a claim and the seller did not respond to the claim within two days, you should be able to go back into the claim and ask eBay to step in. They will force a refund from the seller. I'm guessing the seller did not speak with eBay and if they did, the CS agent told them what they wanted to hear, not the facts. What the seller said about you not getting a refund is not true. And if worse comes to worse, you can always go to your payment source (credit card, etc) and file a chargeback.
jonathanbrightlight
·10 months agoYeah, that sounds like them trying to bully you into giving up. I would expect by now the option to ask eBay to step in should have appeared within the case, if they haven’t sent a return shipping label. I’d make sure to do that as soon as possible.
house*of*paws
·10 months agoBut would any of us be surprised to learn that a CS rep had actually assured the seller that they wouldn’t have to refund the OP? I believe that’s probably the case.
Nor would I be surprised to see a thread started shortly by the seller who is outraged at losing both their items and their money to the OP.
Their listing reminds me of listings for PHOTOS of hot items (at slightly reduced prices) that are described in a way that many buyers believe they are buying the physical item. These sellers often are incredulous over losing claims.
toomuchstuffagain35
OP10 months agoWell I wouldn't keep the money AND the items, but I'm not paying to send them back on my dime.
The seller has until the 23rd to approve the return and issue a label, but tbh I don't see that happening, given the attitude so far.
house*of*paws
·10 months ago@toomuchstuffagain35
It was clear to me that you did not WANT to keep both the item and the money ... but it also seemed likely to me that the seller wasn't going to budge from their 'no returns' position until eBay stepped in with a refund. AND at the moment you receive the refund ... you won't have access to a free shipping label in the usual way.
You would have to deal directly with the seller at that point. They either need to send you the return shipping money through PayPal ... OR they can purchase a shipping label and Copy & Paste it to an email. [I kind of doubt they'll be in the mood to deal with you ... but, hopefully, they'll realize they'd be shooting themselves in the foot if they don't.]

·10 months agoHonestly, we need to see the listing. What is the item #, the listing #.
There sure are a LOT of assumptions being thrown around here WITHOUT seeing the listing itself.
No advice should be given BLIND as it being given now. Show us what you're talking about, THEN we should start giving opinions as to who is in the right, not in the right.

OP10 months ago#376510959411
You can also look at the other sold listings for 'complete sets'.
hotwheelsbum
·10 months agoOK, here is the Description on what you bought:
$180 PER SET (8) OR BEST OFFER
OR ALL FOUR FOR $400
Selling three complete, unopened sets of
-Hot Wheels Mario Kart Yoshi Eggs-Asking $180 (or best offer) per set.
These are limited edition collector's items, very hard to find.
They are SELLING extremely fast online, and typically run $230-$270 for a complete set of 8 unopened. There are 3 complete sets, with display boxes. Asking $180 (or best offer) per set.
Available for local pickup or delivery in Las Vegas.
Then I went and looked at the other "SOLD" Listings also. Nowhere in any of those other SOLD listings does it state the "Sets" include "1 of each color" as you so claim. Not a single seller has stated that. Maybe that's why the "sets" are called "Mystery Sets". I don't know. All 3 of those boxes in your Sellers listings looks as if they were never opened. The "Eggs" themselves are also sealed as shown in the SOLD listings also. As shown in the listing, a "Complete Set" includes "8 eggs". Nothing at all mentioned each egg should be a different color. If you received 8 Eggs in a Set, then Seller hasn't misrepresented anything.
To add, Seller did just register here recently. Only sold 4 things. Already has a Negative. Did you not notice that? Is Seller actually here in the US, or did package come from outside the US? Up in the air on this one. From what's shown, Seller didn't misrepresent anything. But I could be wrong. 🙃
toomuchstuffagain35
OP10 months agoThat's your opinion but I believe you're wrong.
Most buyers would understand a 'complete set' to be 1 of each of the 8 colors imho.
Their neg was after I bought. It took me 3 weeks to get my order because the buyer had a list of 'this is why I haven't shipped yet' . Apparently their other buyer wasn't willing to wait as long as I did.
Trust me 8 'random' eggs are not worth what the seller wanted. A 'complete set' is.
Oh and btw, those "boxes' shown are just the shelf display boxes. They are definitely open lol It's the eggs that are sealed.
hotwheelsbum
·10 months agoWell then in that case, I'm on the Sellers side on this one. Reason why, you obviously knew more than what the Seller did, and failed to ask the pertinent questions in regards to whether these were "Complete Sets" or not. "Most Buyers", not all per your own admission, most would know a Complete Set would be 8 different colors. But this listing did not reflect that. Listing only states Complete Set of 8, and there's obviously Buyers out there that do not know "Complete" means 8 different colors. Not "ALL" Buyers know of the 8 different colors. If I bought this, and I got 8, then HEY, I'm Happy, I got my set of 8. You being the know all of all this, maybe you should have asked this pertinent question first, does all 8 include all 8 different colors, especially seeing the new account, and the fresh Negative, AND seeing all the SOLD listings DO NOT mention the "Sets" being 8 different colors. Oh, and the 3 weeks to get it to you was not due to "their other buyer wasn't willing to wait as long as I did". It probably took 3 weeks for them to get them to you from overseas somewhere. Another Red Flag.
Again, Seller did nothing wrong. You misread the listing, didn't ask the important questions prior to buying, notice the Red Flags with concerns to this New Seller.
My Opinion of course........😃
toomuchstuffagain35
OP10 months agoAs I said, they didn't get that neg until after I had bought.
If you look at this current listing for preowned carts you'll note it says 'complete set of 8" plus 4 others. 326791919252
I didn't 'misread the listing'. They listed a "complete set".
And they were NOT overseas. I bought on 9/27. They simply did not ship for 2 weeks.
house*of*paws
·10 months agoHi @toomuchstuffagain35
To me, a ‘complete set’ means ‘one of each’ … with ‘each’ being whatever distinguishes one unit from another.
You really have to mangle the English language to consider a Complete Set = a Random Set = a Mystery Set. 😖
Why bother offering exactly ‘8’, calling it ‘a complete set’ … if any number of random pickings can be considered ‘complete’.
In short, trust your own intelligence to know what the phrase ‘complete set’ means. 😉
wastingtime101
·10 months agoNah, this isn't on the buyer. This is on the seller.
Seller specified a "complete set," not a random set of 8. Those are 2 very different things.
Any buyer purchasing something advertised as a "complete set" here should expect 1 each of the 8 different figures. It's not on the buyer to ask if the seller was accurate in their description.
If the seller described it as a set of 8 items, then yeah, the buyer should maybe ask. But using the phrase "complete set" is pretty darn clear - no ambiguity there to raise a flag.
wastingtime101
·10 months agoAnybody familiar with that type of product knows a complete set includes one of each different figure.
Maybe the seller isn't familiar with the product, but if they think 8 random eggs is a "complete" set then they are wrong. That's just a "random" set, not a "complete" set.
The seller knew enough to know there are 8 different figures that make up the set, so the seller should be aware they need to provide all 8 figures to make a "complete" set.
Buyer is in the right on this one.

·10 months agoI agree with you, but it doesn't matter.
Open a Not As Described claim and get a refund.
the seller responded that they'spoke to ebay' and I 'would not be getting a refund'.
You now should be escalating the Claim.
If the seller has not sent you Return Shipping, they lose the Claim.
And you now have eight eggs.

·10 months ago"Complete set of mystery eggs"
Without knowing anything about this product, seeing the word 'mystery' makes me assume this is some kind of grab bag item, and by its very nature can't be a complete set.
The seller was wrong to use both the words "complete set" and "mystery".
The buyer should have seen the red flags.
"ESH" as they say on reddit.
I can't say for certain which way ebay will rule on this.
toomuchstuffagain35
OP10 months agoNo these are 'mystery' items that actually have codes on them that tell what character is in the item. So easy enough to tell if you have a 'complete set' or not.
The whole point is - they were LISTED as a "complete set", not as 8 random mystery eggs.

·10 months agoObviously a complete set is 1 each of the 8 different eggs. The seller is wrong.
Also, there's often (but not always) a way to tell what's in those blind bags, like a reference number by the barcode or similar.
toomuchstuffagain35
OP10 months agoYep. I didn't even have to open them to know I had dupes, not one of each different color.
I have a feeling the seller saw listings where the complete sets were going for a high $ amount and just listed them without a clue what was meant by a complete set.
stephenmorgan
·10 months agoI can understand the description to be interpreted as either 1 set of 8 or as a set of 8 different ones.
If I knew of a way to tell the Mystery of what is inside the packages without opening the packages I would have asked for this information prior to purchasing, especially since the boxes were not sealed. If something different arrived then what was in the packages then I might be concerned that I was mislead of what I was getting.
toomuchstuffagain35
OP10 months agoI know what the codes are on the bottom of them. I didn't ask because the seller listed a 'complete set'.
