What is happening with "for parts" items being listed as used?
I've been on ebay 26 years, I've..... gotten in trouble a few times on some of my listings, also gotten many items free because too many sellers don't know the rules (which haven't really changed much since the early 2000s) so I'm a little surprised to see so many items marked as a USED but in the descriptions the sellers are putting AS-IS FOR PARTS. In the past I would report these and in a day or two be told they were removed, but today I reported some and got a response within minutes saying AI concluded they did not violate ebay policy. That's shocking because they clearly do violate policy, it's actually one of the clearly written rules, under Listing practices > Search and browse manipulation > Incorrect Item Condition. So is ebay just refunding all of these if someone buys them? Because I know if a seller lists it in FOR PARTS category the buyer is on their own, it's almost impossible to get a refund, but if it's in USED category it usually needs to be working and functioning like normal, not parts. Has anyone bought something that was in USED but title or description said FOR PARTS and tried to get a refund?

Maybe you should open the link below, and you will find out why some sellers put the REAL condition in the description. In several categories where the option should be available, it isn't an option a seller can choose.

My answer to that question is NO, because I know that the For Parts option is not available for all categories of items, and because If the seller is honest enough to describe the item as "Not Working, For Parts Only..." , I believe them.
However, because I do recondition some of the items I buy for resale, I will ask the seller, if a part that I want for that purpose is with the item or is one of the damaged/missing parts, before buying. After all one of ebay's suggestions that has been around since the beginning is: Read everything on a listing, and ask the seller questions if needed.

EBay is not for everyone. Sometimes a brick and mortar store is a better option.

·1 year agoSo, you are surprised this is happening, but rather than educate someone on their errors (or moving on) you are resigned to take advantage of their ignorance by getting free items, and you are letting all of us know this on a community board thread?

Reports now go to a bot whose "auto responder" regurgitates the same message regardless of the actual truth of the matter. Don't feel shocked, it does it for everything.
As @bennotbill suggests, it doesn't matter what the description says anyway. When a buyer files a 'not as described' claim on eBay, the item becomes whatever the buyer says it is regardless of the veracity of the claim. Sell a mint in box IPhone or a 14K gold bracelet, if the buyer claims they got a rock in a bag, the buyer will prevail.

·1 year agoSome categories don't have a "For parts or not working" option.
And sadly it makes no difference if someone opens an item not as described claim for something that they say is not working, even if the item is correctly listed under "For parts or not working".

·1 year agoIf it is labeled USED and arrives broken, there will be no problem getting a refund if you follow the eBay MBG policy. (return item not as described) Most of the time it is sellers that are not familiar how to list on eBay's choosing the correct condition. It is important for buyers to know and understand how they are protected. When i look at items that may have used and for parts in the description, i assume it will be for parts and pay accordingly.
