warning to all buyers pass the word
ebay has been accepting both listings from china and other areas in southeast asia. these listings are for 2023, 2024, and now 2025 in mint condition for low to mid $20.00 range each. I bought some a while ago because of the low price, off of ebay. when I received them, having had second thoughts, I weighed them. They all weighed 20 ounces each, then I knew they were fake. Now with the silver spot price closing at $31.69, those listings that are in the $20.00 bracket have to be fake. So I warn all sellers to warn their buyers that, if it sounds to good to be true, it is probably fake.
Any buyers that already bought them should have them weighed if they do not have scales and if the show less that 32 grams to report the coins to ebay.

OP1 year agothanx, I guess I should have proof read the message before I sent it. I noticed that I also forgot to mention what coin I was referring to, the American silver eagle.

Each? That's a pretty heavy coin. Maybe you intended to say 20 grams? A troy ounce weighs 31.1 grams, so a coin weighing only two-thirds that much would be obviously fake.

·1 year agoI can imagine when people go to cash them in, they will find out, but these counterfeit coins will forever be in America and, elsewhere.
There will never be a way to get rid of them, simply too many. And then you have all the sellers (thieves-not the good guys.) that purchase them to deceive others for money.
Maybe we now need some kind of inexpensive counterfeit coin detector, like a fake bill detector?
Years ago, I also purchased some of these "fake" coins, they even fooled a few estate people I deal with who had me take them to a coin dealer to verify what I already suspected. He cut a slice out of one, and did a chemical test, destroying the coin, but I didn't care, I wanted to know...unknown metal, but not silver...they are very good fakes...btw, the coin shop had a display case where they actually sold these fakes for like $1 a piece as "tokens" or something...??

There are free apps that can detect counterfeit one ounce silver coins and rounds of various kinds by the sound made when balancing the coin on a finger and tapping it with a plastic pen.

·1 year agoThat's not a reputable coin shop! A reputable one would NEVER risk his business to sell fakes because he'd know they're illegal to sell any way any how!
As I said in my earlier #3 post, there's only one reason why an experienced coin seller would buy coins from China.

Even going so far to use a real coin pictured then send a counterfeit.
There are already thousands of counterfeits in many USA collections as people don't even know they have them.

·1 year agoI was instructed to look at coin's definitions. The feathers lines on the eagle should be clear, the lines in Liberty's dress clearly defined. Personally, most of the coins I'm seeing as uncirculated look like copies. The features aren't clearly defined, too smooth. Dates look awkward, letter O misaligned, too many questions...
I don't trust buying valuable coins or metals online.

OP1 year agoseller locations are sometimes misleading such as the seller is from the US but item is shipped from china, viet nam, phillipines or other countries in se asia

OP1 year agocheck 600 plus listings, over 500 are audio cassettes....and I am not an experienced coin seller and I made my purchase over 2 years ago. Just a small time buyer in coins that learns alot daily.
