usps not scanning packages
Summary: sc-171819 expressed concern about a package they purchased that hasn't been scanned by USPS since the label was created. Multiple participants responded, suggesting that it might not have been physically shipped yet or will be scanned at a later hub. 44012 and others explained that it's common for packages not to be scanned until they reach a major processing center and that weekend shipments may cause delays. mudshark61369 advised checking the seller's handling time and delivery estimates. Discussion included mention of the recent changes at USPS and the potential impact of RTO (Regional Transportation Optimization) on scanning practices. kathiec questioned the necessity of tracking scans, suggesting they don't expedite delivery.
So we got an issue going on I but a few things off eBay one was shipped friday. I know it was shipped I got confirmation by the seller. It just label created usps wating. There been no scans on it anywhere is this normal if don’t see any scans on. Later today I think may give my brother in law Greg who works the usps package distribution center in Nashua New Hampshire a call see if sees a internal scan on

·1 week agoThis is very likely due to RTO (Regional Transportation Optimization) being active at the seller's location. I have the unfortunate circumstance of living somewhere where RTO is active, and it's been in effect for about three months. They're rolling it out sort of haphazardly nationwide, but have been picking up speed this year. In an area where RTO is active, there is NO same-day processing of packages, because the destination post offices no longer have an outgoing mail shipment to a processing/sorting center. Instead all mail received that day goes out the next morning after the shipment of incoming mail is received, by going back on that now empty truck.
Now that RTO is active at my post office, their use of acceptance scans is even more spurious than before, but even an acceptance scan doesn't mean the package is going anywhere yet. I shipped a package recently that didn't get any acceptance scans, or even local processing center scans, they didn't scan it until it got to the regional hub. Why? I have no idea. It's too early to worry.

·1 week agoMost of my shipments get their first scan at Nashua, even if the scan claims it was an Acceptance Scan at my PO.
Weekend scans have been totally inconsistent. The past few weeks none of the items I mailed on Friday were scanned until Tuesday.
This week most of my Friday items were scanned on Friday and a remaining item was scanned today (Sunday).
Often one of a group of packages shipped the same day will not be scanned until it moves halfway across the country.
IMO it is inappropriate to even view the tracking until you have waited until the start of the estimated delivery period, There is nothing useful you can do with the information.

·1 week agoI'm curious why a scan is so important you'd go to the trouble of contacting an inside source to see if it exists? Scans won't make the package get to you any faster, nor will the lack of scans affect your ability to open an item not received case.

·1 week agoIt's been a few months since the change I think but the USPS is generally not scanning labels (or even postmarking stamps) at the dropoff office, it's done at the first major hub. Sellers can still walk it in and ask at the counter but we can't all do this all the time. That first hub scan can be a day or two.
Also, it is the weekend, and this only shipped on Friday. Be aware that ebay marks something as "shipped" when a label is created or is marked as shipped by the seller.
If you need something FAST you need to buy local.

·1 week ago@sc-171819 ,
We can probably give you better information if you post the ebay item number for the listing. To get that number go to your Purchase history click on the Order details and look under the item's title for the ebay item number which is 12 digits long without hyphens.
In the order details there should also be an Estimated delivery date the item is supposed to arrive by. On the listing itself there is a line in the right hand column Shipping: cost-service and under it a See details button. If you click on it, the seller may have posted their Handling time frame. Example: Shipping: US $9.99 USPS Ground Advantage®. See details
As others have written; If you bought the item on Friday and they had a "will usually ship within 1 day of payment clearing" handling time, they would not have to get the item into to the USPS' hands until Monday 10/05.

·1 week agoWhen people buy something from me on a Friday, I will often prep the package with the label but will not get it to the post office until Monday. When I create the label on the Friday it always says "shipped". Further examination will find it saying something like the post office is awaiting the package.
From what you describe all that is perfectly normal.

·1 week ago · EditedThe seller may have printed the label and not actually have shipped it yet.
Or, the package was shipped, put in a bin at USPS and it has not been scanned in yet.
If you purchased on Friday keep in mind the sellers handling time as it is only Sunday and weekends do not count as far as handling time.
Also, if it is an ESE envelope with trading cards, coins etc....it may not pick up tracking at all or very limited tracking thru the route until delivery, and sometimes that is incorrect.
Ground advantage shipments ave more reliable tracking updates in my opinion.

·1 week ago · EditedYou mean the seller didn't have the item receive a USPS Acceptance scan before he put it in the bin. Sellers should always get a Kiosk Acceptance scan before dropping sales items in a bin, or wait in line to get one from a clerk. Never drop off a package, even if some [lazy] postage workers say to the line, "is anyone one just dropping off?" What if Best Buy simply waited for a scan at a distribution center for a stove------it's like where is my stove that I just paid a grand for and I cannot cook with the one in the kitchen right now.
