USPS delivered the package at the wrong address, and now seller is acting sketchy
I recently bought a camera body. The package showed as delivered, but I didn’t receive it, I went to my local USPS office to request the gps data for when the package is scanned as delivered and it’s nowhere near my address even though the address associated with the tracking number is my address. I asked for the clerk if he can give me a formal letter stating the gps data is nowhere near the delivery address but he told me he can’t do that only his supervisor can, however his supervisor is not in office today. I did get to take a photo of the printed delivery gps location, would that be enough for eBay to refund me?
I would also like to add that the seller replied with “Yes, of course, I’ll come and take care of it. Please don’t open a request on eBay. If necessary, I can send a refund via PayPal or Zelle.†when I showed him the gps data. This sounds very fishy, however I don’t see how this can be a scam since the mail does have my address on it so it couldn’t be a zip code scam, help needed. Thanks.
UPDATE, when I filed for item not recieved on eBay, the seller messaged me “thanks†which I’m extremely confused about, and also slightly concerned?
UPDATE, the post office is now saying there might be multiple packages with the same tracking number, and the delivery man doesn’t recall the package he delivered had my address on it. And apparently they don’t even have a photo of the package that was supposedly mine. They said they’re investigating the situation, and if they can’t figure out what’s going on they’ll provide me with a statement.

In my opinion, NO you cannot trust that information because, those reps work for a contracted 3rd party phone/chat customer service company and are not real ebay employees. They receive a playbook they use to respond to problems with, which doesn't cover every issue a buyer may run into. eBay should stick by their Signature Requirement policy, but they may not because of the delivered scan.
Hopefully, you read this reply before returning to the P.O. today and follow the instructions below.
When you to go to your P.O., You need to bring a copy of your order details page which shows your address and the tracking number with you. If you bought using a phone or tablet, you can bring that to show the clerk the order details.
You want to ask the clerk to check the label address against yours on the order details page, and also to check the Package type/size/weight info to see if was is appropriate for what you should have received. You might have to look up the Mfr.'s info/specifications about the camera body for its weight and measurements.
If the info does not match up, you ask the clerk or Postmaster to write a note on USPS stationary saying in general that the shipping label's address was not the same as the one on your ebay Order Details page, and if applicable that the package type/size/weight was not right for what you should have received. Do not ask them to write specific address or package info, they cannot give it out. Have the clerk or Postmaster print their name then sign and date the note.
Since you seem to have not yet filed an Item Not Received (INR) dispute yet, When you file an initial dispute It will appear just above your purchase history. It will be closed in favor of the seller, because ebay's initial automated system only searches a tracking number for a Delivered scan. In the message you receive telling you that, there should be an Appeal button. You have 30 days from losing the dispute to appeal,
Once you have the note, you can use the Appeal button in the message you received turning down your original dispute. You can write out what happened briefly, and post a CLEAR photo or a scan of the note to the appeal. That should be enough to overturn the original decision and start the refund on its way.

OP2 years agoThank u for the instructions, I did go to my post office yesterday and the problem is that on the printed product tracking report they showed me, my address was indeed on there, however the gps location at the time of delivery is a few blocks away. I did ask the clerk if he’s able to write me a formal letter confirming that the gps location was in fact wrong at the time of delivery, but he told me he can’t do that and said his supervisor might be able to, whom isn’t in office yesterday. I intend to go back to my post office today ofc, do you have any suggestions on what I should say to their supervisor if they claim they can’t write a formal letter confirming the gps location?

·2 years agoThat's because your seller is confident you will lose the INR refund request @lynnchenya as we've been seeing reports eBay overlooks the $750 signature requirement, making their decision instead solely on tracking showing Delivered.

·2 years agoOK good @lynnchenya you are closer to understanding the scam.
The USPS will continue to show your address for that tracking number, because that's the address specified when the label was purchased.
But when the package (which does not have your camera body inside) went out for delivery, your address on the label had been physically replaced with the GPS address instead, which the seller had forged on the label.
That's why your seller is so willing to pretend that they will Velma you the refund, to deceive you not to open a case.

I think you need to go back to the Post Office and speak with the supervisor. Just so you know, if you file a claim with eBay, and there is tracking showing "delivered" of something to somewhere, you are going to lose. The eBay system is automated, and they are not going to check up on anything. You can read this to get an idea of what your next steps should be once you get better documentation.

·2 years agoIf it was over $750, the seller has to ship with signature confirmation to be coverd.
If you file an INR, you should be ok, since they didn't get SC.

Did your post master provide you with a photo of the label? Otherwise how do you know it has YOUR address and not that of your local library or gas station?

OP2 years agoThey printed out the product tracking and reporting page, so no it was not a picture of the label. However on the tracking and reporting page it does indeed say my address on it

Thanks for that info. Sounds like it may be a matter of "misdelivery" by the Post Office. I would still go back and check with the supervisor or Post Master. They may be able to recover the parcel after all, which would be a good thing for all involved. If it is mis-delivered, the document you receive attesting to that may even help your seller collect on the insurance if the package can not be retrieved.
Since we cannot see what your purchased, we can only speculate on the seller's situation at this point. For example, if they are NEW and subjected to payment holds, they can't use that money to refund you anyway. They will have to fund the whole refund on their own first from their own bank account or card, which is often problematic if they just paid their mortgage or bought groceries.
I would advise you at this point NOT to accept a payment outside of the eBay process, and as stated before, you are going to lose any eBay claim for "item not received" at this point anyway. You have time yet. Unlike the forums here, there will be extra steps to actually get to the seller's feedback page from a listing. Here if I click on the (1) next to your name it goes directly to the right page. If they are new or a returning seller you can use this link, type in their name and get to the right place:

You can get an idea as to their overall selling behavior. If there are lots of feedback be sure to choose "most recent" and actually READ any negative reviews.

·2 years agoAre you saying the package had the correct address, but USPS delivered it to the wrong address?
If so, you need to work with USPS and see if they can get the package back.

OP2 years agoYes, USPS told me they would try to retrieve it, but that often doesn’t work so I don’t put too much hope into it. Though knowing what happened to the package did ease my mind a bit, now that the seller asked me to not open a ticket with eBay and would refund me through PayPal or zelle I’m nervous again.
