Used Shark robot vacuum
I bought a used Shark vacuum. It was sent as a housewarming gift. The receiver of the gift said it was making a noise. It was opened and it was filled with what appeared to be animal hair. It was cleaned out and now it works. I contacted buyer with a photo of the hair and expressed my embarrassment. I got an apology but feel as though I should be refunded, maybe 20%? Or should I let it go?

·3 years agoWow, that feedback left makes you look far worse than the seller. It also seems at odds with your original post, in which you stated the vacuum was making a noise not that it wasn't working. As for your embarrassment, it seems it was more likely a result of it being discovered you gifted a used item than the discovery a used vacuum was dirty inside.

·3 years agoA used vacuum should be expected to have some dust or dirt inside. For a gift, I would have purchased only new. No, you should not get a discount for a used item being used.

Yeah, it should have been cleaned before listing … but leaving the seller bad feedback for your embarrassment was totally out of line IMO.
And ‘no’ … I do NOT think you are owed money. ðŸ˜
I also think you should offer to revise the feedback.

Because it was a used item, you should have had it sent to your own home first, so you could examine it to be sure it was clean and in good working order before giving it as a gift.
Happily, it works after a bit of a clean-out, so all is well.

·3 years agoPeople buying used items then being shocked the item is used.....wow what a revelation. The seller is not at fault. If it was that full of dog hair the photos would have showed it, and if it is bagless you would see the bin is dirty. You should expect a used vacuum to be filthy by default, it is what they are designed to do after all. I would be more embarrassed you gave a friend or family member a used gift and just passed it onto them without checking it out first and making sure it's good and clean. "Hey here's a new microwave I got you, oh don't mind the food stains and baked on cheese"

·3 years agoYou gave a used gift as a housewarming present and you did not check to see if the item was clean? No, leave the seller alone. Sure he should have cleaned it before he listed it. But too late now. You failed to inspect the item properly. That was the moment for you to open an item not as described case. Too late. In the future, inspect whatever you buy to give as a gift. Even a new item could have been used by a customer and returned to a store and be put back on the shelf. Leave the seller alone.

·3 years agoI think it's perhaps unreasonable to expect a used vacuum to be pristine on the inside. And if I were going to give a used vacuum as a gift I would certainly open it up and clean it out myself before gifting. Personally, I think the seller owes you nothing.
