Unable to Report Seller
I made an offer for an item and the seller countered and then asked that we communicate directly via email so we could discuss the details of the price and shipping, etc., essentially taking the transaction off ebay. I paid for the item via PayPal and now have a problem with the product.
I attempted to report the seller using https://www.ebay.com/help/action?topicid=4022 but keep getting the following error message. It's the same on various browsers and on different days. It seems to be broken.
Any advice?

If that message is still in your eBay messages, you can report it right on the message page under the ACTION tab. How exactly was the 'contact information' transmitted in the message?
However, since you apparently went along with it, you may be incriminating yourself as well.

·2 years agoAll my transactions take place on ebay and yet I have come across this issue twice in the past few months with the same information in red. Ebay is doing nothing to fix this issue.
If it helps you have to contact the actual customer services department through the ebay assistance screen and request a call back, but whether they actually take any action against the seller while sympathising with you over the phone is another issue.
Sellers are getting away with murder on ebay and the longer they've been selling the more options they are aware of to get away with it. So now 'some' think they are Gods with better mental health statuses than buyers and can blatantly use our souls and personal details to dodge ebay costs right in our face and we can't even report them for some line error that has spanned the majority of 2023.
There are some dodgy buyers out there as well so don't go misunderstanding me for some buyer vs seller madness. I'm just saying that Ebay buyer protection is kind of dumb when you can't report a seller unless you've lost money. If they've broken ebay rules to cheat you out of an auction so they can re-list the item for free using you as the excuse there's no protection they get their lollipop taken off them while we are not able to report them to protect their misleading 100% feedback status for over 10 years. It's disgusting Ebay.

·2 years agoI'm sorry you're being attacked like this. It's shameful that people are getting so hostile instead of reading what you actually wrote* AND instead of addressing the question about a problem** that MANY of us are encountering.
* You NEVER say you took things off of eBay. You merely - CLEARLY - state that YOU completed the sale via PayPal. This is how MANY of us pay for eBay items. (Hmmm, I have a recollection that PayPal was the ONLY way to pay for eBay items for years. I think?)
** MANY people have been reporting this same error. I've reported it many times.
I'm glad you seem to have a thick skin & that you see right through people who get hostile toward someone reporting a technical error. Still... Sheesh. Some human primates can be such ___-_____.

·2 years agoYeah. I read this whole thread because I was having the same issue and all I could see was the person who reported the link getting bullied and threatened. I want to add that this was the only link visible on Google about the issue as well so shame to anyone who can't see that someone is trying to report a broken link for the sake of ALL EBAYERS - that is STILL BROKEN as of this very present moment in time.
Thanks for reporting it mate, the first time it happened I thought it was my computer but this time around I definitely know it's ebay blocking the link because of way too many complaints about seller behaviour that they don't want to address. Buyers put money into ebay so that sellers can pay their ebay costs with it so a high volume of complaints will substantially affect Ebays income.
Fair enough taking transactions out of ebay is not permitted by Ebay - you still have Trading Standards in that case or Citizens Advice no matter who they are if they're selling something they got to answer to someone, even if it is HMRC. So know your rights and ignore other ebayers turning a blind eye to your misfortune. Personally I keep my transactions on ebay, but if it says 'cash on collection' for a wardrobe then even Ebay themselves allow people to take the transaction out of ebay if the item is big enough so Potato Potato.

Maybe so but I don't care about that. I looked up this issue on Google and this was the only link available about the problem so I clicked on it for more information.
I've never used this community or site or ever even heard of it before, but I was able to log into it with my same ebay account and I did so to update this thread until it is closed. If you are lucky enough for the seller to re-list an item or for it to still be available the only working way to report them is through the report item thread but you get no feedback, just confirmation in your inbox.
I'm not starting a new thread Im going to get a representative from Ebay to telephone me and will report it over the phone. If you've been on this site for a while/long enough to bully someone reporting the broken link for whatever flaws you can see in their issue - then you can remain on this site and open up a new one instead of scrutinising anyone who comes here for the first time in a state of distress. The link is still broken, and this thread is 'so old' but still clearly has people ready to pounce on the 'latest' reply.
I just came back to add that the report item link still works but in that brief amount of time I was away someone managed to comment on what I wrote, so old or not this thread is still very much 'active' and the only link on Google addressing the issue so that people know it's an ebay fault and nothing to do with their device. If anyone else has succumbed to peer pressure on here and opened up a new thread - God Knows - but this one can be found on Google so I'mo cash my chips in on this one as this is the one that helped me realise, whatever people think about the person who started the Thread. Thanks all the same.

OP3 years agoI'm trying to let ebay know that their reporting system is broken. But mostly I'm just getting finger wagging and pearl clutching.
Carry on.

·3 years agoPosting on a member-to-member forum hardly seems the best way to let eBay know about a technical issue. It's kind of like posting on NextDoor that your house is on fire. And the point everyone is making is that it doesn't matter that you can't get the reporting system to work, because you have nothing to report. But if you're compelled to report the issue for the good of all mankind, I suggest you do so on the Technical Issues forum.
Carry on.

·2 years agoWow.
Thanks for the information but I clicked on this link and there appears to be 1157 - yes One Thousand, One Hundred and Fifty Seven -
Pages of technical issues to be dealt with - and the report seller link being broken was not on the first page. don't know who has time to click through all those pages but this is an important issue for people being mistreated on ebay.
I don't want to report the issue for the good of mankind I want someone to deal with the seller using my personal details in my face for malicious gain under Ebay's 'Malicious Sellers Protection Scheme' while talking to me like I'm some wimp with Mental Health Issues before I feel the need to do something about it myself and end up on the 10 O'Clock news, which is after the Watershed. The Journalist can report 1157 broken bones.

That's our secret handshake here at the eBay Ethics meetings. 😉

·3 years agoEbay already warns everybody to deal ONLY in the ebay system. So no need to warn anyone. You have 0 Ebay protection. If you used paypal, open an item NOT as described case but if you paid with FRIENDS and Family option, you do NOT have buyer protection. You are ONLY supposed to use friends and family to send money to friends and family. If you used it to buy something you committed fraud and you screwed Paypal out of their fees and you screwed yourself in the process.
Sometimes, if you are the buyer and used friends and family and were defrauded, the credit card company MIGHT give you a refund. if you do a chargeback. My son was reimbursed last year on a Facebook transaction. It was about 15 dollars.
You can't name that seller here either. You can't shame another seller even if it's true. Hopefully you did not lose too much money. You can report the seller to paypal that he requested FRIENDS AND FAMILY as payment and that he defrauded you. A few of those reports and he will be suspended from paypal. But paypal will know that you lied and paid used friends and family. Anyway, soon paypal is going to charge a fee on the friends and family transactions too since so many folks are abusing it. I don't know when that is going to start.
In the future, whatever you buy, deal within the ebay system.

·3 years agoYour problem is a perfect example of what happens when you (both buyer and seller) take the transaction off site.
Ebay can't help you because you didn't buy it through ebay. Unfortunately, you are SOL.
idahospud22
OP3 years agoEbay isn't rejecting my report because I didn't complete the transaction on platform - the web page is broken. The seller removed the listing because of a "listing error." I am attempting to report him to protect future buyers - I'm not asking for help with the transaction.

Try this link. It seems to be not broken. >> Online Customer Service - Report an issue with a seller (ebay.com)

·3 years agoYou took the transaction off eBay so as far as eBay is concerned, you were never in a transaction with the seller. Therefore, you have nothing to report to eBay.
You cannot get eBay to help with a transaction, or with a seller, or take a report, or say boo, because you took eBay out of the equation.
That meant eBay collected no fees, had no control over the sale or the seller, or was in any way involved, so there's nothing for you to say to eBay or for eBay to say to you.

·3 years agoIf they ended the listing it can still be reported. If the listing was removed from the platform the seller didn't do that eBay did.
maxine*j
·3 years agoReported on what basis? The listing ended because the seller and the OP did an off-eBay deal. Now the OP wants to report the seller because the off-eBay deal didn't work out to OP's liking and OP wants to "protect future buyers" from the seller. Take eBay out of the transaction and then later demand that eBay do something to make the unhappy buyer happy? Come again?

@idahospud22
Next time you get a member trying to take the transaction/communication off eBay, you can report it right on the eBay message. It is found under the "Action" tab. If using a computer, those buttons are right across the top of the screen.
If you paid the seller directly with PayPal instead of using eBay checkout, that is not a good thing. Perhaps you can file your claim directly with PayPal?
albertabrightalberta
·3 years agoThe page isn't broken.
The "error" message you received is the message one receives when they can't report a problem and there's no transaction or problem to report.
What you aren't understanding is that you were as much in violation as the seller was. Neither you nor the seller are supposed to complete a purchase or sale off-site.

·3 years agoFirst what is the problem with the item?
If it's not as described, file a not as described case. If it never arrived, file a never received the item case.
If it's not one of those, come back here and explain so we can help.
