Unable to buy
I am unable to figure out why I am unable to buy anything. I had an account for years with 100% good feedback, and bought and sold under a different account name. This was 15 years ago by the way. Over the years, everything changed, and I ended up just starting a new account, lost my (very old) history, and started a new account about 3 years ago. Still no activity, on new account, but just had not bought anything. So now I am trying to buy something, and I have updated my account, added my phone for security, added a different credit card (in case the card was the problem), and updated email, verified it, etc. Only wierd thing is I had logged in a few times using my Google account, instead of my password. This is my last try to keep this account. If I can't get to work,, I will try deleting the account again and starting over, but I feel I am missing something. It should not be this hard to buy something.
Thanks for any input.

I too an glad you found a solution. I still recommend not using the Google Account login method, since using it adds tons of tracking cookies to your device(s) which can cause slow downs or site interference, as well as lots of unwanted messages.

OP3 years agoI agree. I have learned something, and will not be doing the "convenient" thing again by using Google to sign in just because it pops up.
Thanks

If you closed or let your old account lapse, before creating this one, you are now considered a new member. Because of that you have limits on how much you can spend or how many items you can purchase at one time. There is info about the limits in the link below.

"I had logged in a few times using my Google account, instead of my password. This is my last try to keep this account".
You have successfully logged into ebay, otherwise you would not have reached the community boards. Unless you want Google poking its nose into every thing you do, and messing up your searches as well as leaving tracking cookies all over your device. Only login to ebay using your username and password. I suggest that you clear your temporary internet files and cookie cache and restarting your device.

OP3 years agoThanks, I will try that. I have not met any of the criteria outlined in the link you sent. I bet it's related to the Google sign-in. I had a similar experience on Patreon. Thanks for your response.

It is possible that that sign in has created another eBay account, which may not have been set up entirely. Check to make sure you have valid contact details and payment methods set up in whichever account you are currently using.
Are you attempting to make a purchase, a bid, or an offer?
That error message seems to be associated mostly with problems making offers, particularly offers to accounts that are no longer registered. If you are making an offer, see here:

Otherwise, if possible try making a purchase using the eBay app or using a mobile browser and see if that either works or generates a different error message.

OP3 years agoYes, it is related to an offer, and I was made a counter and am trying to accept the counter offer. Thanks for responding. I am looking through the link. Hopefully this will be it!

Right clicking to open the "make offer" link in a new browser tab can get around that error is some cases.

OP3 years agoI appreciate all of these answers. I tried to right click on the offer and put in new window, but it did not help. I finally decided I would just cancel this account and start over. When I got to the cancel page, there was an email link to support, which I had not been able to find before. So I sent email describing problem, and they rest something on my account, and now it seems to be fixed. I ordered the item without issue.
Thanks for all the suggestions, they led me to a fix!

·3 years agoYou are very welcome -- glad to hear you were able to get things sorted out, though I am sorry you had to go through all that just to make a purchase. It is a shame that you have to reach the point of wanting to close your account before you get an email contact that can provide actual help.
