Too many ads these days.
Can I make some of the useless ads on my eBay homepage just go away?
For instance, this week there's a large banner for “National Coin Week 2026” (NOT interested!)
… And “Ready to resell?” (Never! I buy to keep, not to resell!)
… And “eBay Live” (NO!)
There should be a "Hide" or "Not interested" option for all of these!

·4 months agoAll the Ebay adds showing up everywhere is annoying to me. That's just me. But if they're annoying to me, they're annoying to others as well.

It is rather garish and very unattractive.

·4 months agoThe least eBay could do was warn you when these live event ads start and when they will end. In the interim, you can shop on another, less-polluted site and eBay can explain to their shareholders why they lose profits everytime they do one of these events.

You can if you use a desktop browser that allows an ad blocker with custom rules.
Though it is probably easier to just use a different eBay page as a landing page and skip the eBay main page entirely.

·4 months agoThey show up in my personal email mailbox as unsolicited SPAM, and they include all kinds of ugly flashing emojis which hurt my eyes and brain.

Most email providers offer a way to filter messages by sender or content and have certain messages skip your inbox entirely. Perhaps you could have some or all of your eBay messages sent to another folder where you can more easily sort or ignore them.
Or you could give eBay a different email address entirely, so messages from eBay go somewhere else.

·4 months ago@eburtonlab Thanks for the tips. I am using an iPad and I am rather computer illiterate - I grew up in the age of pencils, pens and papers - so I haven't found any way to delete just the live event SPAM.
I like receiving emails from eBay, even the silly ones asking me how I am enjoying the item I bought a month ago. I did try deleting all correspondence from eBay on my preferences screen, but the live event emails keep coming. They don't show up in my eBay messages folder.
I delete them as soon as they show up now ... total SPAM from eBay.

There's usually a link at the bottom of the email to unsubscribe, and it usually applies to only that particular type of email, not all emails from eBay.

·4 months agoTried that first ... that's what led me to my preferences page. I could not determine what feature I should delete under communications, so I deleted them all. SPAM emails keep coming ☹️

Changes to your communication preferences may not work instantaneously; there may still be some messages in the pipeline even after the spigot has been shut off.

·4 months agoThose ads don't look like a business you would purchase anything expensive from. Maybe a roll of circulated wheat pennies but any investment grade coins, I don't think so.

·4 months agoI have a pretty easy fix for this assault on my senses. I have just started looking elsewhere for any items that are not on my saved searches list and don't show up on my Email when I check it.
There are workarounds like setting ones default page to a different page where one doesn't have to deal with them. I like to go in the front door to my homepage as a buyer.
I check back now and then to see if those snake oil ads are still prominent on my homepage and hit the back button if they are. They seem to come and go.
It may just me being overly sensitive to the ads. but life is short and I try to minimize unpleasantness to the best of my ability. There's enough out there I can't avoid without asking for it by searching on eBay for items I can find elsewhere.........................

OP4 months agoHow do I change my default landing page to, say, my Summary page or my Purchases page?
I didn't see an option for that.

·4 months agoYou do it in your browser by saving a bookmark. eBay doesn't have that option directly, to my knowledge.

No site, eBay or anything else, is ever going to make ads optional. The last thing they want is for people to opt out of seeing any of them. Personally I never go to the homepage. My default page to enter eBay is the My eBay Summary page.
