Time taken for ebay to refund from clear scammer activity is intolerable
So I purchased an item for £186 on the 23rd. Got the message item posted on the 28th. Already I'm annoyed at the delay. I see he's had some feedback in the meantime for what the seller appears to be repeating. Obtaining a postage label but never posting. I wait and no Royal mail acknowledgement they've received the tracked item.
I wait to the first day I can report item not received; the 4th Feb. He responds on the same day with this nonsense ' Hello, I apologise for the delay. I haven’t been on the office due to a ski injury, I’m due to make a return Friday when the coin can be sent if that suits or I can cancel the order. '
I respond the same day querying how his claim he was injured but still created a postage label indicates he was lying. I said I wanted an immediate refund.
Two days later no response. No refund yet ebay says on the resolution page they won't do anything till the 10th Feb.
This is not acceptable. The guy is clearly a scammer. There appears to be no way I can contact ebay and request they resolve this issue before then.

·7 months agoSpeaking of an inability to read, you should have noticed that not one person who has responded to your post has had one shred of sympathy that you have to follow the rules, just like all the other mere mortals. So I fail to understand what you hope to accomplish by continuing to complain. No one here can help you, and eBay won't beyond the framework of the MBG. It's called reality. Or don't you Brits have that?

·7 months agoI have always said, if you are a buyer purchasing on line, you'd better know how to do returns and get refunds on each platform...there is no, "do it the way I want, when I want". Need to follow the proper steps...still no idea if the OP is doing that
objects-of-intrigue
OP7 months agoThere is no way of contacting ebay to resolve the case on the resolution page. That's a 'feature' of the platform. A feature that means customers can't complain directly to them which would mean they'd have to employ people. Clearly this is too much for you to grasp.
There was no injury clearly. The seller is a scammer. If he wasn't he'd have refunded me on the fourth when I requested one. 3 days later no sign of one. He's kept my money.
I engaged with the seller yes. 100%. I wanted my money back. Again I shouldn't have to wait 18 days after a purchase to receive my money back on an item not even close to being posted to me. Would you tolerate that from a physical store. No of course you wouldn't.
kathiec
·7 months agoComparing an online transaction to a physical store is a flawed analogy. With a physical store you have the item in hand when you give them your money. All online venues, not just eBay, have procedures for resolving issues of items not arriving or not being as described. If you think that you shouldn't be subjected to those procedures because your case is obviously special then perhaps you'd be better off shopping at one of those physical stores.
As for your contention that "eBay is dying", that's been a staple of disgruntled members for the entirety of the 29 years I've been a member. I go back to the days when eBay provided virtually no buyer protection. And yet they're still here and growing.

·7 months agoAfter you opened the item not received case, if no response in 4 days, why not just return to the case and ask eBay to step in?
There is absolutely no eBay requirement that a buyer engage in back and forth conversation with a seller in this situation. There was no reason or need to query the seller about his injury.
If the 10th is the first day you can return to the case, per eBay, why not just wait til then and do so? eBay WILL resolve this issue per the terms of the INR case.
Please read or review the MBG.

·7 months agoBased on what you’ve described, this follows the item not received process exactly, even though the seller’s explanation sounds questionable. Once you’ve opened the INR case, eBay won’t step in until the stated date (10 Feb) to give the seller a final chance to respond or refund. As frustrating as it is, this is standard procedure and doesn’t mean eBay is siding with the seller. If there’s still no valid tracking showing Royal Mail acceptance by that date, you’ll be able to ask eBay to step in and you should be covered for a refund. For now, keep all communication within the case and avoid closing it early.

OP7 months agoIf the seller admits never sending the item I should get an immediate refund. I should have got it days ago. It's as simple as that. I don't understand the confusion. The fact ebay don't allow me to email them about the situation is clearly deliberate ebay policy.

·7 months agoHi @habibwahab
If you simply cannot wait to see what eBay will do on the 10th … you can contact your credit card company and request a chargeback immediately. You have choices.
objects-of-intrigue
OP7 months agoI don't pay with credit card. I pay with my own money. I don't believe in debt. As for your ludicrous notion I should have to wait over 18 days for a refund for an item the seller admits never to have sent me in the first place, then that must be a reflection on your poor standards because it certainly isn't mine. Just maybe that's why ebay is dying. Their policies are negligent and grossly offensive. All IMHO. Frankly my confidence in the platform's integrity is now shattered.
The seller admitted on the 4th he never sent the product. I asked him for an immediate refund. He has not responded. I purchased the item 15 days ago. Ebay are making me wait 3 more days totalling 18 days till they make an adjudication on an item never sent. It wasn't lost. It was never sent! This is scandalous.
soh.maryl
·6 months agoAn intrigued by your statement that you "pay with your own money. What does that mean, exactly?
house*of*paws
·6 months agoI don’t believe in debt either @objects-of-intrigue . I pay off my credit card (singular) in 30 days and avoid interest. I also avoid having to wait 18 days for whatever reason, since I have a way of getting my money back quickly IF I need to.
My ludicrous notion? Where have I said that? You’ve made it up. Talk about lies and lack of integrity! 🙄
soh.maryl
·6 months agoMore than one person here has clearly outlined how you need to proceed.
You may think you should get an immediate refund when the seller admits not having shipped, but that's not the way it works and we have to go along with eBay's way of handling things.
Yes, it is a "deliberate eBay policy".

OP7 months agoThe seller admitted he never posted. What tosh.
soh.maryl
·7 months agoThere was an estimated delivery date in the listing when you made your purchase.
Once that day has passed without your having received your item, you can open an item not received case the following day.
You are not required to engage with the seller. Once the case has been open 3 days without response or resolution, you can return to the case and request that eBay step in.
So, exactly what have you done so far? Is there evidence, via tracking, that it is moving through the system?
More importantly, have you read eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers?
objects-of-intrigue
OP7 months agoThere has never been any tracking because he never actually posted. The previous purchaser from him experienced the same issue. My issue is with the time ebay is taking to resolve. The seller has responded as I put in my message. It is my understanding that means I have to wait till the 10th feb for ebay to step in. That's what it says on the resolution page. This is ridiculously long.
kensgiftshop
·7 months agoThere's certain steps to go through.
They give seller a few days to provide tracking that shows is was delivered or refund.
soh.maryl
·7 months agoAgain, there was an estimated date of delivery in the listing when you made your purchase. Evidently you felt that EDD would work, or else you wouldn't have made the purchase, correct?
If/when the item did not arrive by that date, you, the buyer could have opened an item not received case the day after that. eBay gives the seller 3 days to respond. eBay makes this all very clear in the MBG. It does not actually take long and there is no requirement that you actually contact the seller.
"This is ridiculously long." What was the last EDD? When did you open the INR case, if you did so?
Have you read the MBG?
objects-of-intrigue
OP7 months agoIf you had the ability to read you'd have noticed I opened a not delivered case on the first day I could. Is this an American thing. Can none of you guys read English anymore? This is getting hilarious.
soh.maryl
·6 months agoIf you followed the procedure outlined in the MBG, and opened the case on the first day you could, then the seller had 3 days to respond.
On day #4, if no response, you then could have returned to the case and requested eBay to step in, which they would have done and they would've refunded you from the seller's funds.
Surprising that the process would take 18 days unless you are counting from the date you placed your order.
In any event, sorry you had such an unpleasant experience.
BTW, I do have the ability to read.
