Time Remaining on Auction Page and Bid History Page vary by near 4 minutes.
I was watching a auction and noticed there were two different ending times. One on the Auction Page and one on the Bid History page. I put both screens besides each other and did a screen shot showing the time remaining on each screen as well as my computer time. There is a near 4 minuet difference in the ending times for the same item. After the one on the right ended I clicked on the Place Bid button for the one on the left. Screen popped up "Item sold on Wed, Aug 6 at 8:54 PM."
I heard of this before that the time remaining may be off a second or so. But not for near 4 minutes. That is a big gap. If you were going to snipe, you never had chance if you Bid from the wrong screen.

I have seen the same thing, and my computer is synced properly to ebay and atomic clock time. I've found that on average I lose from 10-15 seconds a minute even more if I leave the page open for more than 5 minutes. . Refreshing the bid history page every now and then brings the time back into sync, but after a short while it starts lagging. I've posted about it on the tech issues board, but never received a reply.

OP1 year agoThe pages were refreshed several times while I was trying to get a good screen shot of both locations at the same time. They both continued to decrease in time remaining while still showing the disparity. I tried to bid from the Bid History page after the Auction page ended. At this time even though over two minutes remained, then it showed the listing ended.
I was not looking to buy the item. It just caught my attention because people have complained about Auctions ending early. I just wanted to show, that yes it is entirely possible for the Timer to be off. I don't so much use a clock to post a bid, I use their timer that is posted above Place Bid.

The countdown on the Bid History page definitely seems to work differently than the countdown on the item listing itself, and over time the two counts will diverge, with the bid history showing additional time -- even after the auction has actually ended.
For folks experiencing problems, I suggest several things:
1) Check to make sure your device's clock is set to the right time and time zone using an internet time server such as https://time.is/
2) Set your device's time to be synchronized automatically to prevent it from diverging from the actual time.
3) Bid from the item listing page directly rather than from the Bid History page.
4) If you must use the Bid History page, refresh the page periodically to reset the countdown and compare it to the countdown on the item page, which seems to be more accurate if the device's time is correct.
5) For critical bids, consider using a snipe service. If you bid manually, submit your bid a little earlier than you normally would just to be sure you can submit it successfully if you run into any issues or if you are prompted for a payment method or any other kind of authorization.

The bid history page timer is the same as the item page timer when you first open it, but it will fall further behind the longer you have it open,
Only go by the timer on the item listing page, it is correct.

For best results, make sure you device's clock is set to be synchronized automatically to an internet time server.
If you keep the item listing or bid window open for a long period of time, try refreshing the page near the end of the auction before you place your bid.

·1 year agoBut both screens indicate the auction ended at 9:54. Use an atomic clock so network latency doesn't cause you to lose the bid. jmho
