The sellers I love....
Gosh, I sure do love sellers who can't be bothered to wipe the dust off of an item before shipping it. "As found" actually means, "I'm lazy and just want a quick buck." Some of these indolent sellers even claim they don't have enough time to clean anything even though the kinds of dirty items I received would not have required more than a minute or two to wipe. I know that because I wiped them when I received them. Over the years I received all sorts of dust, dirt, debris , odors, and even a couple of spider webs and dead bugs. Yes, dead bugs. What fun! Unwashed clothing is nice, too. One seller from whom I made a purchase used unwashed (by the odor) bed linens for padding, if you can imagine. Another favorite has to be people who have anything that is meant to 'run' but they say, "I don't know if it works or not." Hahahaha.....is it honestly THAT difficult to find out? I guess maybe 'honestly', or rather 'honesty,' is the key word there. I have, of course, also received some clean, well-packed items from sellers who obviously have some self respect and take pride in what they do. My respect to those sellers, I appreciate them.

·3 years ago@thegoldengrimoire Agreed, I have also received dirty dusty collectible items in the past. Thankfully this is rare but yes it does happen. It is easy to take photos of an item without direct light, or far enough away, that doesn't show the dust accumulated, so not always a matter of 'just don't buy dirty things'. A lazy seller will do anything to get rid of their item and hiding the filth on it in photos is not that difficult at all.
I have received items with actual dirt on them, spider webs attached, and sometimes covered with cat hair. None of those listings I am referring to "looked" in this condition in the photos. Yes, I returned every single item that arrived in such condition and no I don't leave negative FB.
I always just wonder what the house looks like of these sellers. Best of luck to you....

·3 years agoAs a buyer , I don't encounter that problem because I do not bid on dirty dusty items. As a seller, I keep toothpicks, q-tips, rags, alcohol, goo gone and a bottle of water w/ a some dishwashing soap. I will clean my items several times inorder to get a clean item. I have reshot the photos several times when I see a bit of dirt in the edges. If you clean an item, you will get more $$ for it.
Now at the flea market, if the item is dirty and I know that it's valuable and I can clean it, I will actually offer less than what the seller wants and claim that it will take me time to clean the item or I don't know what the condition is after I take that grime off.

eBay policy is that clothing should be laundered/dry cleaned before shipping. Other items should be cleaned as well ... with the possible exception of 'tarnish', which some buyers prefer to deal with themselves.
You are free to open a 'return request' choosing 'Item doesn't match description or photos' if the item is dirty. [Yuck!]

·3 years agoI would say that really depends on the item. There are some types of items I would not clean because I don't know how to do it properly-- say, for instance, an antique doll. A collector would know exactly how to clean something like that, but since I'm not a collector and don't know what to do/have the proper equipment for that, I wouldn't risk trying to clean it and potentially causing damage in the process. I would leave it to the buyer, who would presumably know how to handle it without hurting the item in question.

·3 years agoYou can see by the photos in a listing is something is dusty or dirty or covered in cobwebs. Don't buy it.
If a seller indicates what is being sold is "as found" or "as is" or similar that means it has had no cleaning done to it. Don't buy it.
If you receive unwashed clothing, file an INAD and get your money back because used clothing sold on eBay is supposed to be washed.
If you receive something with dirty packing materials or traces of insect life and that has rendered the item you bought unusable, file an INAD and get your money back. If the item is still usable and you want to keep it and clean it up, do so and leave brief, calm, factual negative feedback for the seller and never buy from that seller again.
When you shop online and buy used goods, you have to be careful, thoughtful, and use discretion. The only person who can really protect you, is you.

I’m pretty sure any item you purchase that arrives in a condition not described in the listing is a good candidate for a NAD return.

I hope you’re returning those filthy bug infested items. I know I would. Because I sure didn’t pay to receive someone else’s filth.
