The Latest Scam
I may be informing (giving a heads up) to the same people I'm trying incriminate with this post, but here I go! I very much wish TO HELP eBay (and myself as a Buyer and Seller) by giving notice to eBay of the latest scams that are occurring with eBay...eBay is not guilty of these, but I wish I can help them stop the madness that I'm sure they're feeling as well. Aside from a major scam that crushed me a year and a half ago (at that time I had been with eBay for literally over twenty years, but that didn't make a difference), now I have been scammed 2 out of the last 3 transactions (one as a seller and one as a buyer).
The latest is, the seller gave me a tracking number for the item I purchased (I later found they had sent a small insignificant package to my town's hospital) and gave that package's tracking number to me. When the hospital received the package, Ebay now sees that I received the package because that's the tracking number given for my purchase. EBay shows I received the package so the rest is on me. I'm only lucky I was able to track "the real package" to the hospital (with a recipient's name, date and time), because I, unlike other eBayers, am able to have access to a UPS System computer. I have documented proof that the "tracked" package was not delivered to me but actually to the hospital. Thus far, I am not a recipient of "eBay's Buyer Protection", because I have "received my item"! It seems I've been scammed again...it's just hard to believe this time as a buyer!

" BTW... I started using this forum about a month ago when I sold an iPhone. The buyer said it didn't work, so he sent it back to me for a refund...which eBay gave him the minute the return label was acknowledged by USPS. The problem was, I didn't get my phone back...I didn't even get a phone. it was some automotive sensor just to fill the return package. I was stuck with that loss, had to pay the eBay advertising fees and return shipping (just to rub salt in my wounds)".
You've thanked people on this topic for suggesting scamming the scammer. However, did you even think of trying what I suggested to you, in the post to the topic about your iPhone situation? It may be too late to do that now, but if you have your documentation you may extract some measure of resolution even if its not monetary.

OP5 months agoI’m sorry I meant the seller noted that he does not accept returns.

1. Did you still get the 2 business days to refund after the "return" was delivered back to you?
2. Because you "had to pay the eBay advertising fees" it sounds like you asked eBay to step in on the return?
3. Was it that report you filed then, which caused the buyer to become unregistered?

If you believe you were scammed, open a INAD or INR case, whatever is appropriate. Ebay's MBG protects you. But you have to open a case first.

·5 months agoNot an Item Not Received. This is the fake tracking scam. All the eBay computer will see is that the tracking says delivered and will automatically rule against the OP.

OP5 months agoNot that I’ve just read all of these fake tracking number scams that have occurred, it sounds like I’m best to go for the “not as described” return idea more than waiting for eBay to deny me my money because of the fake tracking number. What do you think?

Well, if you're OK with trying to get a tracking fraud fixed by defrauding eBay (telling them a lie), go for it. What are you going to tell them you got that doesn't match the description?
I don't know how to actually do this, but the MBG seems like the best idea.

Go to your purchase history and click return item and select, the item doesn't match the description as the reason.
The seller will have 3 days to accept the return and pay return shipping or refund without returning.
If they don't, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in.
Print out what you have from UPS and ship it back to the seller if they accept the return.

OP5 months agoFIRST… Thank you for your response! The buyer did note that he does not accept returns, so even though I have not tried that yet I do believe that because he does not accept returns I am SOL.

OP4 months agoI used your idea and it was successful! I’d like to thank you very much for all your help with this. By the way, in the process of doing it, I saw the genius of doing it this way!

Until Ebay comes up with a way to deal with it, I think this is the best way.
