The EBay money back guarantee is not factual.
How can EBay not honor their money back guarantee when a buyer has concrete PROOF from the USPS that the item ordered was tracked to a different address. I went to my PO and received a full printout of tracking for track number provided by seller. It clearly shows that it was delivered to a different address in the same zip code. Why doesn’t the seller have to provide PROOF that the item was tracked to the correct address. Just saying item delivered means nothing. If I can obtain proof of tracking, the seller can too. But they’re not asked to. WHY NOT?

·2 years agoI've felt that at the very least eBay should at least have additional information when reporting case. Item not received is good case to file, if tracking does not show delivery at expected date. If there is a delivery, then instruct buyer to verify with his carrier if item actually went to proper address and the steps to take in tackling the fake delivery scam. Provide info on item not as described. The flip to all this is that this forum is full of people crying fault when item is not received and having no idea on eBay money back guarantee and what to do. They should at the very least get familiarized of the resources available to them, yet, they just sign up, buy, buy, buy, and then have no idea what to do when something goes wrong. eBay is not a brick-and-mortar store where you can go when something goes wrong with your purchase, eBay does not have the resources to deal with each problem transaction. The system is automated, self-guided by the user. There are no prompts, you are expected to know what to do. Customer service is no existent, the fact that there is phone # to call should say something.

OP2 years agoI agree. No email, no phone. Frustrating. Buyer Beware.

·2 years agoOnce someone has informed eBay that their order was tracked to a different address, eBay should investigate the claim before issuing a decision. eBay is a party to the transaction as well as seller and buyer so I do not know why a shipping service would not provide eBay with the same information. Purchasing the shipping service through eBay and it would seem absolutely they have access to the same information.
It must not be a big enough problem that eBay sees a need to change their procedures.
I wonder how many people are unable to figure out how to appeal the “Final Decisionâ€.

OP2 years agoLOL Once EBay makes a determination there’s no way to reopen the dispute. Believe me, I’ve tried.

·2 years agoReopen the dispute, maybe not.
However there is a way to appeal their decision. I would file a Notice of Dispute through eBay's legal department and provide the documentation that shows their decision was wrong.

OP2 years agoThank you very much. I was unaware there was such a thing.

If the appeal fails, other users have had good results by contacting eBay via social media. The eBay folks that respond via social media know about "false tracking" and apparently have the authority to deal with it.
Good advice for dealing with false tracking can be found in the marked solution to this thread:

You can avoid many fake tracking issues by choosing to only do business with experienced sellers that have a proven track record of delivering similar items as seen by examining the seller's feedback page, and by avoiding inexperienced sellers, sellers with patterns of negative feedback indicating serious problems, or sellers with large gaps in the selling history or recent drastic changes of seller behavior.

You need to reread @kensgiftshop post #5 above and do as he says.
rola_rohd
OP2 years agoDid you try that? Seems to me that can be made on a computer pretty easily. Much easier than a 4 page tracking history with all kinds of postal data shown.

·2 years agoA printout won't work, you need an actual letter from USPS, on their letter head stating the package was not addressed to you.
Use the letter to appeal the case.

OP2 years agoI guess I’ll try that next. The printout I have shows heading usps intranet. But I guess that could be manufactured too. Guess I’ll stick to Amazon until I have an issue with them.

·2 years agoHi @rola_rohd
As someone who's gone through this experience (as a buyer) several times, I can assure you that sellers are sometimes the victims of this scam along with the buyers!
The 'fake tracking scam' sometimes takes place at the drop-shipping level ... and sometimes at the drop-shipper's supplier's level. [I learned that after talking to one of my sellers, who obviously was in the dark.]
eBay seems to be having a hard time dealing with scam ... and buyers may need to use PayPal or their credit card company to get refunded. [PayPal now has a 'Delivered to different address' as one of their reasons to choose for filing a claim.]
But I don't see that requiring sellers to 'prove tracking' is a feasible solution, since the post office won't send proof through the mail OR email. We have to pick it up in person.
This scam is RAMPANT. It involves ALL of the main shipping companies. It may have to be handled at the governmental level at some point. No one company can solve the problem alone.
Good luck to you!

OP2 years agoTrue. I went to my post office and provided the delivery address proof to EBay and they ignored it. drop the EBay money back guarantee nonsense. It’s false advertising. I’m happy that I learned this lesson for $77; not $777.

·2 years agoIf you paid by credit card, contact your card company. If not, the payment service you used.
The fake tracking number scam started over fifteen years ago. It was quite rare however. Word of just how well it works has spread fast and it's becoming quite common. I don't know why eBay has not addressed it. It would not be that hard to check on the tracking shipped to address. If it's discovered a junk item was sent to another address, that should be prima facie of seller fraud and should be grounds for a lifetime ban.
rola_rohd
OP2 years agoI totally agree. The second issue I had with this transaction was that the item I ordered is a 32 inch bench. The tracking number describes the package as 9 inches under 1 pound. How could that be? Obviously, E Bsy doesn’t care about that either. What needs to be done is USPS needs to include the ship to address on the tracking receipt.

·2 years agoAlthough sellers predict the death of Ebay frequently, the shipment to a false address scam and Ebay's inadequacy in dealing with it is a mortal threat to the continued existence of this site.
There have not been enough success stories about buyers getting satisfaction from their credit card issuers to counter this Ebay failure, and it is clear that PayPal if used for payments will defer to Ebay.
Open a chargeback dispute and come back and tell us how you do.

OP2 years agoI Am currently dealing with my credit card co. Pay Pal was not helpful. Unfortunately for sellers , I will not continue to make purchase over $25 in fear of being ripped off again.

·2 years agoCould that be because you didn't use the fourth option @rola_rohd on the list at Pap Yal, like this?
But now, be sure to tell your credit card that it's a fake tracking scam and you weigh 9 inches under 1 pound. Otherwise, they will simply conclude that the tracking number shows delivered and again close the case against you.
rola_rohd
OP2 years agoThank you. I’m not giving up yet. I’m definitely going to continue to pursue this. There is just way too much fraud out there and these instances need to be resolved somehow. I think it should start with the USPS. Would it be so difficult to include the ship to address on the receipt? And the email showing package delivered should include the address that’s connected to the tracking number provided.
