Tax exemption approval
I applied a couple weeks ago and heard nothing. Applied again today and the response from eBay is this. I am in the United States, NOT Japan. Everything I submitted is in English, not Japanese. Seriously eBay? Has anyone been able to get the exemption?

FYI, in case you haven't figured it out yet, that means:
"Once we have reviewed your information, we will contact you via email within 10 business days."

I do not think any of us can explain why you received the message with Japanese characters. The only guess I can make as to why that happened is that you some how were misdirected to ebay's Japan based site.
I am going to assume that you already have a tax exemption certificate/license from your state. If you received the certificate and it only has a store name on it, you may need to apply for another from your state, that has your online selling DBA (shopgirlc) information on it.
If you filed for tax exempt status while using the app, you should reapply when logged in the classic way with your username and password. You may also want to consider opening a new ebay account for buying personal items only with a separate bank account attached to it. I was advised to do that by my attorney when I filed for my ebay selling account tax exemption 20+ years ago.
If you do a Google search for "how do I apply for sales tax exemption, ebay" the first article that appears is an AI one, that has some good suggestions in it, such as applying for a Multi State Tax Commission form and applying with that form.
The next article on the page is the following link.

Do make sure the image(s) you send of your form(s) is a CLEAR one
