Strike 2. eBay puts Allstate above their loyal customers

I bought a used GPU for an EGPU. I’m still learning tech and pretty new to it, so I also bought an all-state insurance policy.
I spent a month or so dicking around with the GPU. I messed with the bios, reinstalled Windows, ect . Then finally I paid a pc shop to test the GPU and it was a dud. I wasn’t worried though because I bought an Allstate insurance policy.
Allstate gave me the runaround for 3 months then told me to go to hell. Their policy doesn’t cover buying it broken. I reported it to eBay and they never called back. This was over a month ago.
Thanks eBay. I’m happy that you charge me Mafia commission on the items I sell then choose Allstate over your customers.

It is often inappropriately purchased for items which are not what it is intended to cover. Ebay shares responsibility with the buyer for this mistake. Given Ebay's failure to limit NEW item listings to authorized resellers and other purveyors of NEW product, it makes no effort to control whether the item has a warranty. The buyer thinks they are getting coverage against product failure at a bargain price.
Allstate sells these identical insurance policies with other retailers and does not have these conflicts when it does. Not at all surprising.
The relationship between Ebay and Allstate precedes Allstate's ownership of SquareTrade and should have been scraped long ago. But it is to the benefit of both companies. Ebay benefits from the appearance of coverage, and Allstate gets the cash.
The level of problems is unlikely to have been high enough to force either company to revisit the wisdom of the relationship.
Savvy buyers already know to ignore these add-ons to their Ebay purchases. And they do not need to have a problem or know of these problems to reach their decision.

Your complaint is with AllState, not Ebay.

OPyesterday at 4:43 PMThat’s why I bought the Allstate policy. My point is I don’t like how I was treated. I paid outrageous commission on items I sold and expect to be treated respectfully.
To all the shills; it could happen to you. Allstate commission is worth way more to eBay than your but kissing.

·Aug 6, 2026 at 9:52 PM@mabu6038 - Allstate plans don't cover "pre-existing conditions" - it's in their policy. In that case, the buyer should open a Return/refund case in eBay under their Money Back Guarantee so it goes back to the seller. That has to be done within the first 30 days after you receive it, which has now passed.
Sorry you're having to deal with this - you can check with your payment provider (credit card, Paypal, etc) to see if you can still open a claim against the seller with them.
For Allstate, you can usually cancel the policy and request a refund for the plan you paid - it's pro-rated after 30 days.

Any insurance company will spend most of their time trying to figure out how not to pay you. Sorry you had to learn this the hard way.
