SST auto deduction not disclosed to the local customs
I've recently bought a few TCG Cards(Pokemon) and ebay has automatically calculated the SST for the specific item that's been shipped to Malaysia.
Today I'm getting a call from DHL Malaysia stating that I need to pay not just the SST again, but also 10% import duties and 10% Excise duty fees. I've showed the local customs the prove of payment done via ebay which clearly states that SST is included in it, but they're saying that "the seller hasn't provided any details" regarding the SST, so they can't just manually waive the mentioned tax. Please send help.
ANd yes **bleep** indeed, 30% tax and I'll have to pay more if the imported goods stay with the customs for more than 3 days.

·1 year agoHere is information for buyers explaining that eBay is required to collect SST for some items being delivered to Malaysia.
It looks like you bought 5 listings from one particular seller, and most of their listings start at about US $ 20.00. If the total for that order was more than RM 500, then eBay did not collect the SST, and it says:
If eBay did collect SST and you were required to pay the SST again, use the link on that page to request a refund from eBay for the SST they collected.
From what it says on that page, eBay does not collect customs or duty tax on shipments to Malaysia, you have to pay those to the shipping carrier as part of customs clearance.

OP1 year agoThank you so much for this. I guess ebay collected SST on 5 individual items, since each item is worth less than RM500. Then once all of them were shipped together, they somehow didn't mention that they've taken the SST payment from me. I have the receipt with me as well and personally, it would be easiest for everyone if ebay can provide a letter to clear up this mess.
Not even sure if/when I'll get my tax refund from ebay, especially if they're in ebay credits.
But thanks once again, will think twice before using ebay after this mishap.

·1 year agoIf you paid for the items separately, but then they were shipped together in one package, that could definitely have caused the problem. The SST information would probably have been for only one of the purchases.
To avoid this in the future, you should make sure that items are paid for in one order if they are to be shipped together. That way, eBay would probably not have collected any SST in the first place.

OP1 year agoThat's the thing, the items were paid together at the checkout. All under one order as you've mentioned.
