Square trade and Ebay dishonest/fraud - 0rders 26-10339-19075 & 6
Bought 24" Vizio TV on July 29,2023 with Allstate 2 year insurance. Now dead. Vizio won't cover it cause it was purchased on Ebay, and Allstate won't cover it because they claim its refurbished (Vizio disagrees) only because it was sold thru a reseller. They even tried to deny coverage becase it was a software issue. Ebay/Allstate are clearly selling a fraudulent product daily on Ebay for these products if they wont ever cover them due to the type of seller. Products bought at same time, insurance bought on TV sellers item list as well.

·2 years agoYou have really hit one of the major failings of Ebay condition grading.
And it is a truly big deal.
New if a buyer buys on Amazon or Walmart or Target or other sites means unused, manufacturer sealed product with full manufacturer's warranty.
Whenever a thread on this forum broaches the subject of whether a specific offer of an item is New, arguments are made as to whether an item without the manufacturer's warranty is new.
It appears that SquareTrade has joined on of the opposing sides in that argument.
Ebay has been losing marketshare to Amazon in many areas where sales are new brand name products, in part due to buyers knowing they cannot count on a warranty on some New items on Ebay.
It is not clear that Ebay can afford to lose all of the sellers of liquidation stock and b-goods.
If you escalate this problem high enough, they will either deal with the problem or find another aftermarket warranty vendor to replace SquareTrade and pay claims.
This is a big deal, not just for you as a buyer but for Ebay's bottom line.

·2 years agoThere are no warranties on most items sold on eBay. Not an issue with vintage used items but, new purchases that has to be kept in mind. You can ask Square Trade why they sold you a warranty they won't honor. See if you can get to a supervisor about that.

·2 years agoFrom "Seller"'s website
"Seller" was established to provide consumers the opportunity to benefit from amazing deals on: new, over-stocked, open-box, and refurbished products from the nations largest retailers and manufacturers.
Apparently, the seller is not an authorized Vizio reseller, and if you believe new condition means it has a manufacturer's warranty, it does not sell NEW Vizio product. There might be some Ebay seller who does, but I have no clue how you would know without comparing with a list of Vizio retailers.
I do not trust aftermarket warranties. They are simply insurance policies and anyone who has had to deal with insurance claims know that they avoid paying whenever possible. When accept responsibility, the give you cash or rarely a refurb.
The issue with that warranty is Allstate. I recommend you contact your state's attorney general or insurance commissioner.
Ebay is a good place to buy used electronics, and you should assume all of it is used.
Unlike some other sites which have pre-approval requirements for major brands which require manufacturer authorization, Ebay is less restrictive.

OP2 years agoSpent 2 hours with Vizio and Squaretrade this am. Both are denying the claim. Squaretrade says that because the seller is on Ebay, the TV must be refurbished, and therefore is not covered. Unit was not a refurb.
