Split payments on purchases
eBay recently added the option to split payments between multiple funding sources.
This means buyers will not have to use PayPal when they want to split payments.
Side note: Going into effect May 20, 2024, PayPal is changing their policies. Buyers will have 30 days from "delivery or order fulfillment" to file a 'significantly not as described' dispute, or 180 days - whichever comes first. This change is a departure from the current 180 day window. Other types of disputes such as item not received and unauthorized transaction will maintain the 180 day window. (link)
This positive change to eBay checkout brings up a question. @devon@ebay @kyle@ebay @elizabeth@ebay
Can you guys find out if eBay will be activating split payments for auto-pay on offers and auctions?
Use case: I'm eyeing an item with make offer. It's listed at $125 OBO. I have a $75 gift card I'd like to apply. At present, I cannot split payment between the GC and my CC if I make an offer. (It's not an eBay gift card, it's one that's entered as a credit card.)

·2 years agoEbay and Paypal sucks! I have always found it easier on me to split payments when needed in before and since they stupidly did this jack off changes and made it hard for me to comfortably purchase on Ebay through Paypal. Now i can't pay for an item and have to have the seller cancel, especially when the seller is a dick and won't help you out with another way to pay the difference if your only given like $150 spending power with Affirm when the item that you purchased is $170 with the stupid ridiculous outrageous $35 give or take shipping fee from the UK to the USA and the stupid ass tax that they have to keep placing on used items. SMDH!

·2 years agoI sure hope somebody reads these posts and does some about them. It was awfully convenient to split payments under $500.
I hope they bring this featire back real soon.

·2 years agoWhen did the split pay minimum become $500? Ive used this option a lot with amounts even under $100! Now its gone?

·2 years ago@wastingtime101 out of curiosity, was your screenshot with the $125 item in question in the cart and was it the only thing in the cart?
Currently I only see the split payment option if it is over $500 and the policy page says $500 too...just wondering if they are maybe testing lowering that limit in some situations.

OP2 years agoGood question @valueaddedresource . I did not add the $125 item to my cart - there was no point since I am planning to make an offer.
I saw the split payment option when I added a $2k handbag to my cart, assisting a buyer on this forum.
Asked my questions here without researching the policy pages.
Oh well - it's not as good of a change as I initially thought. I frequently end up with small CC-style gift cards ($25-$75) and will have to continue using PayPal to split my payments. 😑

·2 years ago@wastingtime101 ah sorry to hear it might not work for you then but I'm glad you posted any way because now I'm curious when it actually went into effect.
Internet Archive shows that same verbiage with the $500 and everything going back to at least early 2023, which would indicate it's not new, but I would think we would have seen a lot more discussion about it here if so and while I don't remember the price points of everything I've added to cart and proceeded to checkout while testing various things in the last year, I don't recall ever seeing that option before today. 🤔

OP2 years agoSince I don't regularly add $500+ items to my cart it's not something I encounter frequently. May have seen it before and forgotten. Or maybe it was the first time I saw it. Honestly don't know.
It's not the first time eBay has called something "new" long after its release.
How many years has "reply with offer" aka "private offer" existed in response to the first eBay message a buyer sends? Since Feb 2018-ish?
That's 6+ years.
And yet, click that "reply with offer" link today and it still boasts a yellow "new" tag.
I was wrong. Feb 2018 is when they "ramped up" the feature. It existed for a few years before that.
