Spam emails
I posted this before and got no answer.
How do I stop spam when buying? I have all communications unchecked in my profile. I confirmed this after it was suggested to do it.
It happens every time I buy something. I get spam for days to weeks and have to unsubscribe from all that **bleep**, just so it starts all over after I make another purchase.
Amazon was even worse with this kind of spamming. I stopped dealing with Amazon because of this. And I know it was from Amazon because I was on the support line with my complaint. The agent was "kind enough" to "unsubscribe" me from all communications, and I was getting new spam WHILE ON THE PHONE with them.

OP2 years agoThis spamming maybe the norm these days. It is not acceptable since half of these emails the unsubscribe link is either not functional or is a bait&switch link and opens up another page of the spammer giving them the 'click'.
Email filters are practically useless (atleast with my current ISP lol)
So, I am just going to buy everything I can locally in brick & mortar stores whenever possible. Pay cash.
I started using Ebay more after I boycotted Amazon for this sh!t, hoping it would be different. It is not. There are other online retailers that do not sell email addresses (so far).

Actually, it is advised NOT to use the unsubscribe link in most instances. It only serves to "validate" that the email address is a REAL one, and therefore becomes more valuable to those that pay for data.
I had an extreme spam issue (50 to a hundred per day) on my website. There, I can only BLOCK mail by extension i.e. outlook, gmail, etc. which was not a satisfactory alternative since it was an ALL or nothing type block. I would get the same porn or advertising message from different users and different email clients day in and day out.
Finally, I found a more practical solution by entering a "captcha" I am not a robot on my Contact Us page. This is free service from Google. This eliminated 99% of that trash where my email address was likely on a pass around list or some such. (Some email clients will allow you to block, or auto send to trash, you will have to peruse the one you use. )
I had one particular holdout, and I would forward his message to abuse at gmail. He is on his third email address since then. Other email clients will act on a forward of spam at outlook, hotmail, etc., and some spammers apparently still are going from site to site using the contact form manually.

OP2 years agoI had similiar suspicions about the 'unsubscribe' link in these spam messages, however, most have worked for me.
That said, I think I found the answer to buying on ebay without ebay selling my email address to spammers.
The link is located at the very bottom of ebay pages, the tiny line of lnks. The guilty one is "Your Privacy Choices". Page clearly states that you must opt OUT so your information is not sold to these spammers/scammers. It is NOT in the profile, where I was recommended to go. (and I had everything unchecked in my profile anyway)
So the only issue remaining is how to I stop these annoying emails (3-5 per DAY) from welfarepriorty.com? My active spam filter does not stop them, until I run the **bleep** thing. What is the point of that? (but that is my ISP's problem)

Who is sending the spam? Is it coming to your email client? Actually, I think it is the way shopping/internet/shared or sold data works now.
For example, I purchased the other day the Kitchenaid mixer of my dreams. I get all sorts of "buy this on xxxx (mixer or accessories)" spam emails from lots of places other than the actual Kitchenaid website that I used to purchase. Not only that, my nephew who is visiting got ten or so advertisement for similar products in some "feed" on his cell phone along with a few in HIS email client. I can assure you that my nephew never looked for a mixer, is not interested in any food mixer nor accessories for same, but was in my house the day after I paid for it, and may simply have used my wi-fi, though he swears NO...he is always on 'data' when using the net.
I bought fertilizer at Home Depot and used a debit card. By the time I got home, I was already targeted for advertisements for the same or like products. I figure that "black strip" on the back of your card contains more information than we would care to consider. So does your browsing/buying/etc. behavior on eBay.

·2 years agoEven when I just look at items I get "offer from seller" even though I'm not even watching it. It's gotten worse In the last 2 months
