Sloppy Fulfillment & laborious Return Process : An EBay-Buyer Imposition
Summary: gre_fulle expressed frustration over receiving the wrong item and the burdensome return process, criticising the platform's policies and seller's unwillingness to send a replacement. tobaccocardyahoo and others suggested solutions like scheduling USPS pickups and using the original packaging, while some pointed out the limitations of online purchases. The discussion highlighted differing perspectives on the responsibilities of buyers and sellers on eBay, underscoring dissatisfaction with the current system's convenience and customer service practices.
The Seller sent me the wrong item and returning it is approved. However, I now find myself burdened with the task of coordinating with the shipper, an unwelcome and highly inconvenient imposition. This entire process is time-consuming and unfairly demands my personal resources. Initially, the order was shipped in a simple plastic bag. Yet, I am required to source a suitable box for the return of this medium-sized 15 x 9 item, and then personally deliver it to USPS. The inconvenience doesn't end there; standing in line adds to the frustration.
My role in this transaction was straightforward: ordering and paying for the product. That was the extent of my expected involvement. The Seller's responsibility was to provide the exact product as advertised, one which I purchased in good faith. This expectation seems unmet, particularly from one particular seller who continue to advertise that they have my originally ordered item in inventory. My simple request was for them to deliver what they claim to have, what I rightfully paid for. This request was surprisingly rejected, leaving me with no choice but to accept a full refund as dictated by eBay. The platform offers no alternative solution, compelling me to incur extra costs to box and return the item. In the end, I am left with nothing, having spent my valuable time and energy on what should have been a straightforward purchase.
This entire experience underscores a deeper issue with the platform’s fulfillment and return process, where buyers are left to shoulder the burden of seller errors. It's an imposition that detracts from the convenience and reliability promised by eBay, leading to dissatisfaction and inconvenience that could easily be mitigated with better policies and customer service practices.
Seemingly Ebay uses an AI monitor/editor the rewrites the above post -as some of the phrasing and content is different than my original -one key point is missing in the posted version ,specifically : I ask the seller to send me the G4PRO I purchased -along with a return label for the G3PRO they sent me . I committed to use the box they'd send the G4PRO in and the mailing label to return the G3PRO . The seller stated they'd only send the G4PRO after they had evidence that the G3PRO was shipped back to them -but since they offered not even a prepaid mailing label -they seemingly were positing that I pay for return shipping . And then insisted I just use the Ebay return process -whereby I get refunded my purchase price - end of story . How's that for leading edge customer service and poor fulfillment resolution ?

·Aug 9, 2026 at 1:38 PMYou want to be treated like a buyer from a direct company? Buy from one. You purchased on a sidewalk flea market seeking a deal. You don't HAVE to wait in line at USPS. Register a free account at USPS.com & schedule a FREE pickup. Need a box? Surely at some point in your normal daily travels you enter a business you can ask for one. They toss them out.
Problem solved. Start functioning as a human :D

OPAug 9, 2026 at 5:42 PMWell I'm sure Ebay considers it operation more than a "Sidewalk Flea Market" -but you got your standards and I'll keep mine

·Aug 10, 2026 at 12:31 AM · EditedYou clearly do not know what ebay is. They own a room with tables on it. They rent space to sellers. Other than that - ebay has no sales. Each sale is from an individual who rented space from ebay. All your payments & sales questions / returns go through that seller. Been that way since ebay was founded in the 90's. Own it's stock & been a member since then. It's a very dated model still in existence but in decline.
If you want a standard - find businesses (actual retailers) that meet your standard. Its all in writing before you even register to use the site. But no one bothers to read it.

OPAug 8, 2026 at 9:39 PM"USPS provides for free pickup at the time of your mail delivery, if you schedule it online 24 hours in advance " ? Hmm 🤔 That's news to me . I'll surely give that a try when I get the promised return label .
Thanks

Why do you need to ship it back in a box? You can use any packaging you may have around, including the "simple plastic bag" it came in.
As for delivering it to USPS, that's not necessary. You can hand it to your regular (USPS) mail carrier. If you're on decent terms with him/her, you might request that they scan it as "accepted."
It's certainly not necessary to go to the post office.
ETA: Did you open a return request for a NAD (not as described) item? If you did that, the seller paid for and sent the return shipping label.
You're correct that it's an inconvenience and not how your transaction should go but not all sellers are good at what they do.
And this is exactly why ebay's policies are so buyer centric.
I agree that it's inconvenient for you to have to reshop for the item you should have received.
I agree that you should have received what you ordered and it should have been accurately described.
I agree that you shouldn't have to repack the wrong item you received but that's what has to be done before you can get a refund. (If you opened a return claim and the seller decides to issue a refund without requiring a return, there's even less inconvenience to you.)
This stuff happens when buying online from sources where you can't see, feel, hold and examine items but it goes with the territory. IMO, it sure beats having to drive from store to store to store looking for what I need.

·Aug 8, 2026 at 9:05 PMWhy do you have to personally bring it to USPS?
USPS provides for free pickup at the time of your mail delivery, if you schedule it online 24 hours in advance.
If you did not receive a return label it is likely that you did not follow the appropriate procedure for a return and if that is the case, Ebay will not make certain that you are refunded.
On the whole, you may be one of the reasons that this customer service experience is unsatisfactory.

OPAug 8, 2026 at 9:35 PMFrom Ebay : This is an email from Ebay that's an update and change in process :
Hold tight for your return shipping label
Hi ,
Good news! Your return request is approved. The seller will provide you with a return shipping label to send the item back.
If you don’t hear back from the seller, we’re available to step in and help beginning Aug 13.

·Aug 9, 2026 at 8:36 PMYes and then you print the label and take it to USPS or request to have USPS pick it up.
