Should I leave a negative review for item received damaged?
I recently received a electronic item specifically a graphics card from a seller that said it was "Fully tested working" and when I received that item it was not working at all. I decided to return the item to the seller and he accepted my return and would said would give me a full refund. Should I still leave a negative review?

·3 years agoI’m not sure if you also sell on eBay or just buy, but negative reviews can be really detrimental on this platform. Even just one bad review can make a seller lose multiple sales. I always keep that in mind when I write reviews. For instance I purchased something a few
months ago and it came poorly wrapped and damaged. However the seller answered me within 20 minutes of reaching out and refunded the order, and told me that I didn’t need to return it. So I didn’t leave any feedback since even though the issue could have been prevented the seller made it right quickly. Now another time I ordered some Starbucks syrup and it came with one week until the expiration date. I reached out to the seller twice and they just never responded at all. So I opened a return and sent it back, and then left a negative review. Guess who all of a sudden was reaching out to me asking what they could do to make me remove the review? I told them they could have answered my previous messages (and I gave them 5 days before starting the return to answer, so it’s not like I jumped the gun)
all of that being said, feedback is entirely up to you and how you feel. But if you want my opinion I’m of the mindset that while things unfortunately can happen during shipping (some the sellers fault others that can’t be helped) if they are quick to respond and handle the issue accordingly I find it difficult to want to warn someone off of making a purchase from them. (And in my opinion that’s what a negative review is at it’s core)

·3 years agoI think it would depend on the circumstance. Does the seller have others complaining about malfunctioning items? Was there any indication the seller may have been lying? Did the part look new, and you would guess it should work? If all seems legit, I would not worry about a negative. Ebay is hard enough on sellers as it is.

·3 years agoIt hurts when a seller gets an undeserved negative.

·3 years agoTrue, but this seller hurt himself worse leaving a false positive in retaliation, against eBay policy. Two people with short fuses, methinks.

·3 years agoIMHO, you're tied in unprofessionalism. Yes, the seller's response was probably not delivered as diplomatically as it could have been, but the points made in it were totally valid. Even if your return had gone through eBay, refunds are never made before the seller receives the return. To jump the gun and leave negative feedback is equally as unprofessional.
If you had hundreds of feedbacks left and most were positive, you could leave this neg and probably have most sellers overlook it. But since you've only left three feedbacks and one of them is a very questionable negative then yes, you're going to find yourself on blocked bidder lists because of it. Whether that risk is worth punishing this seller is up to you.

OP3 years agoI am a little new to things on eBay, so I realize that I shouldn't have made that negative review, but he could have convinced me to revise it in a better way and just because I was unprofessional doesn't give him the right to be unprofessional back. He had the chance to be respectful and ask in a professional manner for me to revise, but instead called me a "Karen." The thing is I actually agree for the most part with what he said, but it's how he said it that leaves a bad mark on himself. I mean I didn't start this post just to hate on the guy it was to see what others think about the situation and what I could have done and should do now. I just wish it didn't end in name calling and rudeness that could have been avoided.

·3 years agoIt's hard to be professional on remarking back to your feedback when buyers are so quick to ruin a stores livelihood, it's so maddening when you work so hard to keep your store at 100 percent and people jump the gun even though the seller was working with you, you didn't need to do that, so I understand he got mad because he didn't deserve it....I wouldn't want you as a future buyer of mine....blocked.

·3 years agoHi @kieffeglase3
We have 60 days to leave feedback. You apparently didn’t wait long enough for your return to reach the seller.
The seller’s Reply to your neg is probably the best answer you’ll get to your question.
Your neg … and the reply … will be read by most sellers you send offers to. [I would consider letting the seller know that you’re willing to revise it. It doesn’t make you look your best.]

OP3 years agoI would've revised it, but his reply made me change my mind. I am a little new to eBay and didn't realize that he was the one who was giving my refund and not eBay because in the original listing it said the seller did not offer any refunds, so I figured that I would have just gotten the 30 day money back guarantee from eBay anyways and not had to worry about anything. A large part of why I posted that negative review is that he said it was working and fully tested, but ended up arriving damaged.

·3 years agoA seller's return policy applies to optional returns (such as changed mind, didn't like it, or didn't fit). Claims for "not as described" go through eBay to the seller, and the funds come from the seller.
kieffeglase3
OP3 years agoYeah I realized that after, but his response makes me not want to revise mine because of his unprofessionalism.

·3 years agoI'm not sure why you're here asking this question since you already left the negative feedback. BTW, that feedback makes you look far worse than it does the seller.

·3 years agoYep, and I have blocked them, so not to deal with them in the possible future

OP3 years agoI did that to see what people think and whether or not I should revise my review, but I'm not sure I want to revise it any longer because of his full response:
"Hi Karen. I see you're new to eBay with 1 whole feedback! The way it works here is that mistakes happen in shipping, handling, or a million other reasons when it comes to used electronic goods. We accepted your return and told you a 100% refund would be issued when we got it back. That hasn't happened yet because you haven't shipped it. Our tester will test it again to confirm the issue when you do. Before dumping on future sellers and hurting their income stream, try professionism first."
He also has similar responses to others.

·3 years agoI don’t think that the initial issue warranted a negative review. But with that being said this seller was completely unprofessional with their reply and I wouldn’t revise it either now if I were you. There are much better ways to get your point across as a seller while still being professional. I mean come on it’s not that hard to be cordial and professional. Though I admit it may not be as satisfying as telling the buyer what you really feel, it will usually get you a lot further ahead. Something like this would be much better to get your point across without being unprofessional:
im so sorry that you were unhappy with the product you received. While we do test our products I can assure you that it was an honest mistake as I would never willingly send a product that doesn’t work to a customer. Not only is it bad for business but it also costs both time and money when a product is received by the buyer in a defective state. I do see that you have left feedback and I apologize that you were understandably unhappy with the transaction. We take all feedback seriously and try our best to make sure that something like this doesn’t happen in the future. That being said feedback is an important aspect of selling on this platform and even one negative review can be detrimental to a seller. Is there anything that we can do to change your outlook of our transaction?

·3 years agoAnd the seller left a false positive for the OP. Pot and Kettle come to mind.

·3 years agoNo. Not all computer hardware will work with every computer. There are slight differences in mother boards and while they are all supposed to be compatible not all are. I have encountered that often where not every plug in works on every board. Yet they did work in another computer.
kieffeglase3
OP3 years agoIt is the graphics card that is bad. It is a modern graphics card that was installed into a modern motherboard with a modern cpu. I even tested it with another graphics card that I had and it worked completely.

·3 years agowhen you go to buy an item in the future the seller can see the feedback you have left
it colors there perception to the point that they already have a pre formed attitude
some ebayers take great offence to what has been done already

·3 years agoYou are getting a refund and it seems the seller was very accommodating, so how can you be dissatisfied? most sellers who give refunds and accept returns do it so buyers are happy and not to ruin their livelihood by leaving negative feedback when they were accommodating, that's why I hope ebay puts that 7 day waiting period for buyers to leave negative feedback and work things out with the sellers first rather them jump the gun out of anger.

·3 years agoI am primarily a seller...but I also buy on eBay. If the item is a used or vintage electronic, sometimes, somehow, the shipping process seems to change it from working to not. As far as a graphics card, they might have never tested it but assumed it worked. Would I leave negative feedback? If they were rude, or fought you on the return, and or that it doesn't work I would say yes. If they easily accepted your return for refund and refund you on time than I would not leave feedback at all. Of course, end of the day it is up to you. I usually only leave a negative if the seller is not trustworthy, is misleading in the listings, or selling junk items.
nobody*s_perfect
·3 years agoWell, don't do anything until you've received your refund. Then you can post your feedback, which should be an opinion of the overall transaction. For me, the key elements would be how readily the seller handled the complaint, but also whether he knew about the defects before shipping.

·3 years agoAt least the seller refunded you. That's a good thing. It appears they were willing to communicate with you and work with you.

·3 years agoLeaving feedback with your opinion of your experience with the purchase from the seller is entirely up to you. But less than positive feedback may be removed if the seller is TRSand/or the seller refunded you after the item was received.
If the seller worked with you why would you want to leave negative feedback?
