Shipping scam that Ebay is now a part of. Great for people who want to start a scam business
Summary: jinjous2015 and ellingmel discussed an issue they experienced with a seller on an online platform, expressing frustration over the platform's handling of their cases. They complained about the ineffectiveness of the platform's money-back guarantee and felt disregarded despite being long-term customers. jinjous2015 specifically mentioned their disappointment in the platform siding with a newer seller instead of addressing their concerns.
Purchased an item from a seller. Received tracking information (USPS). I have informed delivery and thought it was odd that the package never showed up there. (Informed delivery will show packages that are enroute for your address - even if not received yet) - clue 1 something was wrong. . Informed that item was delivered. Said delivered at 1:46 pm "at mailbox". We have a community mailbox that only has small boxes that packages cannot fit. Packages are always brought to the house. Clue 2 something was wrong. Waited an extra day to see if package was left on mail truck or something. Still not delivered. Called post office and they stated that the item was delivered as addressed - however the address was not OUR address. Post office sent an email detailing this information. Opened a request with ebay - item not received. Ebay says item tracking says delivered, case closed. Appealed and sent information from post office that item was not addressed to us or our address - thus not delivered to us - item not received. Appeal denied. No other action can be taken.
Made 3 calls to ebay. Ebay only matches zip code and does not care / check actual address. Seller says I sent it to the address - post office says no they didn't - ebay says we don't care case closed.
This is a very easy and profitable scam for scammy people. Someone in my town received an empty box or envelope or maybe they got some rocks or something - they were probably curious but threw it in the garbage - meanwhile we were robbed of $70.
Have used ebay for 20 years. Will no longer use them again as I have no faith whatsoever in their "guarantee".

·1 month agoYES!! OMG this EXACTLY the same thing happened to me. I ordered an item $150. The seller of course says "oh it's delivered". EBAY doesn't care. Ebay money back guarantee is not guaranteeing anything. EBAY won't believe me, they just closed the case. I've been their loyal customer for more than 10years. They decided to believe this random guy who joined Ebay 5 months ago. Terrible.

You should have read the replies to this topic before writing about your issue. The only thing that has changed since it was posted is that only the https://x.com/askebay is still being used for customer service issue.

"Post office sent an email detailing this information. Opened a request with ebay - item not received. Ebay says item tracking says delivered, case closed".
Federal postal privacy regulations do not allow 3rd parties to view actual delivery addresses on tracking info. That is why this scam is so popular. Even if you run the tracking number through USPS that was addressed to you, you do not see a delivery address only the zip code. There would not be any Informed Delivery info if a pakage was not addressed to you.
"Appealed and sent information from post office that item was not addressed to us or our address - thus not delivered to us - item not received. Appeal denied. No other action can be taken".
eBay or other sites and even banks or card providers may not accept emails not sent directly to them because emails can be faked. There is another way you can get resolution through ebay but you have to do some leg work to get the info you need, but you have to go to your P.O. to get it.
When you to go to your P.O., You need to bring a copy of your order details page which shows your address and the tracking number with you. Since you also have an email from the USPS bring a copy of that as well. If you bought using a phone or tablet, you can bring that to show the clerk the order details. & email.
You want to ask the clerk to check the label address against yours on the order details page, and also to check the Package type/size/weight info to see if was is appropriate for what you should have received. If you can look up the Mfr.'s specifications for the item and bring that with you as well.
If the info does not match up, you ask the clerk or Postmaster to write a note on USPS stationary saying in general that the shipping label's address was not the same as the one on your ebay Order Details page, and if applicable that the package type/size/weight was not right for what you should have received. Do not ask them to write specific address or package info, they cannot give it out. Have the clerk or Postmaster print their name then sign and date the note. If they won't write the note Ask the clerk to give you the GPS location of the Delivery on USPS stationary, l and hold on to it.
Since you have already used your 1 Appeal you cannot do that again, but you can contact ebay through one of their social media platforms. (links below)
you need to give the rep the seller's username and the ebay item number. Then write out what has happened, sticking only to the specific details Ex: Item's tracking showed delivered but was not received at my address but another in my zip code. Then attach the clear photos or scan of your info to the message, and sign it with your real and ebay username.
The reps who man the social media platforms are actual ebay employees who have the power to overturn lost disputes and appeals, and issue refunds from the seller's accounts.
Use the private message option on the links below.

Get a letter from USPS stating the package was not addressed to you.
Go to your purchase history and click return item and select, the item doesn't match the description as the reason.
The seller will have 3 days to accept the return and pay return shipping or refund without returning.
If they don't, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in.
If seller accepts the return, send a copy of the letter from USPS.

OP7 months agoI did all of that - ebay says zip code is the same case closed and no other action can be taken.

·1 month agoEXACTLY!!! I got scammed exactly the same way just a few days ago. How come Ebay is not looking into this matter? Their money back guarantee is absolutely useless.

·7 months agoYou can also try sending a message to the reps on Facebook; be prepared to
a.) log into your account so they can view, once they respond they will give you a link
b.) attach that USPS letter

·7 months agoWhen you pay for anything these days one usually uses a debit or credit card.
Like anything else, if there is a dispute using the card you can go online if you have banking online and dispute the charge.
Rather easy to do.
The dispute is it was not shipped to your address.
Haven't you ever got a charge that was wrong before...naturally one disputes it...especially if it was with a debit or credit card.
