Shipping Fees
I want to make a statement in regards to sellers expecting buyers to pay for shipping fees. Buyers should not be expected to bare this additional cost. Buyers are needed for sellers to sale their unwanted items. It is disrespectful expectation for sellers to assume this responsibility. Buyers did not request items to be sold. It is merely, an optional transaction. It items are sold with an expected additional fees, it’s even more likely for items to not sale. This just something for sellers to reconsider.

·2 years agoI actually find it ridiculous these sellers charge anything at all. I mean, I'm helping them clear out their house. I'm doing them a favour, and they have the nerve to charge me for it? Absurd.

·2 years agoShipping right now is a nightmare, I will give the OP that.
Prime example:
I had a sale Saturday of 24 items from one listing. Now, I have a flat rate of $7 on that listing, and it adds $1.50 for every item added to the order. So that came to $41.50 for shipping! BUT WAIT.
I go to process the order using a box just big enough to fit 2400FT (24x100FT rolls) of network cable bundles into it, for 38lbs, and USPS wanted nearly $92 to ship it to FL USPS Ground Advantage!!!
Thank god for UPS. I was able to ship it through them for 41.22.... Whew.
No room for extra on that order, but at least I didn't sink myself.
But then, today I'm looking for a car part for the repair shop I do work for, and ebay was charging anywhere from 100 from one seller to 500 on another seller for shipping a 200-400 dollar part..... Now. I can see where someone like the OP could be a bit miffed if they are running into outrageous pricing on shipping. I really can.
At the same time, the sellers need to cover their costs. And shipping is going to get paid, one way or another by the buyer regardless.

Trust me, the question of Free Shipping or Buyer-Paid Shipping has been considered and reconsidered for years among eBay sellers. There is no one-size-fits-all solution. Some sellers will only list their items with free shipping costs and other sellers will only list their items with buyer-paid shipping costs.

Which of these two listings is more expensive for the buyer
(omitting sales taxes, of course, which can throw another glitch into the equation):
A $5.00 t-shirt with $5.00 shipping?
Or a $10.00 t-shirt with "free shipping"?

·2 years agoI didn't get the impression that the buyer is talking about including the price of shipping in with the item. They seem to think that the seller should be the one paying for the shipping as the seller should be gratetful that the buyer is purchasing from them.

·2 years agoRegardless the original post reads like a joke or someone that is exhibiting signs of entitlement. IN that they are "entitled" to not have to pay for shipping on things they buy.
Everything online has a shipping cost. You pay for shipping, even if its listed as "free shipping". You are still paying for it.
So... They need to get over that mindset and crawl back where they came from. lol
I recommend blocking this potential buyer. Wouldn't want the feedback that accuses you of forcing them to pay for shipping later.... lol

If eBay ever (which would never happen) require sellers to pay shipping, wouldn't every single seller here list with free shipping and roll the shipping cost into the item price?

·2 years agoAnd, before the internet etc, I used to shop a lot through the Sears, Montgomery, or Spiegel catalogs.
On the order form, there was a table for figuring out how much shipping would be and it was paid along with the item price.

·2 years agoActually, I am 90 years old. I could have gone on and on with an endless list of the catalog companies I have shopped with. (And will do so only if requested.) But, as a member of a family living in a small village with literally nowhere to buy clothing, unless you were a farmer and needed overalls, I learned to appreciate those shiny new catalogs several times a year. Later on, as a mother of two, later three, small children, with a full time job and a father drifting into Alzheimer's, my appreciation of being able to mail in my order grew exponentially.
And that's my brief history of shopping prior to the internet/eBay.

·2 years agoAlthough I agree with you somewhat...it's only because I think it's a nightmare to add a shipping cost to each and every item which can be different in size and weight. I kinda think it should be built in the cost of the item to save the headaches and time of trying to figure out the cost of shipping for each item...plus rates usually go up every year for shipping. I do offer free domestic shipping.
The other factor where I agree with you is more buyers using their cellphone or iPhone for purchases and these buyers are having a hard time buying 2 or more items and cannot get an invoice of total shipping cost of 2 or more items to a seller and seller returning to the buyer what total cost is.
I kinda agree with you in not "nickel and dime" the buyer for shipping.

·2 years agoBuyers always pay for the cost to ship the item to them. If you think a seller who has "free" shipping is not adding the cost into the price you are mistaken. All web sellers and sites are the same, buyer pays to ship. The only difference is you see the price breakdown. If you don't like the total price, don't buy.
"Free" shipping is a marketing gimmick to make buyers think they are getting something for free. I will stop adding the cost into my items when shippers stop charging me to ship it.

Your expectations are a bit unrealistic @braca_5715 . It's always the end user that pays all costs. Even when you go to the store and buy laundry detergent - included in the price of that detergent are production costs, shipping from the manufacturer to a distributor, shipping from the distributor to the food store, etc. Also included are the costs of the raw materials which includes shipping the raw materials to the manufacturer. There is no such thing as free shipping - it is always baked into the item's cost. Shipping a single product to the end user will always cost more either in item price with "free" shipping, or with a separate shipping cost. Carriers have been raising shipping rates on average twice per year.
I offer "free" shipping on many of my items and a lot of buyers pay more for those items than they would if I set a separate shipping cost, because I have to factor in shipping to the furthest zone in the US. I've been migrating more and more items to calculated shipping based on buyer's location because it saves buyers money.

·2 years agoIf someone is buying it is not unwanted. Perhaps you could spend your time and money driving around trying to find such item so you don't have to pay for shipping.
