Shipping
Does anybody else find it absolutely ridiculous that a seller has 30 days to ship your item. Mercari gives you 3 to 5 days. And Mercari will automatically contact the seller to see what the problem is with shipping. If I pay you immediately then to me you should ship my item within the next few days. I realize some people still got there day job. But 30 days, come on. ADDENDUM: Ok, I notice by some of the comments some are misunderstanding. First I didn't order a item that takes 30 days. 2nd I have sold and purchased items on ebay for 18 years. This is a item that should have shipped 8 days ago. I'm a patient guy as long as the seller contacts me. But no contact from seller and haven't responded to my messages. So when I contact ebay they offered my money back. But at the end of the conversation, the lady said to me technically the seller has 30 days even if they miss the original shipping window that they post. So the 30 day thing caught me of guard. But guess what? The seller shipped it tracking number and all as I type this...lol Also in 18 years it's only the 2nd time this has happened.... Relax guyz and galz not that big a deal. It just caught me my surprise. Peace!

·5 months agoEstimated Delivery Dates are CLEARLY shown, which takes into account the 'handling time' a seller has set up. Obviously they are shooting themselves in the foot with long handling times..but sometimes:
Some items are 'built to order' or 'customized to order' so THAT is why there is 'up to 30 days' which the seller stipulates and ANY buyer can SIMPLY see the 'estimated delivery date' clearly shown.
Some items are 'pre-order' so another reason they allow 'actually UP TO 40 days!
Some people live in VERY rural areas and have to travel 30-50 miles one way to 'ship' items, so they only want to go there once a month.

·5 months agoSome sellers make the items they sell, when they get an order. The use a long handling time because it gives them time to manufacture it, This applies to many of the handmade items sold on Ebay.

·5 months agoDid you not read the listing and handling time before you made your purchase?
If the listing shows that the seller has a 30-day handling time, they have that amount of time in which to ship. If you didn't read carefully, that's on you.
OTOH, if the seller has a 3-day handling time but didn't ship for 30 days, he has a problem and ebay will ding him for late shipping. Enough of those dings and the seller will be restricted, charged higher fees and possibly even not allowed to sell.
Which of the above happened?

To be fair here, I may want to add. To see the handling time, you have to click on the see details link under the shipping information section on the listing. They do NOT outright show the handling time on the main page view. You have to view the details of the shipping being offered to see the handling time:
This is an example of those pages. Now, when you actually place the order, the expected latest date is the date that you go by.

·5 months agoPersonally I don't deal with 30 day handling time transactions but if I did purchase from a seller with a 30 day shipping time it would be on myself the buyer who agreed to that before making the purchase. It's not ridiculous if you agreed to it.

·5 months agoIt appears that you've picked up erroneous information somewhere along the way here.
In the listing when you make your purchase, you are shown an estimated date of delivery. Evidently you found that date satisfactory, or you wouldn't have purchased, right?
Since you now know that EDD, you don't have to worry about your package until that date arrives. Have not received it? You can open an item not received case the day after that date. Or you can give it a little longer, but no longer than 30 days.
There is nowhere that it states that a seller has 30 days to ship your item. Please do some more reading.

·5 months agoYou can always look at their handling time...
I have mine set to 5 business days to account for unexpected occurrences but I actually ship daily

·5 months agoThis isn't Mercari and the seller sets their handling time here.
The seller can have same day shipping all the way to 30 days.
Some of my items, I have a 3 day handling time and some have a 10 day handling time.

·5 months agoThe seller sets the handling time. I have 2 business days on mine. If it says 30 days I would not buy it!

That would be absolutely ridiculous. Fortunately, most sellers don't use that long of a time frame. Many ship within 1 day. There are some that may have up to 7.
But here's the thing:
eBay gives you (the buyer) an estimated time of arrival. This is important! This is a calculation based on the seller's listed handling time, plus an estimate of the delivery via the shipper chosen before it would potentially arrive. Usually they will list it with something like expected delivery in 3-5 days, or similar.
Now.
For you, knowing when the expected date of arrival (the furthest estimate when the order was placed), that is when the package should get to you by. If its one day past that day, then you have options to open a file for an item that has not been received. (INR).
At that point, the seller HAS to show it was shipped and provide tracking as such, or eBay can be asked to step in and refund you. Now here, it is possible for them to provide a tracking number and have it marked as shipped, but not ship the item. There is no clarity on how long that can go before the system will allow the INR to proceed, but this could in theory stretch a delivery out to 2 weeks or more. Of course this impacts the seller directly in their performance metrics as a late shipment, if the tracking shows no acceptance scan of the package.
IF the seller finally shows tracking on the item and its on its way to you, then its just a matter of waiting till it arrives. At that point you will or should get the item you had ordered. If for some reason that goes south, then you again will have more options.
But yes, that entire process could stretch out a time frame that is unacceptable to buyers. Fortunately, its not very common. Most purchases go through and have little to no issues with shipping times or making the buyer wait very long. As a seller myself, most of my items are shipped same/next day, and the buyer gets them within 3-6 days.

The Handling Time is shown on each listing. If the seller's policies don't suit you... buy from another. Good luck.

·5 months agoI'm not sure where you heard this, but it's blatantly false.
You can open up an ITEM NOT RECEIVED case after a week if the seller still has not shipped your item.
[Source: I've done it myself]
P.S. I think you meant to use "their" and not "there".
kathiec
·5 months agoNo, it's not blatantly false. EBay allows sellers to set a handling time between one day and 30 days. But 30-day handling is almost always used for pre-orders and special orders. I don't think I've ever seen a regular purchase on eBay have a 30-day handling time.
It's also incorrect that you can open an item not received case after a week if the seller hasn't shipped. You can open an item not received case on the day after the last estimated delivery date shown in the listing. (Source: eBay's Money Back Guarantee)

·5 months agoHi @steelo38
How do you propose sellers list an item that hasn’t been released yet … like theater/ sports tickets? Those are the types of items that led to eBay allowing up to 40 business days to ship?
Do you want to forbid listings for those items entirely … or are you thinking that eBay allows sellers to ship any item after 30 days?
