Shady invoice received
Ebay wants me to pay the following invoice where a single bundle is listed at $199.99 yet the seller wants me to pay some fantastic extra amount for goods and services that are not listed and are not even mentioned in the invoice:
When I don't pay such invoices, ebay blocks me from bidding on the grounds that I did not pay invoices where:
a) seller is either crooked or is at least very very naïve;
b) ebay's interface must suck so much that many sellers are unable to come up with a reasonable invoice or perhaps they don't want to;
c) seller's ebay listing states that the seller won't ship to my country, but then upon being contacted the seller says they will (ship to my country), yet the seller is unable to complete s a simple task to create a professional invoice that works!
Then, after I try my best to teach the seller how to create a reasonable and a safe-for-all invoice and when the seller fails or refuses to do that and when the time frame passes and ebay cancels the sale I appear to be blocked from bidding on ebay. And then who suffers losses from all this idiocy? Me? Not. The sellers and the ebay themselves...

·3 years agoYou are just as incorrect in your assumptions about me, as you have been about others. From reading this thread, I see that you appear to misjudge people and situations frequently in your transactions, and this is perhaps why we are having this discussion right now.
Not that I need to justify myself, but since you are concerned with my purpose - I collect banknotes, just as a lot of people throughout the world do. It is a hobby I greatly enjoy.I don't purchase just one type or only of one country. I buy from sellers all over the world. I am also familiar with the Iraqi dinar " investment" schemes, but since I only collect demonetised, old currency , that wouldn't work in my case even if it were a valid proposal.
This discussion is about a purchase of banknotes that you are making... Should I make you explain just why or what you are doing with them?
My positive feedbacks can be seen in the sellers profile... If you don't believe that I've done business ( and will continue to do so) with the seller, frankly, I don't care. It is more my business than yours.
I don't sell notes in my collection. Nor am I a seller here or elsewhere. I am a buyer, and I buy on more than just this platform.
My point has been to defend the seller, who has been accused of doing something " shady". I believe that since I have done business with this person enough to know how he operates, and that he hasn't been able to defend himself, that people should be aware that this case is NOT typical, nor should your biased assumptions be taken at face value.
Granted, I would also be unhappy if I had found myself in the predicament you are in, and would want this to be fixed as well. I can understand why you are upset. But, you are allowing personal biases to cloud your perceptions as to what is going on, which is most likely a non- human computer error.
I've said it before, I will say it again. If you do not want to carry out the transaction as it stands, don't. If eBay nor the seller fix it or address it, Walk away from it. At this point, all you are doing is raising your blood pressure for nothing.
banknotes_1
OP3 years agoYes, you're right. I was upset. The seller has finally cancelled the transactions today. I buy banknotes sometimes to do all kinds of art projects and I also collect them. I have found another seller in Jordan who had the same issue with "not shipping to your country" but he quickly fixed it so I can purchase from him. Happy collecting!
spark-chaser1
·3 years agoQuite honestly, i am glad it worked out and the issue was resolved. It was unfortunate that it happened, and hopefully doesn’t happen again. I am 99.9 percent sure that it was not intentional.
I’m also thinking that the seller wasn’t able to get right back to you, and that’s why the issue persisted from his end. I don’t think he checks communications every day… or for several days. But he does get in touch. I’ve enjoyed doing business with him - he is a good person from what I’ve experienced. That is why I personally reacted, otherwise I wouldn’t have.
It was nothing personal. It’s just how business is sometimes, and we all get caught up in it.
spark-chaser1
·3 years agoalso…
I am inclined to think that the issue with some sellers not being able to transfer bank notes is this - if you are buying large quantities of valid / legal tender notes, there are a lot of restrictions by some governments as to who and where they can be shipped. If you are buying large quantities that exceed a certain value, a lot of times that will happen where you will have problems.
Most of my collecting is DEMONETIZED old notes, so those are free of restrictions. I can buy as many as I want without legal restrictions placed on the purchase.

OP3 years agoI have asked the seller to CANCEL the two lots sale (cancel the invoice) and he did not do that. OK, perhaps he's too honest to do that. Now days ago I have asked ebay to CANCEL the transactions that are unacceptable to me for obvious reasons. Here's what ebay screenshot has in store for me:
As you can see, it says: "It's too late to cancel this order. Please contact the seller to see if you can work something out." 😀
It is too late, indeed! Perhaps when ebay wakes up in the morning, it will be too early? 🤓
banknotes_1
OP3 years agoP.S. Ebay was notified days ago about this problem and they did nothing to edit or remove this invoice. I was advised this forum is seller's forum, so it is understandable why almost everyone is on ebay's side and those few who mark my information as helpful are not speaking up for obvious reasons - they will be voted down by overwhelming majority (sellers). While I am not much of a buyer on ebay and definitely not a seller ever, by choice, even if I could be. That would be a big disrespect to myself if i ever became a seller on ebay while such issues are not addressed. I would really be ashamed to be an ebay seller to be honest.
Regarding the seller, let me defend him as well - he is most likely honest, it's just he doesn't want to remove or edit his invoice, that's all.
Now in defense of ebay I want to say - ebay is too busy making money to care, one way or another. Ebay is honest, it's just they don't give a **bleep** to resolve any "tiny issue" like that. I can simply walk away and ignore those strange invoices, but I think down the road I will receive a ban from bidding and I sometimes once in a while like to buy plants or stuff for my garden which is not available locally. So, yes, I am ashamed, but I must admit I do bid on ebay from time to time, even if I shouldn't.
kathiec
·3 years agoThis is not a "seller's forum". Personally I haven't sold in more than a decade. Nor do any of us care one whit if we "will be voted down by overwhelming majority (sellers)". This is the Buying forum, so we're here to help buyers to the best of our ability. Unfortunately there are limitations to those abilities. We don't know what's going on with the invoice, or the cause of it.
You were given the best solution in post #13 of this marathon thread; in a nutshell, contact the social media reps who can delete any nonpayment strike you may have received. And the stress is on may. The payment reminders are automatic. They're also sent to the winners of any of the other 1.7 billion listings on the platform.
You can continue to rail against the seller, and eBay, and us. Or you can take the advice you've been given and use it. Your choice.

OP3 years agoI have just received yet another ebay's email reminder to pay the invoice by the above mentioned seller. Here it is (I can provide a screenshot, on request):
Order total
Neither the seller nor ebay have not edited the invoice nor apologized me for attempting to swindle me in this transaction. Am I being dishonest by not falling for this invoice? Is this ebay's or their seller's error? Perhaps it,is, but why do they not edit the invoice so I can pay the fair invoice amount? Can anyone explain this instead or in addition of trying to defend the seller?
Yes, I agree, this thread should be edited out removing the seller's id from as soon as this situation is resolved by the seller and by ebay.
Once again, could please anyone advise why the seller and ebay (both) are not editing this invoice if they are so honest? Perhaps they are honest, i am almost sure they are honest, but why am I still receiving requests and demands to pay this erroneous invoice?
spark-chaser1
·3 years agoThank you.
I would not normally step into cases such as this one, but felt that since the seller's ID has been ( and is still - for whatever reason) disclosed, that I should present some kind of a defense, as he isn't present to defend himself. Not sure how this has been allowed, but there it is.
I'm inclined to believe that there is an issue/ glitch where the valid " allowed" transaction, and the " disallowed due to location" transactions have been totalled, then doubled, and then fees added, and then well - known system hiccups regarding currency conversions have occurred to turn this transaction into a mess. It has happened elsewhere, so its not completely unusual, and not intentional.
If I were the OP - if I couldn't get this resolved through the usual channels - I would simply walk away with the understanding that it is broken and won't be fixed.
I am not sure what is happening on the seller's end,nor what communications have occurred between he and the OP, but I have done enough transactions to know that this person ( and others in the region in which he lives) is Not purposely looking to score thousands in free money from the OP. There is something missing here.
spark-chaser1
·3 years agoAnd I want to add one more thing after reading through this thread a third time:
I have also done business here with Jordanians, Lebanese, and other middle -easterners. And also- unlike the OP, again... have had completely the opposite experience. I've actually found such sellers to be helpful, generous and very good businesspeople despite language differences and geographic location. And at no time have I ever thought that they were maneuvering the system.
So, again... I have to wonder what is happening here, as it doesn't jive with what I've experienced - even remotely.
kathiec
·3 years ago@spark-chaser1
Thanks for the additional insight. I think too many times we fall into the trap of thinking the worst about the sellers people coming here complaining about. It's good to be reminded that there are always two sides.
spark-chaser1
·3 years agoI'm trying very hard to understand what is going on with this transaction. I am familiar with this seller and have had many great transactions with him.
He communicates clearly ( English), sends clear invoices, has promptly answered any and all questions I've had and shipped from Jordan to the US in record time. Everything is packed well and sent professionally.
This transaction is completely inconsistent with any experience I've had. I can only imagine that this transaction is an intersystem glitch- fest, given the odd feedback anomalies, possible currency- exchange errors and whatever more is happening here.
I'm sorry for what is happening to the OP, but it sounds by the comments as I understand them that repeated transaction issues appear to plague him/ her regularly, and that every other seller they do business with is a " scammer".
I hope this issue does get resolved, especially if it's a system error that could potentially affect all transactions happening between different countries and using different currencies. But I wanted to add my .02 cents to clarify that -at least in my own case- the seller is legitimate.

OP3 years agoI get the feeling, in this seller dominated forum, you are not being truthful. I get the gut feeling you are not telling the truth. If you're a frequent buyer, which you're not, what are chances you ever needed some Iraqi or Jordanian dinars? They are a sham. A pyramid scheme. What are you gonna do with a bunch of Iraqi dinars? It's a really bad "investment". If you're a seller, chances are you're not selling Iraqi Dinars. How do you know the seller? You bought from him as you claim? I seriously doubt that.
Regarding "every seller is a scammer", that was your statement, not mine, but yes, I like to vent about issues on forums, that's why it looks like every second post is about a problem. I like to solve problems and disclose dishonesty in business.
Finally, whom would you believe, a guy who wrote about his experiences or a guy who posted a bunch of screenshots with facts and visual proof of ebay **bleep** buyers.

OP3 years agoSpam and punch in the face is also automatic. Sorry, can't stop that. It's automatic! 🤣
The seller is honest. They just can't edit or cancel the invoice.
Ebay is innocent. They just can't control their own website.
When seller can't, ebay can't too.
Makes sense.
myangelandmyprincess
·3 years agoThe seller should be able to edit the invoice. But eBay can't and yes all the payment reminders are auto generated for every transaction.
banknotes_1
OP3 years agoTake a look how ebay is trying to swindle buyers. I don't care that some of you may say that this is AUTOMATIC or EBAY is INNOCENT, bla bla bla, but ebay allows this to happen, even after I reported the seller and asked BOTH: ebay and the seller to cancel or edit this "invoice", nothing happened. They continue sending me this absurd and I would say rip-offish or even fraudulent invoice, also doing it under threat of banning and blocking me from bidding. That's extortion.
And of course some ebay old timers will attack me and will try to defend ebay and even the seller, but the facts and step (not) taken by ebay and the seller speak otherwise.
Here's a screenshot of an email received just a few minutes ago where ebay REMINDS me to make payment now! And the second screenshot is the resulting page after I click on "PAY NOW" button in the ebay's reminder email with an absurd "invoice" already discussed earlier in this thread. Take a look how ebay encourages with a reminder how I should submit myself into becoming a victim of the con or be banned from bidding, perhaps even be banned from ebay:

·3 years agoThere are approximately 1.7 billion listings on eBay on any given day. EBay doesn't have the bandwidth to cross check every offer to make sure it's only going to countries where the seller ships. Plus many sellers will legitimately make an exception for a buyer in a country to which they normally don't ship. You just had the misfortune of running into a scammer.
No one is asking you to repeat yourself. We're eBay members just like you. There's nothing we can do beyond the advice you've been given. Read @mudshark61369 's post again and follow his instructions to reach out to the eBay reps on social media.
As for your question about accepting Iraqi dinars, that's a function of each financial institution. It's not something dictated by eBay.
banknotes_1
OP3 years ago"EBay doesn't have the bandwidth to cross check every offer to make sure it's only going to countries where the seller ships." - ebay this, ebay that, ebay is an angel, ebay is an exception, ebay can have double standards, etc. and with all the billions ebay makes they can't afford the bandwidth? Oh really? Is ebay a charity? That is not my problem. It is theirs. And when they do not take care of their buyers, they will go bust.

·3 years agoNo one is saying that eBay is perfect. But eBay can't anticipate every scam perpetrated on the platform. albertabrightalberta
·3 years agoIt looks like you made a "best offer" of $199 on a $210 item which the seller accepted.
The seller isn't allowed to add extra to the agreed amount.
If you go directly to the order page in your own ebay account, is there a "pay now" button that shows the correct amount of $199 with free shipping? If so, pay from there rather than from the ridiculous invoice from the seller.
banknotes_1
OP3 years agoIt's the other way around: the seller has sent me an offer of $199.99 and I accepted it, but then he made up an invoice for me with a fantastic rip off extra charge. All pay now buttons from anywhere on ebay or from my ebay account lead to that page (see the attached).
The seller keeps on sending me ow price offers but then once I accept them he creates this rip off invoice or asks $100 to $150 to ship each little lot separately. Even the $32 lot and the $199 lot he says I must pay $150 and $100 to ship separately. Those lots each weigh less than 100 grams each.
The seller refuses to correct/update the invoice. He probably naïvely thinks I am desperate and will pay his huge extra charge and some people probably do pay, although its not worth even paying $150 extra let alone over a thousand bucks.
myangelandmyprincess
·3 years agoWhen sellers send offers to interested buyers they don't know who the offer is going to. They don't see your id or location. Only when it's a counter offer to your offer so they see that.
It appears you accepted the offer on the second one after you already posted here with issues though?
banknotes_1
OP3 years agoWhy would ebay so foolishly allow sending offers by sellers to those countries whom they do not ship to.
The seller is an idiot. He says he can not send Iraqi dinars to Europe, but then he does all the contradicting things at once. See me earlier posts. I won't repeat myself.
It's not just that seller. I tried dealing with Jordanians and the Lebanese sellers before. They seem all to be like that - impossible to deal with. And ebay interface is junk as well.
Is it true that ebay does not allow mailing Iraqi dinars to Europe? Who can confirm this?
albertabrightalberta
·3 years agoI send offers to potential buyers frequently. If the buyer accepts my offer and choose to buy, they get an automatic invoice through that order with the shipping charge as shown in the listing.
Although I'm able to send an invoice to an accepted offer, the default invoice shows shipping as shown in the listing though there have been times I've made a credit adjustment to charge a lower shipping price. I'd NEVER increase the fee!
ETA: AFAIK, offers won't be sent to buyers who don't meet my preferences. There have been some offers I've tried to send and get an error message that an offer can't be sent to some buyers. I assume they don't meet my criteria, either for UID or in countries to which I don't ship.
banknotes_1
OP3 years agoThis seller needs his head checked, since he states and does three contradicting things at once:
1. He says he does not ship to Portugal or to Europe
2. He says he will (!) ship to Portugal if I pay $150 and then $100 per each lot separately (rip off) that weighs just a few grams!
3. He keeps on sending me new offers of Iraqi and Jordanian Dinars despite the doing the above. He just sent me another two low price offers. Clearly a scammer and a game player.
And yes, moderator, ebayers have to be warned about this guy, in order to avoid their time wasted by this seller. If this seller wants to protect himself and defend himself, he should stop playing games and trying to rip people off and to come here and defend himself. Of course, I don't have to pay, or do I? Because ebay now says if I don't pay those rip off charges they will ban or block me from bidding. How deceitful and stupid this ebay's and the seller's behaviour is?
Of course, ebay will cancel these offers and deals that I got stuck with, but then they say they will ban me from bidding.
I will keep you updated what ebay will do once the seller was reported to ebay and I requested to have all these "NOT PAID" records removed from my account. So far ebay support has replied that they are unable to remove NOT PAID items record from my account. All they adviced so far "for the future" that I should stay away from sellers who do not specify shipping charges in their listings.

·3 years ago@banknotes_1,
You are located in Portugal, and your home site is probably ebay Spain (http://www.ebay.com.es)
If it is you should probably login to that site's community and post your issue on it. This is the US. based site's (ebay.com) community.
This issue is not one ebay's customer service reps, who are often not ebay employees can deal with.
I suggest if you can, that you contact ebay through their Facebook or Twitter social media accounts. (links below) The reps who help people on those sites are ebay employees and have the ability to remove unpaid item strikes. They may even sanction the seller.
You will need to to have the seller's username and the ebay item number. Explain what happened: "The seller agreed to ship to my country, but then added an unannounced "seller extra charge of $1,381.99 Which I would not pay, so I now have an unpaid item strike on my account that is keeping me from buying from other sellers". Then add the screen shots of the invoice you received. Ask them to remove the strike. give them your real name and ebay username.

OP3 years agoThis case is very complicated. It's not a typo. Although my English is quite limited I will do my best to explain it. The seller and the ebay do not want to address it properly neither they care to even read my case in its entirety. I have wasted too much time on it and I can tell you - ebay support does not care even that they write politely that they care, but the actions are better than words. And ebay's actions show they do not care. All they care is to have me pay the huge amount without any safety or protection for me. The problem (for ebay) is that the huge overcharge amount is attached to one lot that was offered to me for $199.99 ($10 discount) by a solicitation from ebay, which I did not ask. I simply visited that item's listing and did not bid on it. Soon after ebay sent me an offer of $10 less. Then I contacted the seller and asked whether they would be able to ship the other lot (valued at $999) via FedEx or UPS. They replied they will, for extra $30. When I said yes, they sent me this "invoice" by only listing the $199.99 lot in it but trying to charge me over $1300 where they failed to include (show) the $999 lot into the invoice. In addition to that the seller added $150 for UPS shipping (instead of $30). And ebay seems to not want to address this issue. Ebay only is interested to make sure I am not blocked from bidding on ebay further if I don't pay $1300+ for a lot that is valued at $199. They want me to pay $1300+ for an invoice which only shows one lot valued at $199 and to hope the seller also includes the lot valued for $999 which is not shown in the invoice. Also the $150 for UPS I disagree with, so I don't even want to do any business with the seller, but the invoice was created in such as tricky way that it says I must pay it or risk to have my ebay account suspended. This is what ebay and their fraudulent sellers do. No wonder ebay has been abandoned by honest sellers and buyers.
It's not the first time ebay pulled tricks on me where sellers said they will ship to my country, but then when I COMMITTED TO BUY they refused to ship and ebay refused to resolve. This is why I became blocked from bidding on ebay and I really don't care to anymore.
Here's a screenshot (I can not post it since moderator advised to not) where before I committed to buy I was shown a 160 count 100% positive feedback of the seller. Once I committed to buy on ebay, just minutes later ebay started showing me the same seller's feedback as 99,6% positive with over 230 feedbacks. This is the trickstery and manipulation done by ebay that you may not be aware of.
All these issues ebay support even ignores when I write to them about. All they reply is about how t avoid being blocked on ebay and how important that I paid over $1300 for the invoice that has a single lot valued at $199... This is long story short. This is why my account registered back in 1998 only has under 200 (all positive) buyers feedback. In 25 years only 190 something, because I have been tricked and abused by ebay o multiple occasions, and one of them was stealing my copyrighted domain name and using it in ebay's own advertising campaign at the top bar on ebay.com.
After the seller quoted me $30 extra for UPS delivery and I committed to buy he changed his tune and asked for $150 extra to ship just 100 grams of paper items to my country and then created a wonder invoice for me which you already saw. This is one of those manipulations and tricks b ebay that you may have never experienced before.

·3 years agoPlease do not pay! Call Ebay- yes you can talk with someone. You are being charged an additional cost that was not displayed before you committed to buy. That falls under deception of the seller.
Just tell the Seller you do not accept those terms as it was not described in the listing that you must pay such high additional Costs.
That is a Not as Described listing with Ebay and that protects You!
So tell Ebay this is a not as described transaction where additional fees were added and not listed in the arite up.
You will not get a Negative if you talk in person to someone on Ebay. Not the chat -talk with a real person and even ask for a supervisor if the original customer service person will not help.

OP3 years agoThe way ebay does "business" a lot now is they send you an offer you "can't refuse" (just because you visited and browsed the listing without even adding it to your cart or your watch list)) and if you're not careful you will miss to notice that there's no shipping quote or that the seller "does not ship to your country"! Then when you ACCEPT the offer, they hit you with a huge invoice just like mine and with a huge unreasonable shipping charge and you're stuck unless you want to be banned from ebay bidding! And I do not do business with such shady companies and individuals.

·3 years agoSending offers is a setting that sellers set. The seller in this case did appear to have free international shipping it says worldwide. So I'm not sure why it would have said they don't ship to you? The seller is the one who has messed up here. eBay didn't do any of this. One thing that should be done by eBay is if you don't pay they should be able to remove the unpaid item.

·3 years ago@banknotes_1
I looked at the listing in question, but don't see mention of any additional fees. That is one heck of a "handling charge" at any rate. If you find out what is going on with this, please post back.
It may just be a "typo" or currency translated to USD$ instead of the local currency sort of thing.
If you cannot get this settled with the seller, or cannot get it settled with eBay by "reporting the seller" for asking for additional money should that be the case, and do not pay....it will only affect you if you have more than one unpaid issue in a 12 month period. You could also ask to have the unpaid strike removed because of the circumstances.
Good luck, and let us know how it turns out.
banknotes_1
OP3 years agoP.S. I was unable to edit it due to the very short edit time limit so here we go:
SELLER EXTRA CHARGES: US $ 1,182.00 (above the "CONFIRM AND PAY" button)
EXTRA CHARGE FROM SELLER: US $1,182.00 (at the very bottom, under the image of the banknote and the word "FREE")
Can't you see the TWO (not just one!) of those lines in the screenshot I posted in my OP? I understand why you could not see them. It's when people think ebay can do no wrong they just don't see the wrong in any way or form even if it is right into their face my friend.
If you still can't see those, I can mark them in red and reattach. Just think "ebay CAN do wrong" and you will begin to see them right away.
What it turns out the $1182 includes is the $999 for some reason rounded by the seller as $1000 and the $32 for UPS shipping and then another uncalled $150 as an extra charge because HE CAN. I am not buying it, but ebay has tricked me into agreeing to "MUST PAY" (COMMIT TO BUY) or BE BLOCKED/SUSPENDED. I guess I will choose to be suspended rather than risk losing over $1K for nothing. The seller is unwilling to fix it as he says don't worry it's all good and is probably their way of making a lot of money. The trick is to NOT offer any shipping to most developed countries and offer low prices without mentioning shipping costs. When a buyer approaches being unable to pay for the items because, ebay states "Seller has chosen not to ship to your country. Please update your address". Ebay sellers have tried to pull this scheme on me on multiple occasions. It's a scam, I believe, a well thought out scam. This is why I will not buy anything on fleabay.
banknotes_1
OP3 years agoHere's part of the alleged scam by ebay (screenshot attached, same seller). 100% positive feedback (160) is shown to the prospective buyer. Once I committed to buy, within seconds, suddenly the seller's feedback became 99,6% (235). This can't be possible within a minute so that a seller with a tiny 160 feedback suddenly received 75 feedbacks within a few seconds. And the same listing of the identical lot had a price of $999 but on his cellphone he showed me a screenshot where the price is $999 and a shipping charge quoted as $150. Gladly I documented everything, text and screenshots.

·3 years ago@banknotes_1 If it was me I would not pay.
Not sure whos showing you what on a cell phone. The scam is with the seller not eBay.
The seller sent you an invoice and it appears that the seller added extras for you to pay.
You can request the seller to cancel the sale. The seller doesnt have to do this.
You can leave negative FB that the seller tried to double the price by adding extra charges to the invoice.
You can report the seller to eBay.
You can just not pay and if you only have 1 unpaid item it will do nothing to you.
Or you can pay.
