Selling used car on ebay scam
Beware Scam Alert!!!!!
Email I received after contacting owner on the used car classified ad!
As I told you in my first email, about the tragedy with my husband. I moved recently with my daughter for a fresh start in Lincoln, NE. The car is already at eBay in Lincoln, along with all the paperwork and the transaction will be done through them. eBay will handle the shipping and the paper exchange. It will be delivered to your address within 2 days, free shipping and 5 days to test-drive and inspection. If you are interested, please reply with a complete name, a delivery address and a phone number. I will send your information to eBay and they will contact you with all information.
Thank you!
My response was: I found a better deal. Sorry and hope you get everything that's coming your way!
Her response was:
I am a 57 year old woman. We are all college educated. I really don't have time for jokes. I want to take this opportunity to assure you that there is nothing to be worried about in this deal. I have a reputation to protect and I am a good Christian. You have my word and good faith on the fact that I'll keep my end of the bargain. I will not risk my career, my freedom and my future for anything in the world! If you decide not to go through with it there is no problem. Please get back to me and let me know what you decide. Thank you for your time and interest. Whatever you decide, I wish you good luck. Thank you!
My response was:
Hello Deanna, I too am a Christian and educated. I too am a widow and i am 63. I didn't realize you were so far away. I have been scammed a few times recently so you can understand my concern. Why can't you sell your beautiful car where you are? I don't trust this process. I'm sure you can find an easier way to get your car sold. I was hoping that this was not a scam. I Will back out so you can move on with getting your car sold. Good bless you in your life. It is hard to go through life without the support of your husband. Take my word for it.
Take care.
Total scam!!!!!

·1 year agoWhen you commented that you found a better deal, that should have been it for the scammer. Here is the part that goes with the scam, it's always a zappy story, price way to good to be true, item found on one marketplace, but being handled by another marketplace. The "It will be delivered to your address within 2 days, free shipping and 5 days to test-drive and inspection." have you looked at how much it cost to ship a car across town, let alone 5 day test drive and then ship back if you do not like it, it cost money. It's all a scam to make you feel comfortable with your purchase and get you disoriented. glad you didn't fell for it.

·1 year agoYou are so much nicer to scammers than I am. If I know I'm being scammed (I'm over 70 so attract them like flies, especially on the phone) and have some spare time I usually string them along until either they or myself can't take it anymore.
It's so satisfying to know I wasted as much of their time as possible while entertaining myself at the same time. I would have just had to go along and pretend to make payment, then insist I did as they requested etc.
So satisfying to hear or read F U when they finally figure out what I'm doing ! LOL Lol lol.

·1 year agoI'm so glad to find out someone besides me does that! I usually pull out my hard-of-hearing 96-year-old alter ego for those calls. Back when the "there's an issue with your Windows" calls were popular I kept a scammer on hold for close to 10 minutes while I ostensibly searched for the "laptop my great grandchildren were playing with". Then I took a few more minutes trying to find the Windows key on the keyboard before finally asking "does it matter that this is a MacBook?" That turned out to be about 15 minutes he wasn't scamming someone else.

·1 year agoThe first tipoff it's a SCAM is when they include information that has nothing to do with the sale. " about the tragedy with my husband. " Yes another dead husband. It's like there is a death curse around here.
eBay does not handle or ship merchandise " at eBay in Lincoln, " Another lie.
Free shipping for an auto, that would cost about 2000.00 " . It will be delivered to your address within 2 days, free shipping " more lies.
" I am a good Christian " What, they left out being deployed in the military? Rich enough to rot your teeth!

Congrats on not falling for the scam. It's soooooo common and sadly, many buyers do fall for it and lose their money.

OP1 year agoI saw the ad on Utahs #1 newspaper classified. The car has now been removed. I have bought several things from this classified site. I know it is reputable but dang, they can suck you in. I haven't reported it to Ebay but i will use the link from above so Thank you for that! Much love to you all!

·1 year agoYou would have to report it to the newspaper but it looks like it already was. It's best to avoid purchases from dead husbands anyway. Might be haunted. If you think removing the smell of smoking from a car it hard, just try removing an attached ghost.
Got to watch those ads.

·1 year agoDoesnt do much good to report it to Ebay, they have nothing to do with these scam ads on other sites. This is a billion dollar a year, worldwide scam, glad you didnt fall for it.

·1 year agoThe architecture of this scam is almost as old as ebay itself... fortunately, you didin't fall for it. If we tried to pull up all the posts from people who did, I think it would crash the site.

·1 year agoIt's not the site that's disreputable. It's some sellers who post on sites. It's just like ebay or any other site; the sites do what they can but dishonest scammers attempt to rip people off on those sites. Eventually, they do get caught but sadly, it's often after unknowing victims lose money.

·1 year agoTHE LISTING WAS NOT LISTED ON EBAY. YOU CAN'T ALL IT A SCAM ON EBAY.
QUIT SAYING IT WAS A EBAY SCAM.

·1 year agoWhat website did you contact when looking for a vehicle? Sounds like something that would happen on Craigslist. If this was an EBAY seller you should definitely report this.
wastingtime101
·1 year agoAny vehicle advertised on another marketplace that says eBay will contact you to handle the sale is a scam; eBay does not warehouse or ship vehicles. eBay transactions take place on eBay, not off site and not through email.
There is no vehicle (just stolen photos) and the scammer is likely overseas. If you send them money or gift card codes there will be no way to retrieve those funds. When the price looks too good to be true, it usually is.
Here's eBay's page about recognizing and avoiding vehicle scams: https://pages.motors.ebay.com/buy/security/
Report the listing to the venue where you found the fraudulent ad using these links: Facebook Marketplace | Craigslist | OfferUp | Nextdoor
If you received any emails that pretend to be from eBay Motors, forward them to spoof@ebay.com
You can report the scammer to the email provider they used such as Google (Gmail), Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.

·1 year agocorrect, total scam.
posted here thousands of times.
good that you were aware that it was a scam, and not associated with eBay.
Many fall for "the great deal"
hopefully you reported it on the site where you found it to possibly help someone that is not as aware as you are
