Sellers canceling auction orders won because item sold to cheap.
Had 3 separate sellers cancel auction orders won and state the buyers requested a cancellation/refund. I think this is highly shady business they have reserves for a reason. Also think you should be able to leave feedback that the sellers is doing this but can’t leave feedback once it’s canceled evidently. How do I report this and does the buyer have any chance to not accept a refund or cancellation and get the item?

Perhaps eBay may one day increase the penalties ?

·8 months agoI agree I've had items I won canceled because the seller said it didn't sell for high enough. Just looking at the items I knew I could have sold them for a much higher amount so it felt like they took money from me.

·8 months agoA seller didn't even ask if still wanted the item because was damaged. (The damaged described was ones that occur from general use. In fact more then likely had them when received/bought.)
They just refunded the money. I would have taken no matter what. I required it for my collection.

The first reply by @stainlessenginecovers , came close but left out some information.
I'd say you ran into this because the auctions you bid on were listed by new or inexperienced sellers. And depending on how long it took them to cancel the auctions, you might be able to tell the difference. Many if not most new sellers do not know about the 30 hold placed on their first few payments. On their account the payment status shows Pending, so they don't think the funds are there. Those sellers probably wait several days before cancelling. The inexperienced ones probably cancelled the wins quickly.
Either kind of seller was likely to have read abay's info on how auctions work and the first things in the Pricing Tips: article is "A low starting price can help attract bidders" New or inexperienced sellers tend to take that suggestion, which is very poor advice. More experienced sellers will set an auction's starting bid price as the lowest one they would be willing to accept if there is only one bid.
As for setting a reserve price There is a fee charged by ebay to do that. The Fee in most categories is $5.00 or 7.5% of the set reserve price up to $250 maximum, and it is charged whether or not the item sells.
You can avoid the problem by Checking each seller's feedback profile page before bidding on or buying from one. A new seller could have a fair number of feedback and even a 100% rating, but they could all be for buying not selling. A seller not experienced using the auction format, could have also have a fair number of feedback and a 100% rating, but all of their previous sales were Buy It Now listings.
If you do not know how to check a seller's classic view profile page follow the instructions below.
On an item's listing page in the upper right under the seller's username and feedback number you will see 3 buttons
Clicking on their percentage of positives is one way to get to their profile the other is further down the listing page where you see the seller's username in a large font. Under it will be a few comments, and under that a ( See All Feedback) button. Click on it. On the page that opens you will see the following line above some comments.
Click on the Switch back to classic view button. In the upper left is the seller's country or registry, and below that is a box with the number's of neutral and negative feedback a seller has received. those numbers can be clicked on to read only those comments and the seller's replies if any. Under the box are buttons to see All feedback, As a buyer / Seller /Left for others. You want to see their selling feedback, because a seller can have a fair number of feedback and even a 100% rating but all for buying at least in the last year. Sellers who have no selling feedback or have received none in over a year often run into problems so you should avoid buying from them, until you have more experience.
When you click on the As a seller button just above the first comments on the right is a box w/ [Most Relevant v ] click on that to see their [Most Recent] feedback.
"How do I report this and does the buyer have any chance to not accept a refund or cancellation and get the item?"
You can use the report links that have been posted and when you get to the Text box write; The seller used an invalid reason for cancelling the sale, Check my messages I did not request cancellation of it.
All you can get is a refund, not the item.

·8 months agoIt's bad practice for sellers to cancel because the price was too low. They should simply ask for more to begin with.
But at the same time, it's clear OP is fishing for items that are intentionally underpriced, so as they say on reddit, "ESH"

·8 months agoThere is two reasons for intentionally underpriced item..1. Luck of knowledge by seller..2. To create bidding war that may end up with overpriced sale and, most likely, non paying buyer…

You replied to stainlessenginecovers writing:
"Well, this is up to sellers to do their homework about auctioned item worth…there is a good deals out there and more often than you think..new vs. seasoned seller is completely irrelevant if sellers have no idea what they selling"
If you read my reply to the OP you might learn why so many new/inexperienced sellers start auctions with very low starting bids.
And to Kibble_net:
"There is two reasons for intentionally underpriced item..
1. Luck of knowledge by seller..
2. To create bidding war that may end up with overpriced sale and, most likely, non paying buyer…".
1) Lack of knowledge about an item isn't uncommon but the advice ebay gives doesn't help either. Nor does their removal of the suggestion to do an Advanced search of sold items to check the selling prices of the same or similar items.
2) Some auction sellers will start an item they know will get a very high price with a low opening bid. I've done that quite often and haven't had a non payer, because usually the winners do not get into bidding wars, they snipe near the end of the auction, and do pay if they win.

·8 months agoI wouldn't do it but some sellers do and it is not right. If you won some silver bullion, while I think the seller should deliver, I understand why they might refuse to lose $$$ in this accelerated market. Its best to not let it get to you, speaking from personal experience...there are other bargains to be had.

·8 months agoYes, as others have stated here, you should report the seller(s) every time. I wouldn't dwell on it too much, though. Learn from it and take the necessary steps to possibly avoid it in the future. I wish you luck!

·8 months agoDo you mind saying what types of items you had canceled? It seems having 3 recent cancellations because of a low price is out of the ordinary.

·9 months agoWhat is the feedback number for these sellers? (in the parenthesis).
Many new sellers have no clue how auctions or ebay works.
But, you can stop this by not bidding on items that you KNOW are well below their value with a 'low feedback' (usually new) ebay seller. j
If you had 4, you are obviously trying to buy things for pennies on the dollar. Fun to try, but usually a fail.

·9 months ago"you are obviously trying to buy things for pennies on the dollar. Fun to try, but usually a fail. "
I wouldn't say usually. I've scored some pennies on the dollar deals. I usually stumble onto them mislisted for auction or the seller doesn't know the value on a BIN.
Just scored one the other day. A vintage knife easily worth $100.00+ for a little under $25.00 w/shipping. The seller misspelled the brand name in the title and I assume any other interested buyers probably missed it for that reason when searching. That's not even my best score by any means.
I purposefully search for vintage items by misspelling the brand names for just this reason. I've only had one not ship (that I can remember anyway) in the last year or so.
It depends on how one goes about trying to buy items for pennies on the dollar.

·9 months agothey have reserves for a reason
The reserve price feature is incredibly expensive. That aside, There is no excuse for not putting your reserve price as your starting price.
does the buyer have any chance to not accept a refund or cancellation and get the item?
No, because eBay does not have a goon squad that travels to a seller's location and forces them to ship an item.

·9 months agoSorry but you cannot force the Seller to give you this item. Only thing you can do is report the Seller.
mamacassidy
·9 months agoAs stated above, you should definitely report all 3 of those sellers. Be sure to write out clearly and concisely that you did not request a cancellation of the transaction.
As far as your other question goes, no, ebay has no way to force these sellers to send you the items you won.
slippinjimmy
·9 months agoYes you should report this seller, don't worry about the feedback as it doesn't really accomplish anything.
You can report from this page:
https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/resolving-issues-sellers/report-issue-seller?id=4022
Scroll down past the first two blue button as they are for reporting different issues. The blue button down the page it the correct reporting for this type of issue.
While I am not a fan of reporting (buyers or sellers) this is one thing that I encourage reporting as these sellers actions have a negative effect on all eBay buyers or sellers.
